k.Loved it there. Great gardens which are wonderfully laid out. The kitchen/cafe is closed Tuesday and Wednesday so that will be next time. But the gift shops were really WOW. Could have spent a good couple of hours going through the three of them. There is some really great items there from kitchen to garden to gifts to religious. Thank you for the chance to do this.
I.Fabulous tour of the castle, just amazing. Then a delicious late lunch at the Riverstone Kitchen, OMG just yummy, generous portions, pleasant cheerful staff, Ostler Rise to go with it. Highly recommended place to dine.
T.A great place. Grow veggies for the nice restaurant, although the restaurant was shut when I was there so cannot comment on the food but it looked really good inside as I snapped a pic through the window. Great big playground with a difference, for the kids,they will love the play ground. Some nice gardens to look around as well. The shops are packed with stock of all sorts. I liked it so it got 5 stars. Will recommend this place.

C.Wasn't sure if it would be my thing....but it was absolutely amazingly wonderful. Dot is such a lovely lady who is so down to earth and great to chat to.
The castle is unbelievably beautiful and totally warm and welcoming. Will definitely be back. Great value for money and a special memory to treasure.
K.Fabulous place an absolute must stop and do a tour if they are operating or plan your trip around it. We just happened to be in the right place at the right time, not a tour day but the lovely housekeeper went out of her way to show another couple through and we were able to join in. Heaps of gift shopping and a fabulous restaurant. We ended up there for about 2 hours plus.
S.I was transported somewhere amazing and beautiful with a sensory overload that I haven't felt for a long time. I understand why Dot wouldn't want to be opening the doors publicly to have us all walk through her home. So glad she does though. Amazing lady.

a.Stopped to check it out,was awesome, didn't go inside though as I had long drive to do,but according to locals it's surely stunning to see inside,booked tours are recommended

s.Beautiful Castle located next to the Riverstone kitchen. The owner spent 20 years designing the build and a few more years again for the actual build.

A welcome stop and they do have interesting gift shop. Unfortunately during our visit the cafe was closed. Was looking forward to sample the fresh disches there.

I'm absolutely over the moon with how we have such lovely owners who have created and shared this beautiful place.
H.You don't find many castles in New Zealand but just north of Oamaru is Riverstone Castle. Impressive from the outside, I unfortunately did not get the chance to look inside (although I understand this can be arranged). Along with the castle, Riverstone village has some cool shops full of nic nacs and all sorts of bric a brac. There is even a castle themed playground which is great for the kids. Finally there are some lovely gardens and birdlife to enjoy. Definitely worth diverting off SH1 for a look.
C.An amazing modern castle and the Riverstone Queen is a wonderful hostess with great stories. Need to follow them on Facebook as there are only limited dates for tours.

A.It was my first time there and I enjoyed it. I didn't do the castle tour but did take the time to take a walk around the few stalls that were there. They have a wide range of nic nacs as well as Christmas gifts and ordoments. If you are heading to or heading out of Oamaru I recommend you take the time to take a look.

R.I really enjoyed visiting Riverstone Castle. It is huge, built to current high standards, and is a monument to the determination and enthusiasm of Queen Dot and King Neil. Their thoroughness and attention to detail is amazing, and anyone owning a historic castle, palace etc. would be totally envious of the heated floors, ensuites and home comforts, and would want them in their "old pile". Definitely worth a visit.

S.Cool castle with what looks like a moat. Many birds swimming, didn’t go inside, didn’t inquire about the possibility to enter the castle as this was just a short stop. Interesting little shops and mini western town with things to look at. Biggest nik nak store I’ve seen in a while there, very pricy items but they are all interesting..

G.It's a lovely place to take the kids for a stroll through the gardens. The play area is great fun for all ages. The castle was not accessible on the day we went, but it's great to take photos with a castle as your back drop. The cafe was very busy as tables were all booked out. It needs a dedicated area for people who just wants to grab a coffee to go and walk. Love it.

K.Lovely place indeed. Their is a few shops to look at and they are full of trinkets suited for everyone. The cafe was quiet popular so I would suggest booking ahead to secure a table! Their is a children's playground and it is suitable for most ages and plenty to play on. The castle was an amazing master piece. So much detail was put into it. All the rooms had their own story to tell and it was hard to pick a favourite. It is definitely worth doing to have a look.

C.Lovely staff, happy to answer queries, on my last visit, about the gardens and some of their striking specimen plantings. I have been here before and always enjoyed the huge range of Christmas decorations and gifts available here
C.The inimitable Dot Smith has built something special here. Keep this maverick in your prayers as bureaucracy makes her jump through ridiculous hoops and insists she tears down part of North Otago's most singular development. At the restaurant on site (Riverstone Kitchen) I had the best dish (lamb shoulder gnocchi) I've ever ordered in New Zealand. Popular for good reason and loved by all the best people.

J.Can only enter as part of a garden tour but gardens before hand are beautiful to.go thru. Little art and craft shops are mind blowing. Spent unintentional hours there husband and all. Didn't stay for food as little restaurant was too busy.clean rest rooms.

Staff friendly even on the busiest day
a.Quaint kitchen located next to a castle. The squid is fabulous, must-try dish. Staff were very helpful, friendly & professional. Highly recommended to drop by if you're passing through.
J.Dot's castle tour was worth it. The most delightful furnishings, Chandeliers, Curtains, special rooms and of course te Dungeon. Although a little overdone for most, that's Dot! So enthusiastic about her castle.

I.Amazing place - feels like a fantasy. Some work needs to be done to make it a little more interconnected, as there is a lot happening. Also sad that there is no table service outside, producing a lot of unnecessary waste.
