Proper chocolates, and taste really good. The Argentinian lady behind the counter was really friendly and you could tell she was really into her craft. I seen others complain about the service, but she explained why she must finish a certain part of her process before leaving. Not sure why people wouldn’t have the cop on to realise this anyways.. The hot chocolate was the best I’ve had. Yes the chocolate is hand made, so no it’s not cheap. Therefore the place isn’t meant for cheap people, there is a dairy shop across the street if you want to spend $2 on ‘chocolate’. For anyone that realises that this is a proper authentic handmade chocolate shop, I can’t recommend it enough 👍🏻👍🏻

AMAZING coffee and chocolate TO DIE FOR (or from lol). I understand the negative reviews, these are clearly from people who don't appreciate the absolutely superb quality of their handmade products. People claiming that $11 is expensive for a coffee and HANDMADE chocolate have absolutely no idea about earning a living in a business and perhaps they should get behind the counter and try doing it because they obviously have no appreciation of what goes into these products. We spent a couple of hundred dollars there during our visit in November 2018 on the beautifully presented gift boxes which our friends and family adored when we got home. My partner and I will always remember this jewel in the crown of the village named Russell. Perhaps we'll get the opportunity to visit again one day. This is the sort of place that Rick Stein should visit if he's ever in town. 10 out of 10 Newport Chocolates, your heart and soul goes into your work and we appreciated it and will always remember it fondly.

The signature hot chocolate is very nice. However customer service could be improved, the staff kept talking to each other and didn’t respond much while serving the customers.

Leonora is the sweetest person you will ever meet - sweeter than her delicious chocolates! I’m writing this review a year after meeting her because the last thing she said to me as I left her shop was that on her bad days, she would think of me. Here I am on a bad day, and I think of her - and I smile. Delicious chocolates, the kindest owner you will ever meet, and the greatest stories you can exchange. Had the iced chocolate drink and it was amazing a true chocolate lovers dream. The owner was warm and friendly. She hand makes all the chocolates herself which again taste beautiful. Highly recommend for any chocolate enthusiasts. Support local support independent.

Have visited this store on a number of occasions over the last few years and always make sure we call in to the shop. The chocolate is superb, the coffee and chocolate drinks to die for - 10 out of 10. I have always found Leonora friendly and accommodating. Those that left without tasting missed a real treat that is worth waiting for. Personally, I dont mind paying the little extra for really good quality as it is a special treat.

We discovered this shop a few years ago now, and always go back when we are in Paihia. It's worth the trip over to Russell. The chocolate is some of the best I have ever tasted. Plus there is a wonderful selection. The chocolates are of high quality and the prices reflect that. It's a special treat. I have read most of the reviews. It is sad to see the ones that are so critical, as I have always found the owners, especially Leonora to be welcoming and helpful, and if not busy, a great conversationalist. I recommend this place to everyone. Leonora, remember the photos. Also remember those clients who over time have become friends.

I went in for a hot chocolate and one piece special but once my Dad got in the store and got a whiff he sprang for a box of dozen. The chocolates are not overly decadent with sugar but creamy and rich with roasted nutty flavors. As I'm writing this on the ferry ten minutes out of the shop back to Paihia, the box of twelve are all but gone. Ask about the chocolates. The chocolatier lady is obviously passionate about her babies and will go to great lengths explaining them.

Newport chocolates are without any doubt the best you can possibly buy in NZ. The manufacturers use only first class ingredients and - compared to others - know what they are doing because they have heaps of experience and knowledge. Having said this: You always get what you pay for - like in this case where quality and workmanship reflect the price. And the owners are absolutely right when they claim that well explained and clearly stated (in writing) conditions of purchase don't require further comments. Exactly: You cannot order just one oyster when the menu offers only the options of one dozen or a half. Everyone who doesn't understand this has either got an IQ of less than 60 (mentally retarded) or lives in a dream world.

Service was okay, the iced chocolate looked very good, but the price for it seemed really high considering what i got. It didn't even come in a glass just in a plastic cup eventhough I sat at the Cafe. In it was a mixture of what seemed like decent chocolate milk and crushed ice cubes. Not the sort of quality I would expect from a store that specializes in chocolate.

The service here is wonderful, the hot chocolate is delicious and the chocolates are divine. Pricey, but these chocolates are not something you just shove into your mouth, these are chocolates you savour. Definitely worth a visit

Go here if you want to taste best NZ's hot chocolate. Their handcrafted chocolates and specially the orange peel are to die for. For those that say is overpriced, you can't compare with a cheap quality chocolate from the supermarket.
