The first time we stayed at Designer Cottage we choose it for its location. We have now returned three times due to its quiet location, warmth,cleanliness and the hospitality of Chet and Steve. We have appreciated their attention to detail. The little things that mean such a lot when away from home, such as having the heater turned on for us so that we returned at night to a warm room. We enjoyed the chats over breakfast and being introduced to New Zealand Lemon and Lime Marmalade! Many thanks Chet and Steve, we love staying in your B & B and will return. Another beautiful sunset at this lovely Christchurch bed and breakfast. Some might think it might be too old for them, but to me they are just prefect cottages to feel home away from home.

Chet and Steve were so welcoming. The room was the perfect size for us and very comfortable. Breakfast was also a nice surprise with some variety as well as meeting other travellers.

Wow, what a find of a place. Chet was very friendly and welcoming when we arrived for our three night stay. When he showed us the cottage, he pointed out that it was a communal kitchen and help ourselves as required. In the breakfast room out in the garden, Chet sat us down with a local map and advised us the best and worst places to eat and how to get there. He gave one guest his own Metro card to help him out with local transport. The next morning we went to breakfast expecting a help yourself style breakfast, Chet was there and served up the cereals, toast, croissants, tea, coffee etc. Chet was good enough to show us round the cottage adjacent to the one we were staying which is meant for a family. As both properties are over 100 years old, he has kept the cottages as authentic as possible. Wow loved the older style furniture, boiler in the additional cottage. But for me seeing the copper WC was really quite cool. Considering the age of the main cottage, our room with the en suite felt very cosy. It had the mod cons including an electric blanket, SMART TV, electronic door lock. Housekeeping was done everyday including renewing the towels etc. To us, it has history, style and character behind it, and a host that cares about the guests and his business that often lacks in the concrete boxes for rooms in modern hotels. Chet is a great host, we have already recommended to others that this is the place to stay when in Christchurch.

Stayed here with friends this month (January 2016). The rooms are comfortable and spacious. The hosts, Chet and Steve, are really what make this place great. Always friendly and accommodating, gave us maps and recommended places to visit and were happy to talk about the city. Given their hospitality, I would highly recommend staying here.

Very homely place and very friendly owner who is waiting always for an opportunity to help you in 5*+ service. Clean rooms. Family place, solo travelers , some open areas are there to chill with a cofee or drink..open areas are surrounded by fruit bearing trees.. good break fast also..
