Reviews of Wrights Water Gardens
D.
So glad we made the effort to go. A great day. Lovely coffee and gorgeous magic and raspberry slice. Very safe with contact less procedures. Sat outside.ĺovely to see kids and dogs interacting with the chooks. The gardens were a treat. Surreal photos of lotus flowers and waterlillies. A key is available for those with disability to get close otherwise steps and uneven ground would be a challenge.
Thanks for caring about the gardens
S.
What a fabulous place. Cafe has dining in or outside casual under the trees and umbrellas plus a seperate child friendly area with playground. Menu has breakfast and lunch meals with full range of hot and cold delicious drinks and good range of alcohol plus a cabinet selection of cakes and homemade fudge
The waterlily gardens are amazing, walkways meandering through lots of native and exotic plantings with a waterfall and lots of ponds and sculptures. Highly recommended
M.
Although it's a little run down, it's still a great walk with a very good cafe at the start or finish.
Take your time, there are little gems hidden all over the place and it pays to keep your eyes open.
There are plenty of places to sit and contemplate plus kids will like running around all the paths and gardens but keep an eye on them because water is dangerous stuff.
p.
Absolutely amazing garden,as a photographer i need all day to spend there,to be able to photograph everything,i love the waterfall and those massive rocks that giving me fantastic framing,,,those flowers, lakes is just AMAZING...Only 30 minutes from Manukau for enjoying that beautiful landscaping idea...
b.
Its nice, creative and fall is beautiful ,but they need to maintain this place a bit well to attract more people, I enjoyed calm and beautiful water gardens with my wife here .Its one time go !
J.
Wright's Water Garden has so much to offer! 🥰
The waterfall is spectacular! You can hear it whispering when you enter. There various walkways. One leads to the top, where you can see the waterfall from the top, and also walkways to view from the bottom. As you get closer, the roar gets louder.
There are chooks 🐥, alpacas 🦙, and a play area for the kids. The garden is definitely not pushchair friendly
They have a lovely cafe on site which usually makes amazing breakfasts and lunches, but now cater for take away coffee ☕ cakes, and slices. There are many benches to sit on and enjoy it 🍰
There are many statues to admire, and some to ponder. The flowers and plants are beautiful! 🌴🌸🌺
The only thing of putting is that nobody (including us) understood the map 🗺 and many people ambled about aimlessly, and, like us, had to back track. 🚶♀️ There are also no clear signage. It does allow you to explore more, but it can be very tiring as there are steep hills, and many stairs
P.
Nice little garden with different colours of flowers. Had a beautiful sight of the
waterfalls in the midst of the garden. Overall experience was good.
H.
Best WEDGES ever, simple but done right 🤤🤤.Pizza with homemade base 😉😊
Caramel loaded shake daughter loved it, as Pic shows.
Lovely place great atmosphere, gardens will definitely be back cheers.
S.
Really beautiful gardens and yummy food. Surprised I’d never heard of this place before. Worth a visit.
S.
Nice place. Needs a little looking after so i assume the more people that goes the more income they may get in order to give the place a much needed care. But overall we had lots of fun and the peace it bought. Front cafe has treasure hunt maps for kids to take part in and you have to try their in-house baked lime cheesecake. 😁
D.
A very beautiful and peaceful place for a walk - really worth the drive
J.
Awesome place for a day picnic. Beautiful flowers 💐
E.
Lovely Cafe, the food was excellent!
So nice to be able to sit outside in the garden and catch up with a group of friends. Thanks!
a.
Wonderful place for family out
Very good activity for kids
Cafe is awesome
L.
A lovely romantic spot 💕 with a good cafe, shop and friendly staff. We look forward to coming back 🌸
A.
Although this place needs a bit attention, I still love it!!!
D.
Lovely water falls, breathtaking scenery, flowers and water lillies.
P.
The gardens used to be spectacular and are still pretty good. However there is now a lack of maintenance on a great deal of the gardens. In saying that it is still worth a look. It has suck a wonderful atmosphere when walking the gardens. The Cafe is ok. There is a wedding area that is good but needs some maintenance around the edges. The animals need some more love.
C.
Neat little spot hidden away in Patumahoe. Good food at the cafe, and a playground for the kids, though the kids enjoyed running around the gardens most. Really well put together gardens to enjoy
T.
Nice water gardens. They have packed a surprising amount into this lovely area
F.
Really nice place. Amazing waterfall. Tracks definitely need maintenance and gardening then this place will rock. Still lovely waterlillies and waterfall worth a look. Cafe yummy food. A genuine frog pond too.
B.
Great day out with elderly mother, wonderful rough and ready garden, lots to look at especially if go further in on some lesser tracks, great yum salad bowl and pizza.
S.
Beautiful sights but very run down. Needs a lot of work done to get it to a tourist worthy attraction. Staff were friendly.
M.
Would be much better if the place would be kept up a bit better. Needs some paint and major R&M. Cafe was an excellent place which made my day better
T.
I have been there first time and will definitely go back again.
Absolutely worth it. Loved it. ❤
S.
Highly recommend too visit this place, wonderful staff great atmosphere beautiful views and just a wonderful place too take the family.. Great food
N.
Beautiful experience, dog friendly walk🐕🐕 Awesome meal afterwards! Friendly atmosphere 👍
p.
Lovely place.
Was able to wash in the lake and came out pretty clean.
Very refreshing
D.
Beautiful but seems unkempt. Couldn’t get to observe alpacas up close as lawn was overgrown. Saw from distance though. Plants overgrown and weeds everywhere, easily get whacked in face with plants. Worst part was not knowing where to go because of lack of signage. Didn’t find wishing well or eel pond. Felt there should’ve been safety rails for several parts.
M.
Would be much better if the place would be kept up a bit better. Needs some paint and major R&M. Cafe was an excellent place which made my day better
A.
Lovely gardens, definitely worth a visit. Not great for the elderly as it is steep and has loose gravel.
T.
Nice water gardens. They have packed a surprising amount into this lovely area
J.
Been here many times. Love waterlilies.New paths in places but not accessible for prams and wheelchairs.Looking a little OTT with the imitation Greek statues and heart symbols
S.
Highly recommend too visit this place, wonderful staff great atmosphere beautiful views and just a wonderful place too take the family.. Great food
M.
Nice walk through the water gardens to the waterfall. Great little cafe on site as well
C.
The five stars are for the wide variety of plants and beautiful lotus and water lily ponds. However, the entry price was a bit steep for what you get and it is really only enjoyable on a nice day. It was very quiet when we went though and a nice place for some quiet reflection.
J.
It's a lovely visit and walk through nature. Of course there is a lot that could be done to make it pristine, but it's enjoyable to wander through, more like a wander through unkempt wilderness rather than the botanic garden.
M.
We really enjoyed our walk around the gardens. Lovely to be able to take the dog and bin provided (clean up your own dogs poo). A rustic serene garden. Water lilies amazing.
T.
I have been there first time and will definitely go back again.
Absolutely worth it. Loved it. ❤
N.
Beautiful experience, dog friendly walk🐕🐕 Awesome meal afterwards! Friendly atmosphere 👍
R.
Beautiful place and walk through the gardens was super fun.
m.
Lily and loftus are very beautiful. The garden itself needs some work though
n.
So much better than my last visit a few years ago. Looking tidier in the reception area and gift shop. Awesome restaurant, amazing food, highly recommended!
Perfect spot for a coffee, feed and for the kids to run around and play on the playground.
C.
Staff were friendly and welcoming. Cafe staff were attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The playground kept our daughter busy and dog and cat were a hit! We would recommend the cafe.
Gardens were ok, not as bad as people describe from reviews a year ago. An effort has been made and they were pretty picturesque, albeit a little overgrown in places. Some beautiful flowers, stunning waterfall and ponds with water lillies.
I think there price is fair - but oh man! NOT STROLLER, TODDLER OR ELDERLY FRIENDLY. Slippery, steep terrain with trip hazards, rocks sticking out of paths and open bodies of water galore. As for the uneven boardwalk with no railings - how bizarre. I hope that when we return in the future it will be a bit more put together so that more people can enjoy it safely, because it is a beautiful setting with great potential to be amazing for weddings.
J.
The gardens are beautiful and appear to have been cared for in the past. This is a beautiful property brimming with untapped potential. It needs a lot of TLC and a dynamic kick. The cafe decor is awful. With such lovely surroundings we sat looking straight into the kitchen. Food mediocre. It could be an amazing venue and nursery if given the attention it deserves.
S.
Great friendly staff with lovely eating facility. Absolutely stunning waterfall.
unfortunately its poorly kept with broken moldy seating and rundown facility. There's very little signage and maps that are not easily followed. Overall would not recommend or return against
K.
Kids said their food was good.
We, however thought the meals were far less than average.
The walk was nice. They are obviously doing some developments which didn't disrupt our walk too much. So, good management of that and look forward to another visit in a year or so to see what they have done.
I would highly recommend the walk.
If I didn't go to the cafe, I would have given Wrights a 5 star review.
M.
Nice meal coffee great and the local chooks gorgeous.
N.
Wonderful and magic place. Friendly staff. Definitely will visit again
C.
Liked the experience, easy to get around
D.
Beautiful place, stunning gardens with water lillies. Needs more signage as map not best. Staff amazing, food and service well worth trip alone.
N.
Nice garden. To bad its pay to enter.
P.
I was hesitant to come to these gardens after reading the reviews on this website but I'm glad that i did decide to ignore the reviews and see the gardens for myself. I thought the price was fair and my mum and I had a brilliant time here. It was so tranquil and relaxing. A great way to de-stress it was like a load had been lifted off our shoulders. Parts of the garden were quirky. You had to look carefully for all the detail. Someone has a sense of humour too. It is the type of garden that makes the best use of its natural surroundings with a beautiful waterfall. Where ever you are in the garden you can hear the waterfall which brought music to my ears. The cafe is in a wonderful setting and again so tranquil. There isn't really any cabinet food but the meals or sides are great. I wouldn't like to visit the gardens in the winter though. The gardens are not suitable for pushchairs and people that find it challenging walking down steps or uneven surfaces. If you prefer modern garden structures and perfect rows of flowers then I would not recommend that you visit these gardens but if you like gardens set in amongst their natural surroundings this garden is the perfect one for you. I would definitely visit again.
M.
So beautiful and peaceful
A little paradise
z.
Very lovely place, amazing views and wonderful garden with waterfall. Parking available and it's the place you can enjoy with your family as its not far from Auckland.
K.
Very friendly staff, lovely food. Great location.
J.
Yes this place is in need of some maintenance but don't let this distract from the gorgeous gardens. We almost didn't go in because the entrance and cafe was a bit dilapidated but don't let this deceive you, the gardens are amazing. With a bit of TLC I'd give this place five stars.
S.
Wonderful day family day out lovely to have lunch in cafe
K.
Fantastic place to chill and look at the lilies and waterfalls
S.
Lovely place for a walk... friendly service
R.
Fun place to visit. Nature walks. Away from city
G.
Good and pleasant exercise. In desperate need of maintenance.
J.
Slowly declining. Even the free Botanic Gardens seem like much better cared for. They have a great idea and the place is blessed with natural features like the waterfall but they’re killing off it’s potential.
C.
Beautiful garden , we were impressed by the variety of water lilies in the ponds. Must visit if you are in this area.
E.
Beautiful, natural environment. Must visit.
H.
We visited on a public holiday and the cafe was a mess. Dishes not cleared away - awful factory type cake. The gardens are pretty but festooned with horrible statuettes - deers, cherubs, gnomes and toadstools. Leave nature to speak for herself....
F.
Gardens themselves are Okay in their own right, though as others have mention, perhaps needs a bit of TLC in places (when compared to other gardens such as Eden gardens, Kaipara gardens, Ngatea gardens, etc). Took advantage of the Groupon deals for half price at $6 each which is probably the right price given it’s current state. (The usual $12 otherwise is IMO a bit on the high side)
C.
Great breakfast, lovely staff and beautiful setting. Had a late breakfast here followed by a walk around the water garden - nothing quite like this in Auckland. Dog friendly!
K.
Went to the gardens today with miss 7.5 and master 5. Although the gardens were closed, we decided to have some lunch in the cafe.
Absolutely brilliant and tasty food....didn't have to wait long and the lady on duty was so welcoming and friendly.
A.
Gardens are beautiful. Bit disappointed with food ordered French toast it had cheese on it not something I enjoyed. Also the toilets really need to be cleaned.
M.
Beautiful garden and the waterfall is breathtaking. Awesome place to visit with a nice cafe
A.
Awesome Garden for Wedding & function venues that only 30mins away from Manukau City , We went there for photo competition loved it very much. It is totally different views with Auckland Botanic Garden that is sitting on the flat land. Fantastic Lotus , Water lilies & beautiful water fall all in one picture, I can't think anywhere else in Auckland I can take the same photo. definitely the must do !!!
H.
Had our wedding there. . Patrick n his famiky were very accomodating. . Turned out well. Hired all 3 venues. They let us come back to do additional photos for no charge.. worked out deals on thr spot - like clean up and soilage charges.. which avoided head aches for us. They need to upgrade their air conditioning though! Was a very muggy night.. toilets had no eater at one stage
..but that was resolved quickly. Had to micro manage their staff with obvious stuff like umbrellas for the rain and shade. Bit of a language barrier.
S.
Great place to visit,a little overgrown in parts and could do with more signs but really enjoyable, cafe was really good food and service
S.
Really beautiful, lots of ponds and the waterfall was gorgeous! Cute dog too
W.
Was there yesterday and today. Both days the same. Food delicious, staff friendly and helpful, thanks Glenys 😊 your a star! Would recommend this place to all.
S.
Lovely because waterlilies in flower at moment. Walk gardens then lvly lunch at Frog and Lily cafe
T.
Beautiful gardens. Though some work to be done here and there on some of the new additions they are still definitely worth a visit. Well worth the $12.
E.
Very friendly and supportive staff.
R.
Great gardens and walk on a lovely weekend weather. A lovely waterfall.
c.
Most amazing and as close to untouched beauty as can be expected from a garden, if you a proper nature addict this place is for you if you want a prim proper garden show it won't be :-) 👍👍👍👍
H.
Fantastic visit- tasty food, great service and beautiful gardens.
H.
Very nice place for an evening stroll, paths can be hard to navigate.
林.

T.

T.
Enjoyed the gardens. Loved the lunch - thanks to Tamar and the team!!!
J.
Great place. Would have been fantastic in its day. New ownership will hopefully continue to improve things.
P.
Beautiful spot for a wedding reception or any function. I like taking a walk through the beautiful scenery with plenty of pics to be taken.
B.
Cafe was ok...grounds were nice but were in need of attention.....but it was a nice setting and a good walk.
J.
A great spot for a wander
i.
cafe great but the garden walk needs work, particularly directional signage and safety aspects, care needed
J.
The place could do with a new make over - fresh paint on the building and fixing up the other attractions on the place.
S.
Well manicured gardens and makes for a good quiet retreat for personal time
K.
This was our first visit here. We took a packed lunch and spent a few hours wandering around exploring the wonderful sights.
