Central city library has gone above and beyond since the CHCH quake. It has turned from being just a library to a popular day trip locale for families of all ages. Love the building (architecturally amazing), love the planned activities (baby sessions), love the facilities (books of all genres and languages, gaming consoles, lego pools and slides for kids…). Not to mention The Foundation Cafe!

I arrived at the library with plenty of time to spare before attending a genealogy course in the family history area on the 2nd floor so I decided to borrow a book. All the staff that I spoke to on two different floors were exceptionally helpful and I now have a good book to read. The course commenced at 2 p.m. and there were two others there. They normally have four but one person was unable to come today. The small size was wonderful as we all managed to get the help we needed. When the course finished at 4.p.m. the tutor stayed back another hour to catch me up with what I had missed. I am so impressed with the course material and the expertise of the tutor I will certainly be recommending subsequent courses to my family and friends.

Great place. Car parks are near. Lego and Duplo for creative mind. Pretend play and acting out for others. Reading is the main things. The slide is out of action till covid is out. Too many floors to explore. Best to spend all day there.

Absolutely amazing library! I will come here regularly to do some work. Lots of places to sit down with a laptop. They have fast free WiFi, meeting room spaces, and lockers to leave your belongings. I was also surprised and impressed by the 3D printers, and a full music recording studio. It’s a pretty amazing place!

Gone are the days of a quiet place for reading. The library itself is ok and staff are helpful and willing to go out of their way. Unfortunately the behavior of a few idiots who visit and treat the library as their own personal lounge to do whatever they want really spoils the environment. Despite security being available never leave anything unattended for even a few minutes. Theft is not uncommon here. You'll get the best views of the Cathedral from the outside balcony area available in the upper level. Great for unobstructed photos.

Best library I've been to in my life. The building itself is gorgeous & has gems of discovery around every turn. They have a production studio with instruments and also a laser engraver & 3D printer... The 4th floor creativity space is the best thing for a community. This spot alone is grounds enough for me to want to establish permanent residency in chch.

Absolutely a library of international standard, modern design/ideas to keep the visitors as long as possible. Well make used of space available. Equiped with books, digital learning, and creative thinking corner as well. Definitely a five star library.

Great place to come with kids. Ground floor café is really good, quite expensive, but worth every penny. Friendly staff, wonderful book variety. Highly recommended!

This is such a cool place to visit! Feels more like an art gallery. There is an amazing kids section with the Imagination Station - Lego building space, games and cool cushions. There is a rooftop garden with awesome views across the city. The staff were really helpful too. My son enjoyed the virtual reality studio and 3D printer. There is also computerized embroidery sewing machines and a laser cutter available to use too. Highly recommend a visit, but give yourself at least an hour! :)

What a great new facility for Christchurch! I wasn't sure when looking from the outside at this building if it would do the city justice but l was wrong. Once inside you can appreciate the thought that has gone into the design and the layout of it. The atmoshere is relaxed and the friendly staff make all feel welcome. The availability of a drink and snack inside was welcome as well. Well done.

Amazing!! went up to the 4th floor to the technology area and did a laser cutting project for a mothers gift. The staff were super friendly and helpful.

Awesome library. You could easily spend a whole afternoon here. Quiet reading areas, a great café and - most importantly - a huge floor just for kids with a playground, Lego and even videogames. Staff is always helpful and friendly.

I cannot applaud Christchurch City Library enough for their prompt and professional service in regards to the location of my achieved published newspaper articles. It was a breath of fresh air to experience such professional and prompt service from overseas.

I love this building with culturally significant points in the Canterbury landscape and beyond. The golden aluminium facade, or veils, on the building reflect the folded nature of the nearby Port Hills with their warm colours and shadows. It also echoes the triangular leaves of the native harakeke flax which originally grew in swamps around the site etc.

Christchurch's central library is well worth visiting. Plenty of interesting and interactive things to do, especially for kids. A lovely well thought out and modern building with views of parts of the CBD and cathedral. Our 17 month old boy loves coming here. Staff have also always been friendly and accommodating.

Amazing space for all ages, kids and disabled friendly facilities. 5 stories tall building archetecture design and built to world standard. Beautiful people working in the library nice and friendly walking you through all questions. Toilets are located on every single floor. Kids area is a whole floor including Lego land, indoor slide, and reading pod. The cost to build it was 92million dollars.

Coolist library so far. Got cute name for floors not just boring level 1 and stuff. Free cinemas, playstations, slides and various books ambracing different cultures. I was surprised it has section for even Korean Books. Amazing

This library is amazing! This place shows the true Christchurch - lots of people having fun and learning. They have all the books you could need, lots of cultural learning and fun activities - including ps4 😅 You can use the internet on a pc for free with a guest pass for 30 mins, members get 1 hour. Wifi is free on your own device 👍 Shout out to PB tech for putting a heap of interactive bits to keep us amused on a rainy day waiting for a flight 😅 Please like this review if it helped 😁

Absolutely brilliant place for the people of Ōtautahi (Christchurch) and visitors alike. So many opportunities exist here. Don't forget to explore all floors. Auahatanga (creativity) on level four is an amazing place for being creative. There are 3D Printers, Sewing Machines, VR sets, vinyl cutter, laser cutter and a full media studio that allows you to book in and under guidance from specialists, record music and fill on high level equipment. You will not be disappointed visiting this local treasure. For the record, I work for Libraries but regardless, this place is next level and worthy of all the awards it has received over the last year and a half since opening. Stunning views also from the balconies.

Great asset for the city building architecture shows a lot of thought and will fit well with what is around it. Building has a number of levels each for specific needs. Activity wall appears to be used a fair amount although at 1.3 million not a 100% sure of its value. Has cafes plenty of places to relax with good natural lighting.

Beautiful library! It's got a good collection of books amd resouces if you become a member. I discovered you could get LinkedIn learning for free using your membership details! Plus a lot more like ebooks, movies etc. The place itself is modern and nice to be at. I usually come here after work to chill :)

Really cool library don't get me wrong, but it is a bit over the top. Barely anyone in there actually cares about the ridiculous number of books on the shelves. Everyone is just on their laptops or messing around with the computers and other non-traditional library stuff. Seems like it is used more as a kind of community center than a library. It's quite a shame because as someone who regularly gets books from the library, a lot of books are now kept at Turanga which means I have to put a hold on many books to be delivered to my local South library. I'll definitely be sticking to the South library which I still believe is the best library in Christchurch by a good margin.

What a library! We were visiting from out of town and came here on a rainy day with our kids. The kids floor is awesome! Loads of books, huge lego and duplo building areas. There is even a playground! The toilets and change room were tidy and clean. Cafe downstairs does good coffee. What more could you want!

A great collection of books, big play area for kids, Lego zone full of heaps of Legos, video games (xbox/ps), cafe, computers, printing facilities, seating areas and much more. This is by far the nicest library I have been to. It has some amazing facilities, great books, lots of child friendly activities. Cafe is really nice aswell not the cheapest but it’s well worth it.

How wonderful it is to have a good library back in our central city. It felt wonderful walking my son through the front door and leading him up the steps. I love the big windows that overlook the city and the light colours within the library. They've done an amazing job creating places that are fun to be in and I also love their selection of children books. We saw the CSO preform in a big function room and that was superb. Loved that they had a little cafe in it too. Can't wait to explore it further!

Absolutely amazing library with heaps to do. Other than the huge selection of books, there's a great archive service for family tree stuff, a Lego area, VR, sound studio, sewing machines and laser cutter, and some really interesting and fun events. The staff are top notch.

Amazing facility! More than just a library. It has great kids area and community area. Having a sawing room to massive game screen would accommodate many people with various interests. It could get crowded in school holidays but plenty of room for everyone. Higher you go quieter it gets. It has lifts as well as stairs. The new location gives you the view of the cathedral square instead of the riverside. We could have stayed all day if we hadn't need to worry about parking.

Staff very helpful has a disabled entrance and is open from 8am to 8pm on all floors and 9am to 8pm on floors two to four. There are four lifts and each floor has a bank of unisex toilets. On the fourth floor there is a music studio and balconies which you can go out onto and sit down when it's fine

Only inconvenience is parking. Unlike the old libraries in the city there is nowhere free to park your car in the vicinity. Very nice library, and much more. Many activities, cafeteria, quiet areas and social areas. A very knowledgeable librarian took the time to give us a thorough introduction to what they had on offer and soon to come. Tūranga is Christchurch's public library with a vast collection of books, magazines and movies. It is a massive 5-storey building and a bibliophile's paradise. It is a great place to take your kids too as they have a lot of activities for them as well. Totally recommend going here if you've a few hours to pass on a hot sunny day!

The most fantastic library I have ever visited. Spread over 5 or 6 levels, there are quiet and noisy areas and these are separated so that there is very little noise leakage, so the people enjoying a coffee in the cafe on level 1 are not disturbing people who are accessing reference matter on level 2. The Staff here in the christchurch history section where I was doing to genealogy research were thorough and very very helpful. The building is beautiful. If I lived near here I would definitely visit often.

This is the greatest library I have been to, they have something for everyone no matter what age you are or what your interests are. On the ground floor there's a great Cafe to have a coffee at. There is also a computer station which has all sorts of things that might interest nerds of all ages. The family history collection is really helpful and has resources of all types that you might need. The outside garden balconies are awesome and make a great place to relax, read or hang out with friends. The study rooms inside are great if you are student as they give you a place to with with friends without it being too noisy.

Reported a scanner not working. Told a staff member, showed her. Her response if it doesnt scan choose another book.!!!! So helpful. Expect the shelves to go clockwise non fiction did, fiction anticlockwise. Needs more signage. Brief visit, looks impressive. Use the lifts, fiction on the fourth floor. Stairs make you breathless. Noisy, people running around.

This library is definitely better then the central library of other major cities across New Zealand, the good interior and cutting-edge technology. However, this library lacks a conventional reception, therefore one most go after one of the library staffs that are constantly moving around the library if they need help, making accessibility an issue.

Turanga is a special place. It's unlike any city library you've been to before. The facility is world-class and a true digital heart of the city. A great place to come and learn something new, study, work, or have excellent coffee and food at the Foundation cafe. Seriously, their menu is amazing. Wi-Fi throughout the library is strong and fast. This is my favorite library in the world.
