Reviews of National Library of New Zealand

Great exhibition of waitangi treaty. You get to be in the same space as all 9 documents. Can take photos, no flashlight as it can damage the documents, no food and drink. Free lockers available near the entrance. Guided tour available, disable entrance/toilet, pram access, Baby room available on the ground floor. Well designed space, good use of technologies, everything is in all three NZ official languages, Cafe inside. Great place to spend an afternoon and learn some nz history.

A brilliant display of art, photos, books, documents etc from the libraries back-rooms is currently on show. (Till October) It kept me totally engaged and constantly astonished.

The National Library of New Zealand (Māori: Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa) is New Zealand's legal deposit library charged with the obligation to "enrich the cultural and economic life of New Zealand and its interchanges with other nations" (National Library of New Zealand (Te Puna Mātauranga) Act 2003).
The library supports schools through its Services to Schools business unit, which has curriculum and advisory branches around New Zealand. The Legal Deposit Office is New Zealand's agency for ISBN and ISSN.
The library headquarters is close to the Parliament of New Zealand and the Court of Appeal on the corner of Aitken and Molesworth Streets, Wellington.

Very helpful staff. Can request items online and they will put aside for you. Very quite atmosphere and it have to really be willing to study your material whilst you are there, as some of it is not allowed to leave the library because that is how special it is. Some material you are allowed to take photos for your own use. Really like this place for looking for non-mainstream material.

I'm only reviewing the library cafe since I didn't spend time in the library itself.
If half stars can be given I would rate this place a 3 1/2 stars. I love the idea of combining a library and a cafe. The cafe was nice. The staff was friendly, coffee was great and pastries were really good as well. It's definitely a nice little spot to meet a friend for a coffee, or take a library break to read a book at.

I visited the library and the cafe, wonderfully helpful staff who expalined where the computers were for me. I spent two hours in the computers and had a short walk around the exhibitions there, i was a little disappointed that the original treaty documents were not on show, due to restoration requirements, but it was nice to see them properly.

Great place to get some work done. If you want a quiet spot head upstairs. Downstairs near the cafe can get busy and noisy. Was great when you could get cafe food sent directly to you desk but they've stopped that now.

For any book lover or history lover this place is well worth the visit.

We went down to Wellington Queens birthday weekend specificly to see the Gallipoli exhibition at Te Papa & the treaty at the National library. Checked your website to see if you were open on Monday, yes 5th June was on there, even telling us what was happening. So off we went in the wet & cold, walked up there only to find it not open!! Disappointed, surely it wouldn't have been difficult to put a note on the Web last week, saying "it's closed". To add salt to the wound the Cathedral wasn't open either!
K.

(Translated) Very good library, spacious, quiet, with lots of places to work upstairs.
Only small defect, the opening hours are not very wide.
The cafe on the ground floor opens earlier.
(Original)
Très bonne bibliothèque, spacieuse, calme, avec de nombreux endroits pour travailler à l'étage.
Seul petit défaut, les horaires d'ouvertures ne sont pas très larges.
Le café au rdc ouvre lui plus tôt.
