One of the best places for the locals to learn and spend time catch up with friends. It offers the great atmosphere for all ages to refresh themselves by reading.
D.
Fantastic central community library: magazines, CDs, DVDs, reference, journals, books, great kids, YA areas, study zones
An essential part of life in Wellington (especially if you have a family). Very treasured.

Spent here quite a lot of time last year and really loved it. You can find all kind of books and a great atmosphere here. Whenever I wanted to have a good time reading I came here and always found a good place. The children's corner is great as well and there's a place to pray on the first floor next to the Cafe.
F.
It has three floors, each one has hundreds shelves of books I assume, because its really big. Love the vibes around, everyone seems concentrating on something they really love. Also, they have a cafe where you can get great food after a hunting in knowledge.

I'm devastated that the library is closed for good! It was the first place my family discovered when we're first came to Wellington. We spent hours every weekend here, lying around reading books, listening to music and picking out movies, then wandering up to Clarks for a cuppa. What will we do now...forget everything else! The library is a priority...

Wellington Central Library is a great place to hang out. Heaps of good books and public spaces to use. It also has paid computer access and printing. You can connect to the free “cbdfree” wifi too. Too bad it’s closed at the moment for earthquake strengthening. When it is back open it should be a great place again.

What's not to love about a library. We were just visiting wellington and I need a place to work and open my laptop and I had a productive afternoon here. Nice ambience to work / study, especially with the view overlooking the harbour - couldn't ask more! We get a free wifi from the city as well - Thank you Wellington.

An impressive library for such a small city. A huge amount of space over 4 floors. A cafe with large amounts of seating areas, and desks and chairs all around the library for working. Free Wi-Fi is great here, provided by Wellington Council.
They have heaps of books of all types, CDs, DVDs, magazines etc.
A.
Big library with lots of space to read and study. Heaps of cool resources like DVDs and magazines. Even has loads of cool vinyl records. Cool little cafe inside too.
J.
A large and very well equipped library, colocated with the Citizens Advice Bureau and Clark's Cafe. The collection is extensive and covers pretty much anything you would care to read. There's also a large audiovisual section where music and movies/TV series can be hired. There's a special children's area with beanbags and toys, which hosts children's storytime and other activities. Throughout the four levels of the library there are plenty of armchairs forr quiet reading, desks for individual study, and tables for group discussion. It's a good place to meet a friend or do some individual work. It's also warm and inviting in winter when it's cold and wet outside.

Fantastic library. Various little nooks to curl up and plant yourself down, always lots of folks with laptops. Great variety of books over different floors as well as magazines, dvds&cds. Ground floor also has a good children's area. New self check out machines are great, super quick and easy to use - have seen little people&grandas use them no problems. Most of the staff are super friendly and helpful. Great big book sale a couple of times a year. Clarks cafe upstairs is a great spot too. All the libraries do interloans, would definitely recommend downloading the app.
G.
A great library! Airy and spacious, excellent selection of books, a good cafe attached, and overall a relaxing environment. They also sell off old books a couple of times a year.

Generally speaking the Wellington City library has top of the line and very up to date collection of general interest books, magazines, CDs, DVDs etc. But it really falls short if you are after resources for research of any sort of depth. And as someone else mentioned the fees and fines are horrendous.
s.
Great place for young kids, music sessions, and pin group are held here too.
S.
Wonderful librarians that went out of their way to help us find misplaced books and even check one out after the computer had been shut down and the staff were on their way out the door,. We greatly appreciate this extra care that at our local library.
B.
Large amounts of collection, all sorts of book you are looking for, great service, free WiFi, friendly staff, and nice coffee, its so sad to hear that they are going to close due to the public safety concerns with the building construction, many thanks.
D.
My favorite service I utilized the most in Wellington since my arrival in 2012. It gave me access to wide range of books and online resources. It is the best place to start exploring as a new migrant.
