I'm not a so called wine buff, but I certainly enjoy my beers and wines. The 2011 Cab Sav is just gorgeous, even on an empty stomach which usually cries out for a beer at early evening. The aroma is full and smooth and the taste on the tongue is simply delicious, and much fuller than the usual Otago white wines which I find a bit thin on the palette. Maybe I'm in a good mood or this wine puts me in a very good mood.

Tried to taste Coal Pit's wine, but there was a sign that they don't do tastings at the vineyard, so don't come here but go down to Kinross Cottages (about 1km further on the main road). At Kinross, we tried 2 Coal Pit wines, a rose and a Pinot. The wines were ok. The rose had a lot of sour apple notes; the Pinot was light with some kind of musty earthy spice. Both had an ending bitterness that I didn't love, but my husband didn't mind it as much.

Fantastic wines, usually a big fan of a glass of the 2017 rosé in the sun or even better a bottle of the 2014 Pinot by the fire in Queenstown!

Love their wine, be sure to stop at Kinross Cottages for their cellar door.
