Reviews of Gibbston Valley™ Winery & Restaurant
A.
The Gnocchi were seriously delicious, with a very fresh and interesting taste. I wish the portion size was bigger, as I didn’t want it to end! Our french server was absolutely lovely, he was kind and funny and made sure we always had a great glass of wine the whole time we were there.
Hopefully we‘ll be back for more, as I would love to go on a tour of the barrel hall!
J.
Awesome platter of food which was easily big enough to feed 2 of us for lunch. Wine tasting was great too, especially liked that they had a few different wine tasting menus to choose from so you could choose all white wine if you wanted. Service was great too!
T.
This is a great experience that i believe everyone should try! My tourguide is supper knowledgeable, and very interactive with clients (sorry i couldnt recall the name of the lovely lady from China ❤️) She has an outstanding and amazing knowledge about the industry, and delivers a great service to accomodate us. Thank you again for the great time! The experience was really fun and informative! 🥰 (My tour was on 26 Dec at 2pm). Cheers
D.
Excellent food and wine. Great service. Fabulous outdoor dining in a picturesque garden setting. Restaurant is very popular and books up quickly.
D.
Pretty nice winery with accomodations, restaurant, cheesery, wine cave and on and on. You can call it a one stop destination for a lot of things. Located very close to Queenstown so it a really convenient place to visit if you don't want to go far from Queenstown.
M.
We had a delicious lunch and had a tour of the winery from Grant. Grant was fantastic, extremely knowledgeable and an absolute hoot. We would come back just to see him.
B.
Great food we shared a tasting platter. Also had wine tasting. Well set up for people on bikes, lots of bike stands. And big car park
T.
Shared a platter with my gòod wife , did some wine tasting. The waitress explained the food and wine in a way that you understood . Good parking area for larger vehicles . The Cheeserie had a unbelievable amount of different varieties of cheese .
N.
An awesome experience. Great wines, great atmosphere, and the service was amazing. Bindy did an awesome job and we're sure to come back! (and recommend to others)
J.
Lee gave our hens group a fantastic wine and cheese tour in the wine cave. She was fun and informative - we couldn’t have asked for more!
S.
Bindi was an amazing guide with so much knowledge and personality, would 100% recommend the wine tour with her

VISIT: end of February 2020
Our Bike tour from Around the Basin Bike Tours ended at this winery and it was SO cute. The wine was delicious as well as the oysters. It's not a traditional treat after a bike ride, but it was delicious nonetheless. The decor of the winery was so cute both inside and outside and all the staff to friendly and accommodating. Especially considering our biking gear/attire didn't match that of the other patrons, but no one cared. What a great way to end the day!
J.
Great food and very friendly staff. The only downside was that with most of their wines being $80 or above, the tasting fees are not waived with any purchases. However, the staff did state that they were happy to do a complimentary tasting on 2 wines before purchasing.
S.
I visited with my husband and 2 boys a few days ago. I prefer the wine tasting experience of a few other wineries, which I have found to be more personal and informative, but I have to say the restaurant experience her was excellent! The food and wine was beautiful and Bronson, our waiter, was fantastic. He is a real asset to the team. 😊
A.
Such an amazing day, the cheese and wine pairing was delicious!! What a beautiful location, all the staff are so friendly and helpful. Loved it and will be making another trip again soon
A.
All wines were vegan which was awesome! So many options which was very rare. The wine was also delicious and our server knew a lot about the wine making process and ensured us the vegan refining processes. Only issue is there was only 1 vegan food option and we were told that the only time they can cater for vegans is if there are told in advance.
J.
Did the wine cave tour and tasting and it was a great experience. Our tour guide Lee was lovely, professional and very knowledgeable and the wine and cheese were fantastic. Thank you Lee for a very pleasant morning!
E.
Incredible stay. Great food and fantastic wine. The lodge facilities are excellent - very much enjoyed the private cinema. Loved the local tours and tasting too, highly recommended doing the the wine/cheese pairing in the cave.
K.
Absolutely loved it. We did a wine tasting and ordered a cheese platter and fries. Adrian served us. He was awesome! He gave us time to sit and enjoy ourselves but checked on us regularly to make sure we were OK. Adrian shared his knowledge about the wine and cheese, which we really appreciated. The food (those FRIES) was absolutely DELICIOUS, and we loved the cozy relaxed feel of the place. Thank you for looking after us Adrian, we had an awesome time. 10/10 recommend!
W.
Lee, you are a #1 hostess. Thank you for entertaining us on Mothers Day. The Cellar wine tour is a MUST DO. This cave initially began with a bit of dynamite (& a bit of labour) ... enough to make 70 meters of wine cellaring.
WINE - So much to taste that I think we need more than one day to appreciate it all. Therefore we will be back.
J.
Great food. We had a great time and everyone was satisfied with their meals.
M.
We've been to GV for tastings many times but this was the first time we ate there. What a pleasant surprise and we regret not eating there earlier. Totally loved the pork belly and the lamb dish.
J.
If you’re looking for a boutique experience - this isn’t the place to come. Not much unreserved seating - we arrived at 315pm and the tables that were reserved for 230pm were still being held. Wines were nice, but quite pricey. When compared to the Marlborough experience it didn’t stack up. A shame as we only had time for one winery. We did like the cheese and purchased 3 varieties. Quite pretty outside (if you can get a table).
P.
Amazing winery and awesome tour made spectacular by our Sommelier extraordinaire Bindi
S.
Beautiful spot, fantastic wine and wonderful staff. Fully recommended
l.
Bindi looked after us beautifully, fantastic wine knowledge and the 2014 vintage rosé was delightful.
C.
My partner and I had a great time here. Bronson took care of us and gave us an excellent service! The food and wine matching was also great. Definitely we will come back whenever we are driving around the South Island.
C.
Excellent experience wine and cheese tasting. Definitely recommend this. Zach knew his stuff.
A.
We stopped by for a quick lunch. Great seating options at the restaurant, this time we were seated outside. The waitress and hostess was lovely and attentive.
We ordered the wild rabbit lasagne, the portion size was a bit small and it was a bit dry for my liking, still quite good.
Scotch fillet was very good, it had a nice charcoal smell/taste to it which you won't find very often in NZ restaurants. I really enjoyed it.
They of course had a large wine selection and we had the 2017 GV Pinot Noir. Perfecto!
E.
Great service. Minimalist menu which i like because I'm an indecisive person and the less options I have to choose from the less time I'll take to actually choose.
Nice people, great wine matches with the food. The right size servings. It was all so tasty. I had rabbit lasagne and the main was a chicken breast (so tender and juicy) with chorizo and beans. Not my normal dish I'd choose so was pleasantly surprised.
I'd definitely be back on my next visit to Queenstown
G.
Recently traveled here to look at the underground cave. I liked the cave but the rest of the winery was truely magnificent. From the moment I stepped onto the shuttle bus I was treated wonderfully. The driver turned out to be French, from Brittany, my fovourite part of France and near my favourite town of Dinan. He was fantastically interesting and spoke highly of the winery and the surrounds. He knew his stuff.
I arrived at the winery and was the only person on the cave/lunch tour. The tour was interesting, the cave was everything I wanted, just a bit smaller than expected but with the history that went into the construction it was fascinating.
Here's the absolute kicker! I don't drink wine, never have, thought I never would, it all tasted like vinegar to me. That is, until I tried the Gibbston Valley Pinot Noir. I liked them. I didn't spit them out, I didn't screw my face up like I'd eaten a sour lolly I really liked all three and with the advice from the tour guide I was actually able to distinguish te differnet tastes in the varieties. I was stunned and I was happy.
Then I went in for the lunch. Serves were small. Serves were deceptive as they filled me very contentedly! I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir to have with lunch. Again something I had never done before, and boy did I enjoy drinking a lovely, lovely red with my extrordinarily tasty and extrordinariliy well prepared sous vide steak. The steak melted in my mouth, the taste was devine and the wine complemented everything! The winery had just introduced me to a whole new world of gastronomic delight. The problem is now I have to order a well made beer, a magnificent single malt whiskey AND a lovely Pinot Noir to go with my dinner. This means orderinmg more food.
And then when I was ready to return I spoke to the driver and asked him to drop me at the bus stop down the road so I could go to Arrowtown. He refused to drop me in the middle of the highway and he drove me directly into Arrowtown himself. Because of the service, the wine, the food, and the location I had one of my most wonderful days in Queenstown.
This is a place you must visit. I intend staying there when I return next.
By the way, I have ordered some of their wine online and will get delivery in the next few days. I am very much looking forward to tasting it again.
Z.
I really liked the place. The meal was amazing, the wine was lovely. Just be careful sampling the products, as you may get a bit drunk... :-)
m.
Great accommodation, fantastic meal at the restaurant and really helpful staff. The cave and winery tour was excellent, and daily included wine tasting with Alex was a delight. Highly recommend to visit, stay and relax.
Y.
Went for the lunch because of my mothers 60th birthday. They gave us a complimentary champagne glass and the staff were super friendly and professional.
The food were excellent as well compliment on the chef.
We had a great experience and thus far my favourite reataurant in Queenstown!!
G.
Great reception, we had two of the wine tasting flights with cheeseboard to nibble, bought a case to be shipped (free shipping to AKL!) and will be returning to hire bikes for a trail tour...what a lovely way to spend a late morning!
T.
What a great place! We popped into the winery on our way to Queenstown and it's absolutely worth a stop! We started with getting some cheese, and then headed over for some tastings. We were lucky enough to have Emily as our tasting guide. She was very knowledgeable about the wines as well as the property and it's history. She recommended we do the bike ride and wine tasting with a meal. So the next day we did. It was an absolute highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend doing the bike ride. Meal at the end was one of the best things I have eaten.
B.
Had a great time. Bindy was very helpful and generous the whole time! Loved it!
R.
Missed our flight because I got too into lunch.
Worth it tho. Shout out to Bronson (? - I think that was your name but after the free wine the winemaker gave us for showing special attention to her dog I honestly can’t be sure.). Service was perfect, meal was perfect, wine was perfect, courtyard had dogs so that was also perfect. Fully intended to tip but forgot in our flustered rush to get to the airport, so leaving this review instead. Didn’t matter tho, we still missed our flight. I blame omega rental returns because I could never blame such a bang on establishment as this one.
S.
We went for lunch at the winery, as for the aesthetics of the lunch area it isn’t very fancy. But the food, was some of the best we’ve had. Highly recommend the duck dish & signing up for the winery tour. Great staff
S.
lovely place to eat and drink! We had the course meal with wine pairing which was a great choice to try wines you would not normally pick. The service was great! Would definitely go again next time we are here.
L.
A must do if you are in the area! We had the best cave tour with Zach. He really knows his stuff when it comes to wine. Very informative and very knowledgeable and just and all round top bloke. A true asset to the company for sure! We will definitely be coming back.
A.
Stunning location, great wine.
As for the #tiramisuquest?
It's a disagreement between the two reviewers. For my husband, the experience - being chamingly coerced into ordering it, the Central Otago setting, make it a clear 3.5 star effort. For me, it's too wet, too sweet and not boozy enough: if we're in the Dragon's Den, I'm out. It's a 3 from me.
Overall, a 4 star experience.
P.
Had a wine cave tour today with Florien. The wine tour is an absolute must , we learned so much and their wines are the best ever tasted. Florien the Frenchman was amazing being very patient with us dumbo's . He explained all in detail and made the tour very interesting. You cannot miss the wine cave where the barrels are kept, never seen anything like it in NZ , likely the only one . Wine tasting included ! take lots of money their wines are the best I ve tasted!
F.
We visited for lunch whilst in queenstown for our honeymoon. It was a lunch to remember, we opted for the 3 course meal with matched wines. The foor was phenomenal, and wines beautiful! Our waiter Bronson - what an absolute legend! We will definitely be back again, hopefully soon!
The rabbit lasagne was a definite favorite for me.
M.
Really great experience in July 2020. We had a wine tour with Alex really charismatic, experienced and engaging! Alot of fun, able to ask questions and happily gave us recommendations for the cheese tasting and further tasting based on our preferences. Highly recommend going!! Thanks Alex 😬
A.
Had a cellar door platter for 2 with a bottle of Riesling. All up $75. Pretty good value for what we got. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Also shared a sampling of their Pinot Noirs on way out. All from different vineyards, obvious variations, but well made wines.
R.
5/5 for an excellent wine tasting experience with Lee who was very friendly & knowledgeable.
0/5 for the person behind the counter at the cheesery whose offhand and snotty manner made it seem like we interrupted her morning and she was doing us a favour by letting us buy some cheese.
C.
Amazing food, excellent service, beautiful wine and a great time spent here. Would return again and will be recommending to others to visit here.
E.
I’m not really the right person to write a review of a winery and a wine tasting because I know very little about wines. However we did visit this winery and did some tasting and it was a fun experience. It was very pleasant to sit down inside and in the grounds and they have a lot of experienced folks to help you understand and make choices
N.
The best winery I have ever visited. Very nice selection of cheese and great wine. Would definitely come back and would also recommend to my friends.
S.
Came in with a group of 20 for my birthday lunch and had the most fabulous experience. All the staff are incredible and made the day so special. Food and wine was delicious. We did a cave tour and the tasting was very interesting. Will recommend!
R.
A great selection of wine plus friendly service from the staff. Highly recommend stopping in for a visit.
G.
The perfect place to stop off for a break while on a bike ride round the region! Great wine tasting selection, the cheese board and Bindy's service was exactly what we were after, really made the experience 5 star! Kia kaha.
D.
Amazing barrel cave where we tasted 5 wines. Short talk on viticulture among the vines and a knowledgeable tasting gentleman. Recommended.
H.
Stayed here and had a great experience, food was amazing as was the wine (of course). Great accom and service was fantastic. Highly recommend the wine tasting experience.
D.
Exceptional food and obviously good wine. Good 2 and 3 course options. Pricing was fair given the quality.
Lovely environment for dining and wine tasting. Staff were international and really great.
However it's not acceptable to need to wear a coat inside a restaurant or wrap up in blankets they provide. Please provide some reasonble heating or another solution.
Z.
The staff were all amazing, the food was even better. The wine pairing was spot on, and the wine tour and tasting resulted in a new favourite drop... The Gibbston Valley Late Harvest Pinot Gris 2017 GV Collection!
S.
Great group tour in the wine cave. Our pick 2018 Le Maitre Pinot Noir. Yum.
A.
Great location along with all of the wineries in this stretch. Outstanding wines and the entire facility is very well done. Started in the winery for a taste, then headed to the cheesery to try cheeses and chutneys. Then over to the cave tour tasting (must do!) and back to the cheesery for lunch. Highly recommend!
C.
Our tour guide Zack was very knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed the cheese & wine tasting and the cave tour. Definitely a must do activity.
M.
We booked this venue for a family dinner celebration. The food was okay but nothing to rave about, they also charged $11 for a small cup of coffee which I personally think is ridiculous.
E.
Great wine tour, loved the cave. Alexios was amazing, really down to earth and answered all our questions. Had a really tasty cheese plate to finish.
D.
Great wine. No doubt. Unfortunately the staff at the cheesery were poorly managed and organised. We thought 50 minutes to order a three cheese platter with wine for just the two of us would be sufficient before catching the bus. After politely asking how much longer it would be, staff were rude and grumpy.
A.
The best meal I have had on Queenstonw. A varied menu with products of extreme quality. The wines are delicious and the service is excellent. A special thanks to Shanay who served us perfectly.
A.
Amazing food! Emma was amazing and kept the food and wine coming. Great service and atmosphere. Will definitely be back. Recommend the scotch fillet and the wild rabbit lasagna ❤️
A.
The man who did the tour and tasting was informative and friendly. The setting to try the wine was incredible, barrels of wines lined up in a cave.
The wines themselves were very good. Ate a cheese platter at the cheesery beforehand which was yummy. There is also a restaurant if you wish to have lunch.
Recommended as a great place to visit.
G.
27th June 2020: Went on a Wine Tour of this establishment. Well worth it. The young man leading the tour was most courteous and professional and accomodating.
Having done numerous winery tours up through Marlborough I thought the tour was a little bit short but am not sure what else could have been added. More about the wine making process maybe.
I'd be more than happy to recommend the tour for anybody visiting this way.
J.
Great food, cheese and wine selection. Plenty of parking and friendly helpful staff. Highly recommended as a relaxing stop on your travels.
T.
Great view. Great staff. Have one of the most friendly staff i met since I am in New Zealand. We ordered fish and pasta. Both were great. Even for a person who seldom eat pasta, I must say it taste nice.
J.
There's a lot of options here, we came for the wine cave tour but it was booked out. Seems to be every 2 hours, I recommend you book this in advance. The location, venue and environment is pretty nice. Presentation of the wine tasting was good, but it makes your experience less engaging with staff.
J.
Gorgeous cheese platter with pinot noir. Loved the honeycomb with cheese and the walnut sourdough. Exceptional
L.
We went for lunch and the food was exquisite :)
L.
One of the most delicious wineries I’ve ever eaten at. Flavours are so on point and work really well with each dish. Staff here are really nice and friendly and always willing to share exciting experiences and recommendations.
A.
What a stella afternoon with Paddy, the worlds best wine cave tour guide.
The selection was supremely crafted, the food delectable and the scenery gorgeous. Particularly loved our guides attention to detail and extensive knowledge of wine making. 11/10 for this unique afternoon in Otago, New Zealand 🍷✨
S.
Great place for wine tasting and some good food. The adjacent building also offers local variety of cheeses with great service to boast. The wine tasting is excellent with small tasting options for as low as 5 NZ$. Make sure to try their Pinot Noir!
m.
Had a lovely long lunch in the courtyard/garden with very attentive friendly service. Food & wine was all first class. Wines are very expensive by the bottle so check with your bank manager beforehand.
K.
We booked the wine, dine and tour package, great value for money. The lunch was incredible and our waitress Bindy went above and beyond allowing us to try a variety of wines to match our meals. Highly recommend.
L.
What a fabulous spot. Parking for campervans and a lovely outlook. The food was great, as was the wine. The service was friendly and prompt. Can't wait to go back. 😊
K.
We have booked lodge for 2 nights. This place is incredible. Greate wine, created and served by passionate team. Great customer service and the area is just wonderful.
We will be definitely back 😊
C.
We did the quick $5 tasting of wine which I highly recommend because you can try a few and see which you want to buy a glass of, my favourite was the pinoy grisio here. Fantastic.
E.
Absolutely excellent service and delicious wines! Massive shout-out to Alex who served us; she was amazing and really accommodating.
N.
We visited for wine tasting and nibbles. the staff were incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. We couldn't have asked for a better time!
S.
There's a lot going on at this place - wine tastings, winery tours, cheese shop, restaurant, gift shop, bike hire etc..and it is absolutely overrun with tour groups who seem to get priority.
Staff did their best to cope with the crush, and when we were finally seen to, they were friendly and knowledgable, but that was only after we were twice passed on to another staff member, as each person serving us apologised and told us they'd just been asked to look after a tour group.
Wines are good, but pricey, and the wine tasting fee is easily the most expensive I've seen anywhere.
Maybe early in the morning or late in the afternoon you might get a better experience, but for us the crowd, the noise and the hefty fees undermined the experience and reminded us to stick with the smaller family wineries, and avoid those on the tour bus schedules.
K.
Superb afternoon spent sampling the wines on offer - very knowledgeable and great service by Duncan - would highly recommend to others 😀
L.
Love this place ssssoooo much! Recommend it to everyone! Nice food, great wine, fabulous scenery, good service, a must visit for wine lovers. First time for me to try late harvest dessert wine, and I love it so much! This affogato is great, French chips are also great, all in all, everything is great about this place, the highlight of this southern island trip for me!
A.
Amazing views, Amazing staff, Amazing food. A must do!
M.
Went for lunch, had the rabbit starter and lamb main, was delicious, also paired with the China terrace chardonnay and the diamond pilot noir, wife had the chicken and dark chocolate dilece also delicious
C.
Such a quality location. Great staff and great food.
Amazing wine to be tasted in a lovely relaxing atmosphere.
M.
Beautiful Winery, fantastic platters, pizzas, restaurant, great spread of wine choices, try the Blanc de Blancs, you won't be disappointed.
T.
Large commercial organisation in Nice location. Wines ok. Food ok. Slightly odd separation of the lunch venue and the reesataurant. No contact with wine maker
A.
Way overpriced wine tasting offering, dished up by half baked service. Much better options down the trail at the other wineries.
P.
Impeccable food and service, would highly recommend this beautiful little restaurant. The cheese tasting in the cheesery was exceptional. We ordered the steak and it was absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to come back
k.
Lovely sample of wines accompanied by a great tasting platter. A fun experience for this novice 👍🏾😁
T.
We had a great wine tour guide and then had a delicious platter
C.
Quite expensive for what it's worth. Had more fun in other wineries in the region... Would skip this if come here again. It has the largest cave cellar down south .. but really not that special for me
R.
We had a lovely experience here. We came in for a wine tasting and then wandered across the courtyard to the cheesery. Both were excellent!
J.
Great venue for wine tasting or just a coffee
J.
Perfect place to stop for some wine tasting. Fantastic wines. Grab a spot by the fire in winter to warm up or outside in the sunshine. Delicious platters available so make sure you have one of those.
L.
Not a wine drinker but a day out at this little place made a very welcome change. We tasted wines while there and were introduced to a number of lovely wines we'd never had. Would reccommend to anyone be they wine drinkers or no.
A.
Overpriced, bad service and food just ok. Crowed and not great atmosphere.. They overprice for everything. If the quality was outstanding I wouldn’t mind, but for the quality it is not worth. 35 NZ for a very small portion of vegetarian gnocchi it is just too much. Wine was great though.
L.
Always a great stop. Lovely setting, nice wine and snacks.
S.
Nice place, a bit crowded. Had their Pinot tasting, not very impressed but then Pinot isn't among my favorite grapes.
S.
Great winery with great wines. I love their pinot noirs. If you are running short on time, just go for their $5 wine tasting, sit by the fire place and enjoy the atmosphere.
C.
If you're going to do a winery tour, this would be the one to go to. The wine cave is amazingly unique and a very fun place to do some wine tasting. Goes without saying that the wine is lovely and the harvest platter was well worth the money paid for it. Tour was insightful and very interesting. However, I would suggest going during the summer, to see the grapes in full.
T.
Worth stopping if you are driving past and if you have time which I did not it would be worth taking the tour as you would get to the entire winery. The wine tasting is a must even for someone who does not normally drink wine I found it a fun experience.
P.
Some of my favourite wines during a day of wine tasting in the area. However we almost didn't stay as we were greeted by a shockingly rude french manager. Luckily, we had a young American lady, Emily, do our Wine Cave Tour which really turned the experience around. Great knowledge of the wines and her tour easily made this the most enjoyable stop of the day.
S.
My wife really enjoyed the Pinot, in fact now she is a member. The restaurant served delightful lunch as expected from a fine dining experience. The crowds of bused in tour groups ruined the atmosphere in the tasting room though.
C.
Very patience master of wine introducing their selection of wine available. Must visit their winery caves - worth every penny! 🍷🍷🍷 They have outdoor seating and cheese shop too.. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
M.
Nice set up. Great wine and cheese. Pity for the work being done with heavy machinery in the car park and rude bus loads of tourists. Worth a visit though.
p.
Visited the winery restaurant, which was great. Very friendly staff, great wines and excellent food. Highly recommended.
E.
Nice cave tour with wine tasting, great explanations by Emily! Good service and staff very friendly! The cheese store has a nice atmosphere to have a lunch.
s.
I got the gibston wine sampler as it was trash. If you're going to do wine tasting I'd recommend going to the cheese tasting hut as they give you free cheese tastings and also provide a package with wine, beer, and cheese tasting.
B.
Stopped for a visit and enjoyed tasting their pinot noir. Lovely property with cheese tasting next door. The cheese tasting and descriptions were very on point. The girl did a great job. The winery was ok as well but I expected a better experience since the service was subpar. Took a while to get someone's attention for a tasting when standing at the bar area. Many staff around but no one even gives a hello or tells you they'll be with you soon. Overall the wines were tasty and the cheesery was great.
S.
The wine board I got was really average but the place was set up well and the cheese board was excellent. Nice vibe but not sold on the wine.
B.
Arranged tour directly with the vinyard, all staff were friendly and very helpful, thank you driver Ayato and tour guide Duncan. Great experience, excellent wine and food, fantastic value for money!!
G.
Visited as part of a wine tour, were shown around the cave and had a nice selection of wines to try (as well as some small samples of cheese). Guide was very knowledgeable about the wine and found the tour interesting. Pinot noir was so good. Setting in the valley is gorgeous
A.
The wines and restaurant are actually pretty good but they prioritise their wine and cave tours too much, it's a bit of a tourist trap. Most other wineries talk to you about the wine during the tasting, they just serve you the drinks and hand you a card with descriptive blurbs. The cave is cool but charging people $18 to see where you store your wine is pretty silly. This is free at most other wineries
B.
We had a wonderful tour guide Yolanda! For two people that aren’t even wine drinkers I was so interested to hear about the different processes and precision of wine making. We got to try 6 different wines, and each tester was a generous amount which was awesome! Yolanda was so kind, open, and honestly made the experience wonderful because she was so funny and personable. It felt like she wanted us to have a great time, she even spent an extra 30 minutes doing the tour with us to answer questions and let us take our time trying out the wine. Such a fun afternoon.
Also, we rented bikes from the winery which rounded off the afternoon so well as the Kawarau bungy jumping bridge was only a 45-min return trip!! Highly recommend this.
Also, the cheese platters at the restaurant are delicious!!
C.
We did the cave tour and enjoyed it. The guide was friendly. We tried the Rose, Pinot gris, reisling, and Pinot noir. The reisling was ok but the other wines were too earthy for us. The cheese shop was enjoyable though had limited selection.
F.
Amazing restaurant, great chef and very nice setting. Strongly recommend for a couple night out.
P.
Service, food and wine were above and beyond. Possibly the best confit duck I've ever enjoyed, and our amazing waitress (Bindi) made us feel welcome and valued, and gave us some fantastic advice for the rest of our holiday in the region. Can't recommend Gibbston Valley enough!
M.
It is located in beautiful place. You have Cellar, cafe, giftshop, cheesary, wine tours and also bike rentals for your here. Wine tasting varies from 5$ to 25$.
They have outdoor sitting arrangements. It's really amazing to sit out under color trees in autumn and enjoy, even the view around is beautiful

Stopped by Gibbston for around half an hour. Didn't take the tour but did get to talk to the staff a bit and do a bit of wine tasting. $5 grants you access to 3 wines from the current season. Good tasting wines but prices were high to purchase full bottles, especially directly from the winery (eliminating the middle man - such as a liquor store)
R.
Winery tour, wine tasting and variety of cheese samples were a good experience. Both white and red wines tasted pretty good.
P.
Exceptional food. The flavour from the confit duck with red kumara, chargrilled spring onion and Pinot jus and the baby onion tart blew us away. Wish we lived closer. And Pia - legend!
S.
Good food, good wines, wine tour for NZ$ 18,50 include tasting of wine ! Amazing place
J.
On July 18th we got married, and had our reception/stayed at GV Winery for the weekend. GV Winery made this experience more than we could have ever dreamed of. Kat, Trina and the rest of the GV team were incredible. Made us feel very special and were extremely accommodating and helpful. The venue is beautiful, the service was impeccable the whole time, and the Villas are luxury! The food and wine was delicious 🙌 Would recommend 1000%
A.
Thoroughly enjoyed a Harvest Platter and a glass of Pinot Noir with my daughter. The food was so tasty. The staff were really efficient and helpful. Nice and light interior.
A.
Great wine, great surroundings, great service, great food. Definitely try the duck. Best duck I've ever had.
R.
Always a great experience at Gibbston Valley Winery.
Great food /wine and Service.

In A Nutshell:
-Gibbston Valley Winery was just okay.
-I tried their $5 pinot noir's (2 of them) & rosé flight but was impressed.
-I thought each wine tasted average.
-The property is a decent size, felt crowded at times.
Overall, I would recommend trying other wineries.
S.
Absolutely outstanding accommodation. Beautifully appointed villas with all the luxarys and the staff/service was exceptional. The villas were warm and toasty (infact sometimes a little too warm overnight, even with the heating off and -4 outside!). We had 3 nights here and wish we could have stayed longer. The breakfast each morning was delicious, with a range continental and cooked options. The barista coffee was great. The pre dinner wine tastings were very informative, we especially enjoyed it when Chris the winemaker joined us around the fireplace. 5 stars from us, and hopefully one day we can come back!
C.
Comfortable and spacious tasting bar and sitting area. Restaurant too (but we Didn't eat there). The fleet of wines we tried were all really lovely. Surprised that I enjoyed the Rose so much, as I am not a usual fan. Enjoyed my chardonnay and SB. And of course the pinot noirs were fantastic. The staff was very sweet and knew her wines.
Gibbston Valley has a cheesery and gift shop right next door. Had a quick pop into both and enjoyed a sample.or two of cheese. Yummy.
Well worth the visit.
J.
Staff was friendly, generous tasting pours, wine was good, nice indoor and outdoor seating with good ambiance
D.
Although I missed the restaurant's opening hours, the snacks at the bar are also great and it is a beautiful winery.
C.
we didn't book online but headed to the information centre to get ourselves a 2pm winery & wine cave tour. While booking, we heard mixed reviews but went ahead anyway.
I have to say the only upsetting part of the entire tour is us going off season. It would've been fabulous to be able to see active vines but they were sleeping in the winter. On the other hand, our guide Coco was amazing! She was passionate about what she's talking and clearly knowledgeable as well (at least for us casual wine drinkers).
Very enjoyable visit we had, highly recommend :)
A.
A little confusing...a lot of staff bustling about. But had a cheese tasting platter which was very minimal and a bottle of wine.
A.
The meal matched with wines was excellent. The wine cellar has a good range.
C.
Great experience and affordable ..... friendly staff and very knowledgeable ..... Thank you Emily for making our tour special..... we enjoyed every moment and will be back for more .....
J.
This was our first stop on our self drive through Otaga. We had to pull ourselves away - we could have spent all day here. The food at their restaurant is delicious. Service was also warm and friendly. My husband had their steak and I had the cioppino - super yummy. They have a cheesery on the same lot - we had a delicious cheese board for dessert along with a glass of wine. Their wine was good as well. Their vintage rose is super unique with a layered flavor profile. Recommend!
C.
Did the wine tour which includes a peak into the wine cave where they store and age their wine. The on-site store next door has a nice selection of cheese and meats that you can purchase for a picnic on the grounds.
B.
Need to have the heating working. Very cold and staff wearing puffer jackets while they work. Need to show more effort post covid to get people in
Food was good.
C.
Yolanda was an exceptional host for the winery/cave tour. Couldn’t recommend enough.
T.
Awesome Winery tour, have delicious meal and on the way to Wanaka via highway 6
R.
Excellent experience as far the Wine Tasting is concerned. Very knowledgeable presentation by Alex.
M.
Great food and wine and fantastic service thanks to Bindy for making our birthday celebration so cool
H.
The wines were a let down after seeing so much advertisement for Gibbston Valley. We tasted 6 different and didn’t particularly fall in love with any. Also weird that they don’t allow you to eat the cheese both next door (from their cheesery) with the wine you’re tasting.
M.
An excellent and informative tour. The Pinot Gris was very good.
P.
Wonderful surroundings, friendly staff, pleasant wines and delicious cuisine. A must.
S.
Quite the treat. Nice place and facilities, but don't expect a free tasting here. Which I thought was odd.
A.
Some of the best wines of the region. Great Pinot Noir and you have to try the Desert wine.
J.
Best winery tour experience I've ever had, thank you so much.
N.
Consistently impressed with this place, we have eaten here a few times when we have been down in Queenstown and always had an excellent experience.
G.
The home made cheese plater was simple remarkable. Paired with some wines - culinary heaven I must say
M.
The new Gibbston Valley Lodge is just stunning! Beautiful stay amongst the vines, a wine lovers oasis. Incredible new lodge building and tastefully elegant villas. Trust the Chef he certainly knows what he is doing!
H.
One of my favourite winery experiences in Queenstown - magical experience in the wine cave for tasting. The cheesery had good cheese picnic options which you can taste and the chocolate and gift shop, restaurant is limited in menu but great food and way to experience some extra wine after tastings :)
Get it delivered to Sydney every few months and it's worth it!!
J.
Yalanda was such an incredible host and server. My partner and I had the perfect experience
M.
Amazing food. Amazing service. And beautiful setting. Best time.
A.
Incredible food. Rabbit lasagna and salmon were seriously good.
z.
ok but the restaurant food is very overpriced for what it is. my fish/seafood stew today had more potato than fish in it, and the same with the octopus salad. wouldnt go back.
s.
Attended concerts here for the past 5 years and they are absolutely fantastic! Great venue with gorgeous scenery.
T.
A most amazing experience with the best service in the area. You do not want to miss out on the wine cave tour! Emily from Colorado rocks this tour with her passion knowledge and friendly manner. The food by Chef Anthony Gradisky is Devine, the menu is entirely holistic with every dish from the starters through the mains to the desserts being complimentary to each other. Thank you to Trish and Nick for their excellence in service, good knowledge of the dishes and their friendly manner. Oh and course the wines...magnificent! A great way to spend a day or an afternoon while visiting Central Otago.
W.
Really nice food and wine, enjoy our time here.
B.
Great chessery and deli shop with beautiful Pinot Gris to match.
A.
Absolutely fantastic experience, good service and incredible food. Would recommend to anyone.
S.
I was absolutely blown away by their new Lodge & Spa, above and beyond anything I could have anticipated!
Their attention to detail, the quality of the fixtures and fittings, the landscaped gardens and billowing stream make for a truely special stay.
The Spa is serene and inviting, a credit to Frances and Daiana who have created a wonderful environment and provide the most amazing massages!
B.
Fantastic Wines. The cave is a big attraction.
S.
Great wine tasting
And very nice winery
C.
October 2014
if you like wine, best ideia do go and see how they are stored and made
F.
Fantastic venue lovely food
E.
Lovely setting, atmosphere and great service. Enjoyed the food but no Heineken.
J.
Big winery in Central Otago which offers wide range of wines, starting from Resling, Pilot Gris up to Pinot Noir. Wine tasting costs $5 for 3 bottles up to $15 for more bottles. Friendly staffs. The wine quality is good, however nothing spectacular in term of taste. The Riesling is almost one of the weakest, taste more like German sour Riesling wine rather than beautiful New Zealand flowery Riesling with full characters and body. Bottle wine prices are relatively expensive and not worth for the money in comparison to other wineries such as Black Ridge with its exclusive wine tastes. The winery has a restaurant and the food is very good. Worth to try out, except beware of 15% surcharge for national holiday.
L.
Really enjoyed the cave tour!
K.
Possibly the best lunch I've had in a while.
The roast chicken made the whole meal; incredibly well made and seasoned.
Other dishes such as the pork terrine, pork cheeks, roasted vegetables, cauliflower grain and blue cod ciopinno were great as well.
But that chicken. So good.
Personally, the B95 Chardonnay was well matched, as well as the recommended pinot noir.
c.
Great wines and food. Another winery to put on the must do list
V.
Good place to go if you visit Queenstown.
S.
The best winery in Queenstown. Personally I thought the winery scene in Waiheke was much better because you have water views. Wine tour was cheap... around $17NZD. Tour included cave + vineyard with 4 tasting glasses. Flights after were $12NZD. Taxi from town was $109NZD. Overall it was a great rainy day activity and daily cheap minus the transport out there.
K.
Great wine, One of the best in nz.
H.
Food is fantastic and the place is beautiful. Highly recommended.
J.
Beautiful rooms and facilities , staff very friendly, professional and accomodating.

K.
Really friendly and helpful staff, very relaxing and enjoyable!
K.
Enjoyed the cheese and wine tasting here!
D.
Great cheeses and wine in a cozy setting.
C.
We had an informative wine tasting followed by a beautiful lunch here while cycling on the Queenstown trails. We chose the set menu and had the free range chicken and the fish dish for mains. These both had amazing source's that I can't describe - you will have to try them. The rabbit lasagna starter was mouthwatering....
This would have been a 5 star review apart from the request for a tip on the bill. NZ is not a tipping culture, instead employees are paid and treated properly by their employers. Please let's not seen our culture eroded by unsavory foriegn practices.
D.
Stunning setting, stunning wine stunning food.
J.
Great place to taste wine and variety of cheeses
J.

(Translated) I like it very much. The outdoor environment is beautiful. The prices of the food are reasonable. The most important thing is that the taste is great. Even people who don't like western food with my wife and I can accept it. Highly recommended

(Translated) Central Otago is another wine region in New Zealand. Wonderful wines have been grown in this area since the 1980s. Gibbston is one of the larger wineries. Correspondingly, buses with tourists come and of course the prices went up. If you are familiar with this area, if you want to go to one of the smaller fine winegrowers, unless you want to eat, then you can do something good for yourself in the restaurant.

(Translated) The tour is very short and going there just to do it I think it doesn't pay. If you take the lunch package it looks spectacular. Excellent dishes with perfectly matching wines. If you want to have all the menu options (and pay a little more) do not close the package and pay for lunch + wines separately. The lunch package restricts the dishes to 3 options on the menu.
(Original)

(Translated) Looking at the Internet and travel books, I also recommend this winery. We originally thought of this winery for lunch. There was no appointment because time was too late.
But on arrival, business was good. The seats in the store are almost full.
Not quite as expected. I think the winery should be behind a large forest. This winery doesn't look very good. If the car is driving too fast, it will really ignore it. Next to where cheese is sold. I wonder if it is chained by the same boss.
We want to taste a set of wine. A set of tasting is six wine glasses, which is equivalent to six different wines.
The waiter didn't have time to greet us and just asked us to find a seat for ourselves. We originally found a seat, but we were robbed by crooks and wanted to drive us out. Is this racial discrimination? The first time I saw an unfriendly crooked country woman. It doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
Because then we have no consumption.
