P. O.We live in Ashburton and have been to the museum before, there is always fantastic art that change's regularly. The latest artists in at the moment are so talented. We thoroughly enjoyed it all.
J. R.Purpose built building. The outside is rather plain and doesnt necessarily enthuse you. The inside is fresh and modern. This is a great museum if you want to know the heritage of Ashburton, it was well presented. Themed displays covering the history. What was impressive was the Wall of Photos a mixture of new faces and old faces and the video of the struggles suffered by other cultures in moving to Ashburton. Well done - this provided a lot of insight. I was also impressed by the modern display - celebrating NZ radio - 'Sounds like Us' and in the childrens area - you could actually make your own paper radio and decorate it - everything supplied. What a fantastic idea. There was some interactive parts in the museum.
This is a free museum. Donations welcome.
Parking available all around the building.
The only downside is it is closed on Public Holidays, which is a shame.
R. K.Great museum for learning about the history of the local area. Well layed out displays and a play area for the kids. We saw the knitted garden which was very clever.
