Reviews of Maungauika/North Head Historic Reserve
F.
It's a wonderful location. You get to see the lovely Auckland city skyline. Lovely place to visit with family and children. It's also a historic site with tunnels and plenty of play area for children. The views are stunning both day and night. I usually visit for a picnic on the weekends. If you don't have a vehicle, you can get a ferry from the city to Devonport. Parking 🅿️ facilities available. Toilet 🚻 facilities available. Very clean and we'll maintained. Lovely little town nearby and you get everything from restaurants, grocery stores, museum, library and many more. I recommend you to visit this lovely place if you are in Auckland.
R.
Stunning view of Auckland CBD, nice track. Learn history of WW2 from this place. Half day well spent here. Awesome
I.
Awesome free lookout near Devonport. If you’re visiting Auckland, would recommend as a must see. Tunnels, cannons, they got the lot! Parking on site, short walk up to the lookout. Grass and facilities all maintained very well.

Ooo the boy in me will always love old and creepily dark war tunnels and gun emplacements. This tip of Devonport / North Head offers stunning views of the city, water, and Rangitoto for those not willing to venue below the surface. I was quite pleasantly surprised that some of these tunnels literally need a torch if you're not keen to just walk in near total darkness depending on the time of day. Great sunset watching hill too by the way. Definitely worth checking it out as one of the most interesting city hiking areas.
M.
Awesome historic site. Great views across all directions of the harbour on a good day.
Take the family exploring the tunnels or just stroll the path around the point.
O.

Have been meaning to visit here for a while. Well worth spending time wandering around the tunnels and rooms and imagining what life what have been like here during it's heyday. The rooms are labelled to show what once took place in them.
There are gun pits above ground with lots of great places to have a picnic and enjoy the vista of Auckland.
Only downside is the limited onsite parking, but being close to residential streets the additional walk will only be a benefit.
B.
This is a fun area to walk around and explore. Bring a small light to really go deep into the tunnels. Do the whole walk and see the full bunker. A little cleaning and maintenance to restore would make this a much better, and must see stop.
B.
Beautiful views from Auckland City right around to Rangitoto Island and northwards. Clean and green, plenty of historic hiding places. Lovely spot for a walk, and maybe even spot a pod of dolphins or orca if you're lucky.
N.
Stunning views and interesting tunnels
J.
Such an awesome place to explore!
A.
A nice tunnels run underneath the north head hill, and used to serve as one of New Zealand defence stronghold. Although its no longer used for its original purpose, after being strengthen it is now used as a tourist attraction; despite part of the tunnels are left un-paved and without ligths. So it's best to explore the tunnels during the day and equipped yourself with torches.
M.
Beautiful area with spending a day there

Excellent place to visit in Auckland. To reach this place you have to get a ferry form Bitomart, it will take 12 - 15 min to reach this place. It has many historic military locations to explorer.

A brilliant historic site which has been well preserved and the tunnels are super fun to explore! It's a great day trip to make, with great views of the CBD and harbour as well.

Great day. Awesome view. Tunnels were cool. Not too many peo9le but parking was limited so go up early
N.
Great place to view the skyline and relax in nature. Unfortunately the tunnels were closed due to maintenance.
j.
Best views over Auckland and full of interesting things to do. On a beautifully clear day it would be a shame not to give this place a visit
J.
A quiet place to sit and watch the waterway traffic, clouds passing by, quail families gossiping. Paths not well marked or signed and some rubbish from non-thinkers. Sense of history.
C.
A great place to explore (remember walking shoes) and relax. Great spots at the top and around to picnic. Worth a visit.
K.
Not only are there awesome views of Auckland city and the surrounding islands, but there are tunnels to explore! TUNNELS!! You'll need the torch light on your phone as the tunnels are very dark.

(Translated) Great sights, cannons to see, trails to go (the scenery is great along the way), the car can also be driven directly to the top. There are large grass fields and lots of slopes, so it is suitable for playing grass, (some people will bring cardboard to play).
(Original)
很棒的景點,有大砲可以看,有步道可以走(沿途風景很棒),車子也可以直接開到最上面。有大片草地,有很多斜坡,所以適合玩滑草,(有人會帶厚紙板來玩)。

(Translated) A wonderful call! The view to the Bay is beautiful, but beware of the tunnels. They are dark, with some holes and slippery. There is no danger of violence, just care. Take a flashlight if your phone doesn't have one. Walk through everything, it is very worth the visit!
