Reviews of The Wallace Arts Centre, Pah Homestead
T.
This Gallery is insane! The building itself is yellow and beautiful. It frequently changes the exhibitions. sometimes you can see this which can blow your minds, love it. The only disadvantage is many exhibitions lack detailed introduction.
A.
Great place to be here either by yourself or with family or friends. Beautiful sculptures, lovely cafe and Monte Cecilia park for a nice walk. Cafe's outside seating arrangement is awesome. Coming back again very soon. Great ambience ❤️
J.
I don't know anything about art, but I had a lovely time exploring the TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre, checking out their art, sculptures, and installations. Many of the things I didn't understand, but I liked wondering what the artist may have been thinking or feeling when s/he created their work.
It sits within the Monte Cecilia Park, which has awesome walking trails, beautiful aged trees, and benches. Great for a picnic! There is a spectacular view all the way to One Tree Hill.
The Pah Homestead is beautiful, with a good café. I ordered a carrot cake and coffee. Unfortunately it took quite long to come, and the coffee was cold when I had it.
It's a great day for relaxing, and possibly expanding your mind
O.
Beautiful gallery, I had a good time here
D.
Beautiful gallery. Took our 5 yo for a art club they host monthly. It was a lovely evening. They have a nice Cafe to try a cuppa.
N.
Went with a bus group . Interesting arts indoors. Out door arts quite interesting. Guide spoke of artworks which I missed., so I can't make comment on that. I would a thought a rundown of the history of the building as we arrived would have been helpful . However, still worth a look.
d.
We held a great friends Christmas picnic here - great green established tree park - and easy access to coffee 😉
H.
The Wallace Arts Centre is one of my exciting cultural destinations in Auckland. Located in the historic Pah Homestead in Monte Cecilia Park, Hillsborough, the diverse contemporary art exhibitions gave me inspiration and motivation to experience my own art style.
A.
What a beautiful place! I was walking around the park and saw this amazing place during lockdown. I will come back again when lockdown ends to see the beautiful art <3
M.
This stop was one of my favorites during my recent trip to Auckland! The Pah Homestead house is beautiful and the artwork was interesting and enjoyable. I had tea and date scones with one of the friends I was visiting. The servers were friendly and kind.
The gardens around the house are full of wonderful sculptures! Every corner I turned brought a new view.
R.
Go for lunch or a coffee, walk around the art gallery, there is a sculpture garden outside and if there weather is good it is set in a wider park that you can walk around,
When we went it was a textile exhibition, not something I'm interested in and a photography exhibition which was interesting, i noticed a lift up to the main gallery so access for all should not be a problem. Food and coffee where nice, but my favorite thing was the sculpture garden
D.
Brilliant. lovely park , views , cafe , art , setting ...A gem....Update Jan 2020, still fantastic grounds, displays, photos etc, feel like the cafe is a letdown, bored, young, disinterested staff who hardly as was the case today look up at you to take your order. Latte was not even lukewarm. They are closed Monday btw. Staff in guest shop consistently pleasant!
Z.
Definitely worth a visit. The art displayed is diverse enough for most people to find something to enjoy, be inspired by. I enjoyed the "artists in residence" series which gave great back story and insights to the creative results. Perfect location in the Pah Homestead surround by the gardens.
P.
Amazing house, most of the art wasn't really my thing, still cant get my head around the modern stuff, sculpture outside I did like. Cafe was good and the grounds are huge. Recommended
J.
Art, park and fantastic food. The wait can be a bit long but it’s the right setting to just relax and not be rushed.
M.
Beautiful building and grounds with some exciting art inside. There's also a nice café for a coffee here (meals a bit small).
S.
This place is great, amazing art, great atmosphere & its free, there is so much to see, its also warm inside i thought it was going to be big & cold like most art museums, tho on the contrary its lovely, great layout, & there is a cafe too, highly recommend this place, the views of the city are also stunning
M.
The staff are always so lovely and prompt with orders! I felt really looked after and my friends were well catered to with vegan/vegetarian food and alternative milks! Even when it's super busy on the weekend it was still top quality service! I'd recommend this place to anyone :)
A.
Went here for a midweek lunch with my wife. What a fantastic place that really deserves to be discovered by more Aucklanders. Amazing art pices and sculptures around well maintained grounds
Food and services was both of a very high standard can't recommend this place as a must visit.
A.
This is a lovely historic place to visit. The tearooms are gorgeous with lots of lovely cakes. There is artwork exhibitions in the building and the garden area has sculptures. Take your Mum here. She will love it. ❤️
J.
Great place for a coffee,- a picnic or a simple walk in a lovely park and gardens.
K.
We went to see "The Importance of Being Earnest" live theatre outside using the verandahs and classic doors as entry ways. The setting was superb for this classic theatre piece, the quality of the acting outstanding and the service and care of the ushers for us sitting outside in the Summer twilight most comforting providing each of us with a blanket to use. I am hoping there will be more such delightful theatre in the future.
B.
An excellent range of art exhibitions, changing regularly - monthly or bimonthly.
J.
Nice and relaxed getaway from the city with a lot of history and art.
P.
I love the Wallace Centre, the buildings the constantly changing exhibitions and the grounds, the nice cafe with it's incredible decor, the charming little shop not to forget the very classy toilets!
J.
Always an Auckland highlight, with current exhibitions by Bill Hammond and Susan Te Kahurangi King
S.
Beautiful and extremely well maintained venue. Very interesting artifacts and interestingly displayed. Unfortunately the coffee machine had broken down and several patrons were a tad disappointed to be deprived of a hot coffee/beverage on a cold evening
S.
This place is great with a toddler as the garden is enclosed.
A.
Awesome place in central Auckland with nice gallery, walk and a cafe.
D.
Wow haven't been here for a.bout 4 years, Banksie opened this renovated place in August 2010. Had to take a pic of the awesome lavatory & me next to Terry Stringer's 1984 Tongan Boy up on the landing.
b.
Really cool sculptures in their outdoor garden and really interesting paintings inside. They have this really cool 3D projection upstairs it's amazing
C.
The gallery is excellent as always, the cafe not so good this visit, a bit average compared to previous visits.
K.
I visit the Pah Homestead often and each time I am blown away by the diversity of art on display. Both inside and out there is a tantalizing aray of exhibits which changes on a regular basis. The licensed l cafe offers a range of light food which is well priced and adequate and the adjacent park is stunning. Certainly well worth a visit.
C.
This place is fantastic. They change their collection every six weeks so you can always appreciate good art multiple times throughout the year
A.
Beautiful homestead hosting unique artist displays. I visited whilst they were hosting a Sam Foley exhibit and it was amazing. The cafe offers great food and one of Auckland's best secret parks is situated behind the Arts Center.
T.
Wonderful parkland setting with mature trees and beautiful views. Many walking tracks to enjoy. Will be coming again as soon as I can. Have seen the Wallace Art collection at its previous location in Epsom but will also ho inside this beautiful mansion house to see it soon
L.
Such a great place to visit with a toddler. Our daughter loved looking at one of the current exhibitions, exploring the building and looking at the sculpture garden. There are also park-like gardens for them to run around in and outdoor seats at the cafe so you can let them loose for a bit while you eat.
B.
Always a joy to behold. The photography show was entertaining and the art insightful. Rode to the event on a Sunday. Parked bicycles onsite, thanks for that.
Omg lunch menu was so good, lots of treats to temp even the fussyest of dinners. I could only fault the temperature of the coffee so not a big deal. The staff were all so friendly. Was also informed of future shows starting this Tuesday and running for 6 weeks . The new zealand version of banksy who has returned from studying in Berlin for the last decade. Look so forwards to attending this in a few weeks time. Might see you there...
N.
Lovely place to wander and view contemporary art. Free entry.
A.
Nice easy park walk sculptures art gallery to view. Good views.
S.
Lovely backdrop for a gallery. Cafe on site but didnt try it. Good parking. Not busy at 2pm on a Saturday. Take your walki g shoes and go for a walk. Lovely views over Manukau harbour. Bathrooms clean and plenty. Enjoyed my first visit here.
F.
Had a wonderful brunch on the way to the airport! We were seated outside on the verandah with a lovely view of the gardens. The coffee was good, albeit a little small, and the food was well cooked, delicious and we felt, good value for money. Looking forward to going back!
R.
The long gallery looks closed lights are off you need to know this for it has auto lights. What a shame my group had moved out of the building by then. They should have at least a pilot light on ?
T.
Go there it's a cool day out , take a picnic lunch , old garden to enjoy. It has a cafe , big place , really interesting and the staff where really friendly
K.
Good coffee, interesting menu, friendly staff. Nice to able to have access to the art gallery
C.
Took my Dad here when he came to visit. We were both completely in awe with the house and its history.
The art is interesting and the cafe is lovely. Worth a visit!
V.
Awesome gallery. Very good indoor and outdoor setup. Long Gallery is a must see with contemporary exhibitions updated every couple months. Our go-to place on a rainy day.
G.
We hired the homestead for our 20th wedding anniversary and the service and food was fantastic. So welcoming and obliging.
We have been here on previous occasions for coffee and lunch and it is one of Aucklands hidden treasures.
B.
Love the area, the building, the walkways, the green, the trees... There are even bunnies hopping around :)
E.
Awesome historic house with a great art collection and beautiful grounds
C.
Smallish gallery, came here primarily to visit the cafe, but do enjoy the art here as well. Very good Cafe with reasonable prices. Had an excellent cheese platter.
E.
Facinating exhibitions, The Family treee exhibition in the Long Room bought to mind the Australian Aboriginal Art and Yayoi Kusama.from Japan.
S.
One of Aucklands best kept secrets. Beautiful park. Restaurant for first class breakfast lunch etc & an art gallery most interesting. What more can I say.
J.
The gallery and grounds are gorgeous. The offering in the cafe is not extensive but what is on offer is good. I overheard staff telling another customer that renovations are taking place February 2016.
A.
A very nice place to walk around for the elderly
S.
The TSB Wallace Gallery is superb. Excellent retrospectives partnered with outstanding emergent talent. Set in rolling Park setting with Cafe and sculpture garden, it is an Auckland treasure.
L.
The art is an acquired taste. The request for a $5 donation is a bit rich. The place is heavily subsidised by Auckland Council, I.e. Your rates!! Cafe food was nice.
J.
What a fabulous outing! Beautiful building full of interesting art, gorgeous garden/sculpture walk topped off with delicious lunch in the cafe. Highly recommended.
H.
Fabulous place. Cafe nice. Staff awesome.

C.
Nice Park, established trees. Dogs on leash. Didn't go into the arts centre.
S.
Some fantastic examples of NZ art. Thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition of Fred Renata's films and thr chance to see some of his short films in their entirety.
B.
Art gallery was great. Disappointed with the Cafe/restaurant not the food it was excellent but table service etc let it down. It's not the cheapest place to go to so you expect better service maybe a off day that we went. Will give it another go.
N.
Some of the art is great other bits are so so but that obviously is subjective. Cafe is nothing startling.
M.
Big ol' homestead on a rise with good views. Full of art, gardens with more sculptures etc, cafe with inside/verandah seating. Even good just to walk the grounds and look at the big ol' trees.
V.
Beautiful historic homestead, interesting collections
M.

Simple good food and coffee in a beautiful surroundings... space garden art sculpture, art displays

(Translated) 🌃 There is a small park near my home, and I saw it on the map by chance. Located in the Central District, 🚗Fuel friendly, ample parking spaces, good parking~
·
💐When I first came here, the museum was not open, but the garden was huge, 🌱 undulating lawns, 🌳 vigorous banyan trees, 🌸 wild flowers swaying in the wind, all of which are good backgrounds for taking pictures.
·
🐶 And this is a dog friendly park. 🧺 Picnic on the grass is also a good choice.
In addition, behind a banyan tree, there is someone who is full of childlike innocence and built a small tent with branches, which is very cute. ⛺️
·
🌝 Later, I saw that the museum was open. I went in and visited while the weather was good. It is divided into two parts, indoor and outdoor. 💰 Free
·
📍There are several recommended places to shoot indoors, piano, stairs, Tiffany blue toilet on the second floor, dreamy lighting, window border view.
·
📍There are many outdoor sculptures, you can play as you like. The weather was good that day, and the clothes I wore were a little dark. I recommend everyone to wear a skirt with higher saturation.
(Original)
