I don't know why I have always just driven past and never stopped in here. However today 08/02/21 my self and the family decided on a visit.
What great little museum.
Loads of information and things to look at.
A hidden gem in Bluff which I would highly recommend.

Great staff on reception, an interesting museum with a wide range of history, maritime and people....with awesome displays....well worth going....

This is a smallish maritime museum size wise, but it has managed to cram in quite a collection of exhibits. Car Parking is free and entry is only $3 for adults. The lady at the counter was super friendly (as is everyone in Southland) and the exhibits were very wide ranging. It even covered a NZ soldier executed by the British (by firing squad) who was later pardoned (posthumously). There are torpedoes, missiles, a huge merchant steam engine, etc. Worth a visit if you are down in Bluff.

Nice displays and lots to see maybe not the best for little children but still worth a look

Very affordable. Full of really interesting notes about whaling, oyster farming and navy stuff. Some signs were a bit faded and outdated and the air was a little hard for me to breathe but on the whole a delight. Great for an afternoon trip.

This was s great discovery and specially in a day when nearly everything else was closed. Fantastic history and exhibits. The whale jaw is huge!

Well worth the 5 dollars to go and see the Bluff Maritime history!!!

Always worth a visit to check out local history. Some really cool wooden boats.

Great museum and for $3 you can’t go wrong! They talk about a variety of things in clear and concise ways!

Neat little spot for 3 dollars. Had many more exhibits than I expected, and a boat outside to explore.

Very interesting and well worth a pop in front $5 entry fee

Very interesting, mainly about New Zealands Navy.
Lots of reading.

An interesting collection of items however a common story or theme - other than simply the ocean - was lacking. This means it'ss amazing for someone who has a real passion for the sea, but is not as engaging for the average traveler just wanting to learn or interact.

Interesting and well presented maritime museum

Good little maritime museum. Enjoyed the video on bringing back the mutton birds on Stewart and other islands. Lots to look at.

This place rocks. It has lots of cool exhibits crammed into a small space, and even has a chunk of captain cook's ship. Additionally, there is a steam engine inside you can walk up and around, which is unfathomably cool. Make sure to visit the Monica outside and to go below deck to smell the authentic grease and fuel oil smell of the engine room. I will be back for sure.

Great little museum I learnt a ton of stuff about Bluff harbour. Well kept and updated and a very reasonable entry fee. Well worth the visit. I would say allow for 1:30 to go through and absorb the displays. The tug boat steam engine is really special.

The Bluff Maritime Museum is a really interesting venue to experience the early Southland spirit. Small in floor area it is a sound reminder of the early spirit of Southland. The shipping that came through the Port was broad and by no means minor and as can be seen. The visit would be enhanced by some "host commentary" being available. Well done to the original planners however, little touch ups here and there could be beneficial to the overall presentation.

I have always thought museums are a historical treasure trove. Bluff is no different, especially for those like me that know nothing of bluffs maritime history. Well worth a stop while going to the point.

I really rate this museum, not only for the history that it contains, but also for the variety of exhibits it holds. It is well worth the small entry charge to view it's varied collection.
Many of the exhibits are interactive, such as the working engine, the old parts of the NZ Navy ship Southland, including the gun mounted outside that pivots and moves in different directions.
The old fishing boat Monica, which can accessed via the museum gives a view of how fishing used to be.
One of the best museums in Southland.

super cool little museum at Bluff.
I wasn't expecting to see so many things in here - but it turned out to be a very nice suprise. I learned how marine triple-expansion engines look like and history of the bluff aluminum smelter.
By the way, they have a fishing boat that you can climb into it and see what a fisher's life is like.

(Translated) A beautiful little museum in this small town, very south of the NZ. You will know everything about collecting oysters in Bluff before going to taste them.
(Original)
Un beau petit musée dans cette petite ville, tout à fait au Sud de la NZ. Vous saurez tout sur le ramassage des huîtres à Bluff avant d'aller en déguster.
