Reviews of Christchurch Gondola
C.
We liked it overall, the view is undoubtedly mind blowing, staffs members are nice and friendly, it wasn’t crowded when we were there which was nice. However we eventually missed the complementary discovery ride because we weren’t informed the whole site closes at 4:30 and the discovery ride closes at 4 until the last minute, I guess it’s mainly our own fault that we didn’t check the operation hours, we just didn’t expect it to close so early, but I feel we could use some better and earlier notifications, especially we just got up there at 3pm.
B.
Had never been on them before and I hardly gone in the Trams a week before and learned that you can get a year pass to both attractions I had to get it. Was lots of fun and I enjoyed the trip. The view from the top is quite spectacular. I had some lunch at the top. I ordered the chicken burger with chips. It was really good.
N.
Amazing views, definitely a place to visit when the sky is clear. Great food and drinks available once you reach the top. And a free photo download, I wish we were able to choose the photo.
C.
Stunning day to go up the Gondola and we weren't disappointed. The views were spectacular.. The snow capped mountains, the harbour and sea views were outstanding. Great gift shop, the Time Tunnel ride was really well done and the cafe had great food. A must do if visiting or even living in Christchurch.
S.
Nice views of Christchurch, but the ride wasn't really good, its very hot inside the Gondola
R.
love the ride down but going up was freaking and alot higher then i imagine, took my two boys while the dad run the track for his daily exercise!but we love it❤️❤️❤️nice day nice view was perfect 🥰🥰
C.
Very fun. Once you get to the top you have a great view. The cold chocolates they serve are very nice. The time tunnel was surprised good. I also got my friend a knife from the gift shop.
L.
Beautiful views over Christchurch city and beyond. If you are lucky enough to be in the city on a nice day definitely take advantage of these views.
B.
Thoroughly enjoyed the ride and the whole experience up at the top. Great view, great food from the cafe. 100% refreshing for the whole family.
The time tunnel experience was a bit shorter than expected but still good.
C.
Great place to visit as a tourist. Amazing views and the ride was amazing! Really nice gift shop as well.
M.
A sunny boxing day ride to a beautiful over view of Christchurch and surrounding area. Great time out with Brody and Alex.
D.
A fun ride with great views on a nice day.
Looking forward to next time.
R.
I bought the annual family pass and what a bargain! I can swing by with the kids at a whim, go for a gondola ride up the hill and grab breakfast, lunch or just a coffee while enjoying one of the best views in Christchurch. And if you feel like a walk there are tracks aplenty at the top.
N.
My daughter and I walked up the Bridle path then got a well deserved lunch at the cafe and took the gondola back down. The staff are absolutely fantastic and really make it a pleasure to visit each time we go. As a local I highly recommend getting a year pass and going heaps. Love the place, love the experience, love the customer service, your staff are the best.
S.
Took granddaughter on the gondola last weekend. A great experience, fabulous views of Chch from the mountains to the sea and also Lyttelton harbour. Highly recommended.
J.
Brilliant!! Great view, and the christchurch history ride under the restaurant was fun too.
G.
A great day at this attraction. The gift shop has a good range of products and the cafe had good cafe food, desserts and drinks. Very reasonable price for the ride up and cost of food at cafe. The view from the top is breathtakingly good. A must-do when visiting Christchurch.
V.
Thoroughly enjoyed. On a clear day you can see quite far a 360 of the Canterbury District. Evidence of the plain that stretches North to South, and East to West. Great restaurant at the top with good variety. Gift shop has plenty of options.
E.
This is the best view lookout over Christchurch, its surrounding eg Lyttelton Harbour, Banks Peninsula, the Chch CBD, & the Southern Alps by far. It’s on Mt Cavendish & via Summit Rd from east to west you can have a very pleasant driving/cycling/hiking experience. I’ll say this is the landmark tourist attraction of Chch & it’s strongly recommended
V.
Had a great experience here with friends. The giftshop seemed pretty good. The restaurant did wonderful snapper n chips. Meals are big and good to be shared.
Ride up in the gondola had breath taking views . Time tunnel was included in our ticket too and was very much enjoyed by all, very informative.
. The sun was out and we were able to click great pics.
M.
Fantastic view 360degrees and Discovery ride was very good too. And cafe is modest price and tasted good.
E.
One of those attractions that appeal to children and adults alike. Kids love riding in the gondola and adults love enjoying the view at the top (whether outside of from the cafe)
H.
Beautiful views and a Christchurch resident discount. Loved going outside and walking around checking out Christchurch from all angles. Watching a hand glider run off the hill was a highlight.
N.
Amazing views. Coffee shop at the top and a few walks to do around. They have a little 7-8mins ride in a tunnel which is like a little guided tour through Christchurch history
T.
Beautiful view of the Christchurch city and Taylors mistake from up top.
K.
Amazing views and loved the little time portal ride. All staff amazing and friendly. Recommend anyone to do great value.
J.
Really pretty views from the top. Also liked that you got the history ride for free with your gondola ticket at the top
E.
The view are fantastic! Less clouds would have been preferred, but the weather does it's own thing. We also had lunch. The portion are ample and the food well prepared.
E.
I love it!!!
Particularly the view from the peak, amazingly stunning.
Very safe gondola, 360 degree view
Observation deck at the peak, overlook the harbour with bare eyes.
Very worthy to experience
S.
Love what I saw up there. My friend took me! It is such a beautiful place in Christchurch. It has 360 view around the mountain and back to the city. I would recommend this to people who are visiting to Christchurch. There is a shop up there. The city at night view is very beautiful. Beware of cold weather too!
R.
I LOVE the view and the ride on the gondola is spectacular! It has a great cafe and information around the building and has great photo opportunities. I highly recommend the time tunnel there has been so much effort put into it. Also the gift shop is pretty good and has a lot of things to buy but is a little expensive for me. I haven’t been to the newer restaurant but I’ve heard great things about it. 👍🏻
L.
The ride up took about 7 minutes, with stunning views the whole time. The gift shop had a good variety. The cafe was a bit expensive, and had an ok menu. The Time Tunnel was a gentle, educational ride, which told us a brief history of the Bank's Peninsula.
J.
Great place to stop and get an idea of how big Christchurch really is. Great 360 views of the Harbour. Smooth ride up really easy to get on and off.
J.
Amazing views. Definitely recommend if you would like to see Christchurch and Littleton from a different prospective.
P.
Stunning views, great experience.
J.
Really great and fun place to be with family for a weekend or holiday gateaway.
Tho the platter seafood is really huge and delicious too! The tunnel would take 30 minutes to wait so didnt go for it with little kids cannot wait. So far really great views too to Lyttelton and the Christchurch City
W.
Absolutely awesome!!! Fantastic views of Christchurch and Lyttleton Harbour and very reasonable rates at $30 per adult! Loved the ride through the Museum! Could have been longer, it was so cool! Well worth it!
N.
Very chilly in winter. Amazing views even though it was cloudy. Very friendly staff.
J.
Very cool with amazing view! Quite expensive with nothing really at the top for my lot. Still enjoyed it though.
D.
Brilliant place to visit , only ever experienced gondola in Sydney once. This was amazing. Great view . Fantastic staff
n.
Really nice ride!! And have something that I have never seen before on the top, I don’t want to be spoiler, just gonna say that have to be with NZ history. The coffe in the top is tasty and have amazing views. And they have some paths that you can walk to do a little bit of exercise and take some pictures.
V.
A good place to visit in Christchurch. We need to buy tickets before the ride. When you reach the top station you can visit the "Time Tunnel". This will be a good experience for all and also It has a good cafe and shopping center here. The photo service is "very tricky" (That's why I am giving 3 stars otherwise will get 5 stars) because they won't ask/say anything before taking the photo, so everyone needs to double think before buying the photos. I didn't like the photo service. Ignore it if you have already taken good photos on your camera.
P.
One of the unique places to visit in Christchurch.
n.
The price per a ticket which I bought was 30$. It included a time line tour of NZ history. Once u are done a half way through, u have to get off of the gondola in to a building where there are suoniors down floor & cafeteria on the top floor. At 10.30am, the timeliness tunnel starts in the same building. U will be asked get seated on a chair and it rides itself on lines taking u through the time line of NZ. It is nothing serious. But that includes in ur package if u want to. Then once u had enough of refreshments, u can again get in to a gondola and can return to the starting point. I found the ride was not that long enough.. but that was a fair enough experience..
S.
Christchurch Gondola is great place to watch. Here they have cable car facility to reach top. Also the tunnel inside facility is worth watching giving information about the rock formed due to volcano. Volcano rock is one exciting thing to watch. They also provide informative tour. Cafe options are good and staff is helpful.
During Earth quakes in Christchurch most of the rocks from mountain top have toppled down. So you can see the rocks around area. Scenic view of port nearby from top.
Overall nice place to watch and should not take more than 1-2 hours of your time.
E.
The ride is beautiful. The Gondola crawls up giving much time to take in the beautiful view of Christchurch.
C.
Love this place, Great welcoming staff, the ride on the Gondola is lovely and peaceful with great views. Great shop at the top with helpful staff and the cafe is nice too. Well worth a trip up there.
T.
Lovely trip up the mountain. The views are spectacular. The Restaurant up there serves good food at good prices.
J.
Great views over the city and surrounding area. The reasonably priced cafe takes full advantage of the views. There is a largish gift shop and the short 'car ride' detailing the regions history is informative. Staff are friendly and helpful.
a.
A must do. Very exciting trip. Y o u can hop on a shuttle from in front of the museum it moves from and to the gondola every hour. On top there is a cafe and external deck and you can have a nice walk outside on top before taking the ride back. Nice gift shop is found there too.
D.
A steep ride up in the gondolas for amazing 360 degree views. We didn't venture further as it was very windy but others were exploring outside and seemed to be enjoying themselves.
A.
Love coming up here an taking photos
R.
Incredible views. Not to be missed. Loved being a tourist in my own country. The Cafe is fabulous and the staff A1. But the views are breathtakingly beautiful 😍
M.
I was a little dubious about the 35$ PP at first but the time tunnel at the top is a riot. Its so dated I was splitting my sides the whole way through, the guide/engineer at the enterance was a champ too.
*Sidenote* some pretty solid resident evil vibes from the narrator too. "Youre all going to die" hahahahaha
g.
Got a season pass for a gift . Went up today staff were very friendly. Had a great time. Looking forward to going back many times over the year. Recommend to all.
N.
Great place we go at least once a month, get the annual pass make so much sense team it up with the tram and you're good to go.
K.
Great value for money rode up the port hills to gain great views of Littleton Harbour and the wider Christchurch area. The time tunnel was a novel little ride with some great information on the region. The views up here are fantastic.
S.
A must do when in Christchurch! Great views on the way up and down but amazing views from up top at the restaurant. A bonus time tour which was fun. Delicious food at the restaurant and great gift shop. An hour or two very well spent!
E.
Stunning views and excellent experience in both the gondola ride up and down along with the restaurant and viewing building at the top of the ride. Highly recommended five out of five. Very friendly and professional staff
E.
Though it was drizzly during the day, we had an amazing experience and appreciated the gondola ride. Take some time to relax at the cafe on the top floor. Amazing view and very friendly staffs!
J.
Awesome would definitely go again
P.
Fantastic experience!
A.
As always, beautiful views and specially on top of Gondola. Breathtaking views of Littleton Harbour too. Luge ride amazing and must do. Also bit away from city which is good with lot of parking unlike Wellington. So a must do and great fun
L.
The view is very nice. The small musuem tour is cute and fun to do.
We took beef burgers at the restaurant but it was not very good.
The waiters are very friendly :)
R.
Good ride up to the top went in the busy period so time tunnel was a bit more packed than usual. Didnt have to pay for tunnel as it comes with the gondola fee of $30 got photos at the end without a cover on it which was $25 worth it if you wanted something sentimental if you wanted the photos and cover with info about the gondola would have cost 39.95 that's more than the return ride itself but overall very fun 😊. If you wanted to walk up and back down without paying you can and go for walks around once your at the top which gives off beautiful views.
M.
Fantastic view! The tunnel experience was educational and cool. Shop have various things to look at, bought another jacket for my husband, affordable, practical and not bad quality. Food is OK and prices similar to other places but service is good.
R.
Great place to visit. Excellent views. The Time Tunnel is especially worthwhile!
Unfortunately, maintenance of the building is falling behind. Looks especially shabby from the restaurant's outside.
C.
Love to visit Gondola Chch whenever we are free. We got the a annual pass last year. I believe that it’s worth. We love to enjoy the scenic 360 view around the Chch. In different seasons and according to the time you are going on to the top you can have a different experience with the nature. I love the strong wind up in there. If you have time use the Gondola one way and use your foot for other way. Don’t forget to visit the TIME MACHINE that tells the story about Chch history. My children enjoyed glowing their white dresses inside Time machine. Don’t be afraid if the Gondola stopped on the way. That’s for the loading and unloading purposes.
Have a hot coffee at the cafe and you may buy anything from the shop to help local businesses. Take lots of photos that are unforgettable. Enjoy your next trip to Chch Gondola.
A.
Great experience for young and old. So nice to go up on a clear day and see over Lyttleton and Christchurch. Great walks to be had. Can even walk up the bridle path and Gondala down (pick up ticket first, or purchase an annual pass).
Can take wheelchairs up the gondala. There is a lift to the cafe.
Amazing views from the cafe.
Enjoy a coffee and watch some adrenal junkies 🙈🙀 out in the sky floating up and down in the air currents all around you.
Great time tunnel to see some of the history of the area.
Really nice place to sit and relax and enjoy the views with your family and friends
S.
Amazing views (even if it was a bit cloudy on the day we went), excellent gift shop and cafe. Gondola ride felt very safe and comfortable. The staff we very considerate of elderly people and stopped the car for them to get on, well done all involved. You cannot leave Christchurch without a trip on the gondola.
C.
A must do , the Christchurch, Gondola offers stunning 360 d views of Christchurch, including the snow covered Southern Alps , the rugged amazing landscape of Banks Peninsula, , Lyttleton harbour and Pacific Ocean. There is a time tunnel that takes you to a journey millions of years ago toilets, souvenir shops and a restaurant. You can get out of the shop to explore your surrounding and soak in on the views. You can choose to walk down the Bridle Path instead of talking the cable car. It's great exercise!😊
J.
1 of the best attraction in Christchurch. The climb is quite steep and the view up there is sensational.
Pack up your big puffy jackets as it's quite windy and chilly up there.
Food from the restaurant is of decent quality, they also sell local made beer!
There's also a walking trail around which I'll highly recommend
S.
What can I say, gondola are my jam. I've been on a ton of them. This one however, was great. It's short but with a steep incline, it makes for great views. The trees, the lake, the cliff faces, and the swing and bungy at the top is a recipe for a great ride. At the top is a whole new world. Don't forget your camera and even though you have your camera you'll still want to buy the picture they take off you when you first get in.
N.
Must do activity for exceptional views of the city and amazing NZ landscape. There is small time tunnel experience up at the top. The cafe was good but did not have a lot of vegetarian options.
We bought gandola pass in 4 combo pass the shuttle to gndola was included in the same. The shuttle starts at the stop 2 (cathedral square)
S.
One of the best places to visit and have fun with family.
I think best to go in summer, in the morning.
It's amazing place , nice and quiet.
Loved the ride.
A.
Great view point into Christchurch City and harbour as well.
C.
Spectacular views and historical relevance. A must see when visiting Christchurch. Need to go on a sunny day so you can see the landscape. Amazing coffee and cakes.
A.
Stunning views of the city and the harbour! Friendly team the season pass with the team is a great buy!
M.
It's smaller version of Queenstown Gondola. It's still a great ride to view the whole of Christchurch.
Z.
Had a great time visiting grandkids nd spending lots of money to re-energize our economy.,Thank-you ChCh
G.
The day I visited there were no clouds in sight! Unbelievable 360 degree panoramic views of Canterbury plains and mountains from Inland Kaikoura Mountains to way south. And to the east, Littleton, the harbour, Diamond harbour, and the hills further east.
Good selection of café food, and souvenirs. The Time Tunnel ride was informative and excellently narrated.
Gondola ride is an awesome experience.
Take a windbreaker coat if you intend to go outside the complex; the Easterly wind was quite chily!
J.
Go walking through the Bridle Path and check on Google what's it all about. Amazing view. One of the top Kiwi plans for both families, MTB cyclists and hikers.
E.
Amazing place with 360 stunning view !!!
Must visit in Christchurch.
L.
I felt safe traveling up and down, the views were awesome , and managed to grab some bargains in the shop before going out to the viewing platforms. Plenty of signs giving info on the surrounding areas
이.
Gondola fee 30 dollars for adults, 15 dollars for children, 75 dollars for a family of four, economically optional Before boarding the gondola, an employee takes a picture and makes a book for you.
J.
Food is good. The savory muffin was pretty tasty and the vegan slice was yum.
Great views!
K.
Absolutely loved this. Make sure you have plenty of money to spend at the gift shop and cafe at the top. Great views and lovely people
R.
Great views and nice ride to the top. Some good walking trails once up there if you’re fit!
J.
Good place to "hang around'" and get a great view of a great city. Loved the sheep on the hillside on the ride up and down. Go there!
C.
Beautiful 😍 great experience we had a fantastic time. Spectacular views best visited on a fine day
Y.
Fantastic! Wonderful experience with the kids! They loved it! Great way to see a beautiful view of the Garden City! Revisiting my hometown this was a must for my children. You can go for walks once at the top so bring shies for walking if you plan on doing one of the walks. A new ride at the top takes you through the history of Aotearoa and is fantastic. Great day out!
C.
If you only have one day to see Christchurch, make this place high on your list. The views are one of a kind.
R.
We had a nice ride up the hill with great views out over Christchurch. Had coffee and date scones.
Service was very good.
Unfortunately the clouds were quite low so it was a bit hazy so the views were as good as they could be.
We could still see Lyttelton harbour across to Diamond harbour and also Christchurch
J.
We have an annual pass and love going up the gondola on a clear day!
L.
What a great experience! And go and have a chat with Noeline in the gift shop, she's a hoot! It made the experience even more memorable.
K.
Great views over Christchurch and Lyttleton. Well worth the taking the trip.
C.
What a beautiful place.. Even with the clouds, its still stunning. Cafe is on the. $$dude, but the food is delicious
A.
Really awesome place with fantastic views!! I just wish it were more affordable: prices for the gondola is about $20 per person.
P.
For those who enjoy an effortlessly 'hike up' the hill, ride a gondola. Best option for family with kids of course.
J.
Have to do this when you're in Christchurch, on a clear day. Spectacular and breathtaking views. Wonderful Cafe. Great food and nicely priced. The time tunnel was amazing. Go there people.
D.
I always take overseas visitors here. Excellent views and brief but interesting presentation of history of Canterbury in time tunnel.
J.
We booked online and drove our hire car here. Easy to find location and we enjoyed some picturesque views on a sunny 26’degree day. The staff were friendly, gift shop and cafe at the top - definitely worth the money spent.
d.
It's a quite unique experince considering the other Gondola rides around New Zealand.
S.
Friendly staff , not far from city center , but they only open from 10 a.m to 5:30 pm ( last cable cart going down from the top ) so u can't stay to enjoy the sunset , u need at least 3 hours to enjoy the area
R.
Very nice view of Bank Peninsula, worth buying combo ticket with Christchurch Tram, good for those like me who only spend one day in Christchurch, you can see more of Christchurch with this combo.
A.
5* Stunning views on the way up and at the top! Great café with friendly staff and a few gluten free options for my sister.
3* Unfortunately watch out for the photography scam at the end, we were verbally told one deal and then my dad was charged a more expensive rate after stepping off the next Gondola and not hearing the conversation. Guessing the staff are rewarded for commission as noted no written boards advertising how much the photographs cost.
L.
Christchurch have many tourists attractions and one off them is Gondola. Definitely have to see the History of Canterbury time tunnel, will take no more that 10 min and. Walking around and enjoy the view. Also you can take break around the top of the hill.
C.
Going up in the Gondola is always a great experience, pretty much in all weathers. The ride lasts about 8 minutes, but it is the view from the top that is the attraction. The Canterbury plains all the way out to the Southern Alps, and as far north to the Kaikoura Ranges is amazing on a clear day. You will love it. And you can buy combo tickets which let you ride the tram in town too! The orange look and haze in the photo was the smoke from Australian forest fires.
S.
The gondola was amazing. Stunning 360 views
S.
The gondola nice views. Plenty of walks at the top. Cafe nice to eat
M.
Good experience. Nice Cafe. plenty of car park.
A.
Great way to sightsee Christchurch, very easy to get there getting bus from the city. You can do some treks as well around the area. Plus, there’s a small free presentation of the city history in a moving train once you are up the top.
J.
Great views on a lovely sunny day, 360 degrees. The Time Tunnel well worth a go.
N.
Walks ok.. Ride up was cool.. relaxed environment..nice views
E.
Rad fun!
m.
Nice view of christchurch, and enjoyed their ride. Time travel tunnel is awesome 👌
M.
Great views, interesting experience, topped off with awesome company 👍
P.
I got an amazing view of Christchurch from the top of the mountain thanks to this Gondola. The Gondola ride is fun. I also checked out the Time Tunnel Experience on top, it was a pretty decent introduction to South Island. The café on top is also good. If you hike a little, you can go out & get the panoramic view from the top. I also got a free shuttle transfer between Christchurch city center & Gondola station.
D.
Great views of Christchurch and Lyttelton. You can either walk up or buy a gondola ticket
K.
Gondola ride is good, but the ‘time tunnel’ queue was ridiculously slow and the definitely not worth the wait
I.
Very nice place to see 180 degrees panoramas of Christchurch and Lyttelton harbour. The views are simply fantastic and on a clear day you can see snow capped mountains on the West. The place could be very busy so expect to wait in a line for gondola (only 4 adult per gondola). Time Tunnel is not much of a fun. Cafe has decent food. If you have time try walk down by the walking track. It’s steep, but still easy to do.
A.
Very nice place to visit. Good scenery and good friendly staff. Worthy your money.
A.
The views at the top are good. But really I'd only go if you're stuck for something to do. 40 dollars for the bus return and ticket up and back was really not worth it.
D.
Nice coffee and food at the cafe, gift shop not overpriced with a good selection of kiwiana made in both China and NZ.
The cafe's best feature is by far the 360 views.
R.
If in Christchurch a must see. Amazing view as well nice hike on the top.
S.
Seemingly a well-maintained gondola service up a mountain to a retail shop, restaurant and viewing areas - both indoor and outdoor. There is also a tunnel ride with historic information (that we didn't go on, as it was not obvious to us at the time of our attendance). Food looked nice and well presented in cabinets, but we did not stay for food and beverage. A pleasurable ride and experience. Staff were friendly and helpful...
g.
Views were awsm, weather check is must before booking, need clear weather for awsm pics! There's a cafe at the top so you can sit and enjoy your meal with fantastic views!
S.
Great views, easy to go there! Tip: Skip the direct transfer. It only shaves off a couple of minutes and waiting for that bus to go back takes at least 30 minutes!
C.
Great attraction. Beautiful views. Excellent value for 12month locals pass. Awesome wedges and fries. Panaramic views for pics of Christchurch and Lyttleton harbour. Cool inside history ride included for price (not so thrilled with 'evolutionary therory being a creation science man myself). Gift shop is excellent with fair pricing. Well worth the time. Access to great walking tracks too.
q.
Amazing views from the top after riding the gondola. Its like seeing the whole Christchurch. Its so breathtaking, I don't want to go down. 😂
D.
Breathtaking views. Highly recommend as a must do when in Christchurch.
A.
Breathtaking views.
Highly recommend it ☺️
R.
Enjoyable ride and magnificent views
D.
Great views and some nice walks at the top both long and short.
w.
It is worth the trip great views on a clear day
R.
A must go, one of the best activity in Christchurch. Really impressive views
D.
Gondola a bit shaky in the way up, but the excellent gift shop at the top makes up for it
I.
Had a great day, with a little bit of rain.
Nice food, with a pot of tea.
B.
Pretty cool views over the Canterbury plains. The gondolas aren't too steep and don't shake much. Quite a nice cafe/function centre at the top. Heaps of walking/tramping tracks from the top aswell. Would recommend visiting.
P.
Pretty good experience. I'm sure the views would be spectacular on a good day. We we're there on a day with overcast weather, still had pretty awesome views.
D.
Nice scenery. Took a break at the cafe and headed outdoor for more photos.
t.
Loved the view, just the weather wasn't that great today.
J.
Well worth the drive our from the CBD. Stunning views.
D.
Easy to hike even without gondola, very nice view plus trails around to relax,
J.
Really excellent. I am very scared of Gondolas but this one felt safe. Excellent views are summit
K.
I have an annual pass, try to visit at least once a week. Everyone is always friendly, service is great, food and coffee are yummy
P.
This is a must do for all tourists and kiwis alike. Spectacular 360 views of the region, just amazing.
A.
The views are stunning at the top , my daughter and I enjoyed the ride up.
R.
Great day with my son. Live friendly atmosphere. Different everytime we go on it. Highly recommend to every one who visit Christchurch.
J.
Beautiful views and a Cafe to enjoy a coffee & light snack.
H.
Great views in all weathers, it's one of my happy places. We always enjoy great food and coffee ☕ in the cafe. The shop has lots of lovely gift ideas.
P.
Best views in Christchurch over the city and Lyttelton.
D.
Amazing view of both Christchurch and Littleton from the top.
Worth a trip.
D.
Great experience, they could make so much more of it though. The views are fabulous.
L.
Fun day out for the family. Make sure its not cloudy or you'll see not a lot.
J.
Beautiful view from the top 🤩
I.
Great ride, great views, try the cafe!! All excellent.
G.
It was ok for the views bit $45NZD for the souvenir photo is a LOT over priced
S.
The lady in the shop was very helpful and she had a great sense of humor. Thank you very much
We also enjoyed the educational ride inside and loved the gondola
D.
The gondola is almost perfect with a beautiful scenery while it brings you up the mountain.
But, the gondola can be quite noisy at times.
G.
A bit expensive to see a nice but not spectacular view. Wouldn't recommend it to others. Time tunnel is cute for under 8's. It needs another family attraction up there to make it worth it. Rotorua and Queenstown's luges' make the experience a must do and must revisit.
S.
The first time ever on the Christchurch Gondola, the view was out of this world. The way up was a smooth ride. The best experience out there ,also includes photos at the end. A gift shop with awesomely cool iconic trinkets and cafe to sit and enjoy the view.
A.
A must if visiting Christchurch - smooth ride, Time-tunnel experience amazing, awesome views, great walking tracks, fabulous Cafe delicious food/drinks - excellent gift shop good deals - friendly customer service ❤️
C.
Been going here for years, great views and a great place to start the many walks in the Port Hills
A.
Amazing views. Awkward time tunnel ride and dangerous gravel walk back down. Would do again
l.
We are annual pass holders so find ourselves on the gondola quite a bit. Always fun especially with young children. Mine love the time tunnel- best chips!! Unfortunately a little chaotic in the Cafe today, super busy over lunchtime. But it is the school holidays!! Still lovely food views and service.
T.
Amazing views and nice cafe. Best iced chocolate ever! Thank you
T.
Awesome place created by God.
Restaurant at top is good, fair price.
M.
Great views from the top of the hill from the gondola
A.
Great ride up beautiful views well priced and not a bad Cafe at the top!
S.
While the gondola was a great experience, the $30.00 spent on the photos at the end was not. It wasn’t until we got them home and opened them up that we realised they are grainy and poor quality which is a shame because it seemed like the ones they showed us were a lot nicer. At least we got the digital copies so can get some nicer ones... 😒
R.
I went there with my Grandma and my Blind severely autistic uncle. The staff were really patient and stopped the whole gondola to make sure my uncle could get on safely. One thing I'm not to happy with is the price of the food, $30 for two pies, two chips a sandwich and two teas, water was also $5 a bottle. We chose to buy the photos which was $35 for the hard copys, and $3 for a code to a website, however when I went to the website it asked me for an extra $5 USD to access the photos. The photos turned out great and I'd definitely go there again.
F.
Great views on clear days. Christchurch and the ocean and inlet harbour can be seen. Windy. Amazing vicinity.
C.
Very happy to have made the decision to experience the Gondola and scenic hike. Very stunning.
J.
One of the best view you can see in Gondolas of New Zealand
j.
Enjoyable ride. Stunning views of Christchurch city, the ocean, Southern Alps and Lyttelton Harbour. They have restaurant cafe and souvenir shop.
R.
Amazing view. Not very busy this time of the year.
F.
Staff were super friendly, and a really awesome experience. Highly recommended
T.
enjoyed Gondola how ever the cafe staff and food are very average
c.
Brilliant ride and views. Friendly welcoming staff
D.
The experience is amazing. I loved it highly. Im happy with this result of experience... thanks
S.
Had a great time, we bought season passes so we can continue to have great experiences around our cool city!
a.
very good place to visit, awesome menu especially sea food. well organized
G.
Playing tourist and worth the visit for the views
S.
Good view on the top!
s.
Great daytrip idea at reasonable price. Stunning views on a clear day. Good walking tracks in the open air! Cafe food was good and staff lovely to talk to. Loved the free time tunnel experience as a snapshot of factual local history. Well done to the team.
K.
Fantastic time and an awesome view of greater Christchurch. Nice coffee. Time tunnel is very informative. Definitely a must do!
J.
Amazing views and friendly staff. The ride is an awesome addition but a little scary for toddlers due to the loud noises. Only downside is the coffee is usually burnt, but the food is great.
T.
Awesome service great views
J.
Great views easy connection from tram to bus return very easy interesting
M.
Was gifted a family yearly voucher which was a treat.
I think it is a great facility for Christchurch and seems to run quite efficiently. Friendly staff.
I did take 1 star off for the building at the top really needing a bit of an overhaul and also that the time tunnel story seems to be quite old... doesn't even mention the earthquake which is very important to us Cantabs. I'm sure these things could be easily remedied so fingers crossed for the future.
R.
Nice ride, expensive though..good views on top, informative station with restaurant.
K.
Not much to do at the top, but the ride was fun
z.
Don't miss. Amazing panoramic view on the top.
A.
Stunning 360-degree view from the top after a couple of minutes of gondola ride.
s.
Loved this place, amazing veiws. Cafe wasnt the best and coffee tasted burnt and old, over priced and tastless food but thats what you get when you do this kind of thing.
R.
A package worth contemplating. Well organised. Lots of options. Perfect location. A truly wonderful day out. Incredible Vista's of the superb Canterbury landscape. 360 D covering all aspects of this magical environment. Enhanced beyond belief as the Autunmal splendour excites. Thank you.
D.
Cannot wait to take the whānau (family), during summer! Was so much fun, thank you
H.
You have to see it to believe it, although its a summer vibe but i think anytime of season for sure the view and colour will differ. It is an awesome natural landscape!
M.
Great views and fun place to take the family
N.
Very nice place. Panoramic view from the top of the hill
l.
Love it ...its fun and absolutely gorgeous views from up there!
G.
Amazing views, a must do attraction
D.
Spectacular views, and we enjoyed the time tunnel. If you have mobility issues there are lots of stairs though. Watch out for the coffee though, very strong and bitter.
J.
Although the car park was almost full, there was no queue and we went straight into a gondola. It was a perfect, still and sunny day and we loved our smooth ride with magnificent views of the city. We enjoyed a browse through the shop before our Time Tunnel ride with interesting and informative narrative about the history of Canterbury. Most enjoyable experience for me and my two grand daughters during their school holidays.
M.
Great ride and amazing view.
K.
Great ride both up & down, great customer service in the gift shop where we met the delightful Noeline and thanks for the jam guys to have on our fresh cheese & date scones. Lovely experience so recommend this to one & all. Cheers
K.
Great views out over Christchurch on both sides. Nice cafe at the top plus the gift shop had lots of lovely stuff with some bargains to be had.
K.
Great day out, amazing views.
J.
Great activity on a cloudy day. Brilliant views & pleasant structure, though low beams on surrounding viewing deck are a hazard. History tunnel was a good addition.
s.
Nice views but nit alot else
L.
Great experience....beautiful view
s.
It's nice place to see the city from the top
S.
Really nice restaurant at the top and the view f the harbour and the city is amazing. Another must do in the area is Bridle path walk.
J.
Awesome views!
R.
Awesome views and great tourist experience. Worth the trip.
A.
Good view from top
A.
incredible experience here. the view is amazing
c.
The view will depend on the season u visited. But since im.from.asia i love the view
D.
Incredible panoramic views. Price is a bit high I think, but otherwise worth the trip. Cafe is really nice at the top and has good coffee.
m.
Stunning view of Christchurch city , lyttleton harbour area.
S.
Always a great place to visit, the annual pass is excellent value. Brilliant views and the cafe is a very good.
A.
I think the gondola prices were bit expensive for the experience. Not as great as expected.
A.
Fantastic experience and not too expensive. Staff were very friendly. Had lunch there which was good. Shop goods are so cheap compared to many other attractions. Its a must see .
J.
Beautiful and easy, wheelchair friendly.
Would have liked to see a play area for kids so the adults could enjoy the view
N.
Awesome views great cafe friendly staff a must visit girls those coming to Christchurch. However pick a fine day the scenery is beyond belief.
L.
It's best to choose a day when you can see down the mountainside to the harbor on one side and Christchurch on the other. But even if the views aren't great, there is a nice little cafe at the top with reasonable prices and a complete menu. The gift shop is fun to explore and the time tunnel museum/ride is included with your gondola ticket. A great excursion for a couple of hours just outside of Christchurch proper.
g.
they have very strict health and safety rules in place to make sure we are safe at all times :) I liked it because the workers were nice, and the Canterbury history ride was quite the experience
:3
D.
Beautiful views over Lyttelton, the city and New Brighton. On a clear day you can see the Southern Alps. Lovely Cafe for lunch or just a snack. Gift Shop worth a visit for gifts or memories of your visit
S.
Magnificent venue! Great service! Great views!
M.
A nice experience that anyone can do with a nice cafe at the top
I.
What a great time to see this lovely place at the moment. 😊
P.
The view is great but the actual experience is very underwhelming. $30 each and the Gondola ride itself is ok, the summit top is very basic, a tacky souvenir shop as you arrive, a "Time Tunnel" that is somewhat dated and looking rough around the edges and the restaurant. Views are what you go for and they are great. The rest however could do with some of the $$ invested back.
J.
Great place for fantastic views and nice coffee
D.
Awesome views from once you get on and all the way up
J.
Great experience well worth going. 7 min tunnel on the area a must. Good shopping yoo
m.
Was a great ride 🥰was disappointed when I saw the notice to say we weren't allowed to take food as we had a picnic lunch packed. Could have been a great experience otherwise.
R.
Spacious cable car. Can move around well inside while enjoying the view. Nice and decent cafe and retails awaits at the top.
K.
Must do in Christchurch. Great cafe. Fun walk outside in the tussock!! Take a coat
S.
Great afternoon . Amazing views , nice coffee. Recommend to kiwi's and visitor's to NZ
M.
The view from the top is worth a trip up, if you're not fit enough for the steep trek. Lots of good walks to be had along the summit once you're there.
There's an interesting historical "time tunnel" ride which only takes 5 mins and is informative.
J.
For those people with limited mobility, the will stop the gondola to allow people to get on and off. There is a hidden lift in the top building to get up to the restaurant and viewing platform. Just ask a staff member
I.
Very beautiful sceneries 😀😀
G.
Well worth it for the views. Highly recommend bringing a picnic lunch, although there aren't any picnic benches. The trails could be better signposted, and honestly you don't get any better views, but it was nice to stretch our legs. Wish I'd booked a family combo (tram+punting+gondola); I would have saved a lot of money. They also offer a Top10 discount, but I forgot to ask for it!
B.
Scenic view on the way up and down. Nice ride for the money. Make sure to take a coupon for a discount or book through book me. The walk at the top is definitely with it. I even sat and got lunch at the cafe and had a dessert. Such nice scenery, you could stay forever. Check out the time machine which is included in your ticket. It's a wonky kind of attraction but interesting.
C.
Great views of the surrounding area, staff were friendly and helpful
C.
Great views of Christchurch and Banks Peninsula. I wouldn't worry about the time tunnel though.
R.
Great place and good 360 degree views
G.
Having not visited the Port Hills gondola since 1995 it was great to revisit it recently and see some of 2010 and 2011 earthquake damage in Heathcote still as we dro e to the car park and also below us as we were lifted over the still closed in 2019 Summit road. The views and scenery are as breathtaking as ever. The Cafe offerings are of good standard, even if the delivery of the drinks we ordered was slow. The time tunnel ride experience is a lot better than last time I visited and worth the 15 or so minutes it takes. Especially as it's already included in the ticket price.
M.
The views from the top are amazing. The gondola truly provides a 360 degree view of Christchurch. There is also time tunnel experience - it is a short 7 minutes experience but worth trying. Highly recommend the gondola ride.
M.
Smooth ride, Beautiful view of nature
D.
Spectacular views of Littleton Harbour, Brighton Beach, Canterbury Plains and the Christchurch CBD. Wonderful cafes, and gift shops the gondola ride was brilliant, the staff very friendly and helpful.
S.
Great views, kids love the place. fantastic food. Highly recommend
J.
Loved the experiences seeing whole Christchurch without breaking my knees 😂 good place to chill and have a break.
T.
Incredible view.
Usually if I land in Christchurch before mid day- I always go there after checking in if only to have a beer or a coffee. Few times decided to just walk down, rather than use cable car.
P.
Always enjoy the café. Then the esysier nearby walks. Can't bet the views.
J.
Nice, beautiful and windy...
B.
One of the great assets of Christchurch. Fabulous views 360 degrees. A must to visit on a visit to Christchurch.
P.
Took my niece and nephew up in the school holidays on a cloudy day, we were politely warned there would be no view at the top.Great way to get to the top of a mountain without having to hike all the way up! Pathways around the gondola shelter are worth exploring and there are facilities/snacks to take a break.
G.
Didn't have to wait. Got buy one get one free from Entertainment book saving $28. Good parking. Friendly photographer took our photo at the bottom, and they wanted $40 for the photo package when we got back. Good view at the top. Safe, clean 10 minute ride up. Took us about an hour to gradually walk back down the tracks with plenty of photo stops. Next time, I might just walk up.
M.
The gondola is great fun, get a yearly pass. The cafe used to be fantastic and the food excellent but now it is less than average. Make the destination as good as the journey.
K.
Well worth the price, nice selection of food at the top, wait for the Tunnel ride was long but given school Holidays that was to be expected
T.
It is an amazing sight! You have a 360 degrees view. It was so peaceful and relaxing. I walked the trails down the monument of the first settlers of Christchurch. There are bike and running paths. You can ever walk in the mountain and take the gondola down. You should give yourself enough time to enjoy the experience.
G.
The Christchurch Gondola base is located in Heathcote Valley, and it traverses the slopes of Mount Cavendish in the Port Hills. Unfortunately on the day we were there it was very overcast so we did not get the best views. However, on the journey up and back we were able to view Christchurch and the surrounding area. Definitely we'll worth the trip.
R.
Beautiful! Absolutely stunning! A must do activity for all the ages - so great
M.
I enjoyed beautiful scenery with my girlfriend. Give it a try with your favorite.
E.
Definitely worth a visit - amazing 360 views over the city, snow capped mountains and bays. Nice cafe at the top with cakes, light meals and hot/cold drinks. lovely hot chocolate! They do a children's hot chocolate too, which is in a smaller cup and they add cold milk to ensure it's not too hot for the little ones - great touch.
When you step off the gondola you are launched straight in to the gift shop and you have to navigate your way through before you can exit to the cafe or viewing deck, or escape outside - feels a bit forced and signage could be better.
Loads of free parking with large bays suitable for cars and campers.
L.
Great veiws and ride to the top.
T.
Enjoyed the beautiful views from the top and the relaxing and steady ride to the top and bottom. Was disappointed with the lack of emphasis on the Tangata Whenua during the history of Canterbury ride at the top. Whilst there was some acknowledgement, it was very minimal, which I found a little insulting. Very much reminded me of how the Australian's promote their tourist history and land, with very little recognition of the First Nations Aboriginal people and their culture, prior to the settlers arriving. Suggest updating this in consultation with local Iwi.
S.
very beautiful sceneries you can get from here
P.
Warning: contrary to what the workers at the tram ticket kiosk told us, presenting your receipt to the gondola ticket kiosk the next day does NOT give you the discounted combo price. You need to buy the combo ticket initially. Workers at the gondola told us this is an ongoing issue.
Otherwise, the view is amazing!
A.
Brilliant experience, lovely views and interesting time ride. Reccommend you go on a clear day so you can make the most of the views. The souvenir shop is reasonably priced and the food in the cafe was cooked and presented well.
M.
Always a fantastic place for views after the snow has fallen through the region.
S.
Epic view from the top. Totally worth the price.
P.
Top visitor attraction to do in Christchurch, worth the money!
K.
It is a quick ride up. Very steep in parts so be cautious if you have concerns about heights.
The top has a pretty good cafe.
There is an attraction called the Time Tunnel. That is FANTASTIC. It just takes 6 mins and is really worthwhile.
C.
I loved this place... great views of the city, canterbury plains and harbour. I highly recommend it. I would only suggest for the attraction administration to think about extending the shuttle bus service to descend from the Gondola to the downtown at the end of the day. The last shuttle bus descends at 4.35pm and this does not help those tourists that arrive to the Gondola after 3pm.
K.
This is a great place to head to if you have some time to spend. I'd suggest walking either up or down to extend the experience as the trip up is only 5-10 minutes. The walk is approx 40 mins. There is a cafe and a 'History of Christchurch' ride in the building at the top of the hill. Food is OK but nothing special and quite pricey. Cost of the ride is getting up there but the view from the top is awesome.
D.
Best attractions in Christchurch, #1 on all tourist buckets list
M.
Even on a windy misty day it was a lovely outing..Almost being one/or above the clouds
D.
The Gondola ride was great, the view was marvelous as far as the eye could see, lunch was also good will go again for the view
H.
Always great place no matter what the weather. Amazing views, great food
F.
We have an annual pass and so come fairly often, there are great views from the top and some lovely walks up there too. The time tunnel in the basement has a European history of the area which is not ideal for young children, as it is rather dark.
L.
Nice ride
A little scary lol
J.
Awesome views. Friendly staff. Fun for the kids and adults. Cafe is a little pricy but it has good coffee and copes with crowds well. The kids love the time tunnel downstairs. A fun thing is to walk back down the track.
P.
Great for travelers to see both Christchurch city and over into banks peninsula on the other side.
If you are planning on going outside you may want to have a wind proof jacket and warm clothes.
The views I think are great so make sure you bring a camera!
A few walking tracks up the top so bring a lunch and make a day of it!
J.
Such a rollercoaster of emotions and an absolutely awesome experience would highly recommend!!!
M.
It is a place you should definitely go if you visit Christchurch. Amazing panoramic views of the city and not only. There is a nice coffee bar at the top with quite friendly personnel. Dress well if you visit the place during the winter since it can get really windy at the top of the hill.
H.
Amazing views of the city - not reccommended on a windy day if you are scared of heights.
J.
Every year I come over I always make sure I go on the Gondola I love it up there
R.
Awesome place to visit and enjoy the view
G.
Great experience well worth the ride.
Great scenery and plenty to do.
Good cafe and plenty of space.
J.
Amazing views and great experience. Thanks to staff at the top for making it a very enjoyable trip.
J.
Great place to visit over the weekend. Amazing and breathtaking view from the top! There's also a nice short ride called the Time Travel explaining the history of the city and the region; great for kids. There's also a cafe on the top with great food.
M.
Best experience, must for visitors. Best views when the sky is clear
L.
We had a picknick at the top. The views were amazing. Friendly staff. They could do with some outdoor benches. A great way to spend a few hours. Very kid friendly.
P.
Short ride up in the small 4 person gondola and the keep the windows nice an clean for photos on the way up. There is an outside walkway around the outside of the building when you get to the top, or you can sit inside from the cafe. Very reasonably priced cafe at the top. Good place for a cuppa.
S.
Beautiful ride on the way up and down. Also the restaurant up the top serves some pretty good food. And you'll find enough souvenirs for winter and decorative things. You also get the chance to learn about how Christchurch was discovered on a mini slow ride great for elderly, kids, anyone really.
S.
What a wonderful ride. You can watch the city shrink while riding up the mountain. We bought a pass from the Tram driver that included unlimited Tram use for 2 days, a shuttle to the gondola and back, the gondola ride up and back down, plus a guided riding tour through the Botanic Gardens. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the varieties of plants and flowers.
A.
Awesome view up there a must go
C.
Very friendly and helpful staff, managed to put our wheelchair into one gondola and us in another. Good communication through all staff.
O.
Worth the ride food and entertainment while your there. The shop at the top had specials galore. Big awesome from me
H.
This is included in the yearly tram card and you can go as often as you like. Enjoyed the film show about how New Zealand was made too.
S.
Incredible views. Staff are lovely. Enjoyable ride up and down. Great café food and prices. Chilled vibe. Fair price for the gondola ride. If you don't have a vehicle, get the shuttle that leaves from the museum in town for only $10nzd return. So many people don't know this is here, but it was a highlight of my time in Christchurch
G.
Absolutely brilliant place to visit
j.
Taking the gondola up brings you to some nice views of Christchurch and Lyttleton. There's a gift shop and restaurant in the building. There are also some walks that you can do up in the hills, plus also the option of walking down to the car park (if you wish to do this, then buy a one-way ticket).
The gondola ticket also includes entry to the Time Tunnel, which is a quick ride giving some history of Christchurch.
J.
Great place and great value for money!
J.
Great ride awesome views. Great place to go for coffee ☕ and lunch at the Cafe at the top. Well worth the money.
J.
Great views. Nice little souvenir shop. Cafe and walks.
H.
We have a family pass which I recommend to locals... makes visiting these places very easy. Great place for an outing.... no two times are the same. Always something to see up the top and a walk to do too. Last trip down the gondola is 5.30pm... we nearly got caught out!! Be alert here especially if you are going for a walk about that you leave enough time to get back.
G.
really enjoy the place nice tunnel ride and food was good
W.
Great views and Time Tunnel a bonus
V.
Nice 360 degree view, a little windy.
D.
This a must visit attractions while visiting Christchurch. The views from the top are beautiful. Also from the top you can see the Lyttelton harbour in the backdrop. The colours in lake make the views mesmerising. Well they also have a shuttle from city. Please check the respective timings according to the season as working hours differ. Public transportation also drops exactly outside the gondola starting point. Winds affect gondola operations so incase of a windy day please check about gondola operations over the phone. It's around 10-11 km from city centre.
A.
Great scenery. Just a bit pricey for a short ride
G.
As gondolas (funiculars) go, this one is not dramatic compared to -- say -- the Uentersberg outside Salzburg or the two cars that take you to the top of Mont Blanc. We happened to take the Christchurch gondola on a very windy day, so the cars were blown around a lot and it was unpleasant to stand outside the restaurant (more of a coffee shop) at the top. Still, the view is spectacular, and it is worth going. There is a shuttle bus from Cathedral Square in downtown Christchurch, which, amazingly, the staff at our hotel didn't know about. It costs extra (but is worth it).
T.
Absolutely worth the money! The view from the top is simply breathtaking.
B.
Very beautiful views from the gondola. It was cold but still most enjoyable. The grandkids really enjoyed the virtual tour especially the self moving car.
E.
Very nice experience, we also did Mt Pleasant trail
L.
very nice good views all around Christchurch but no decent parking for Motorhomes
T.
Nice gondola ride. Very gentle and nice views
k.
You will have to go on a sunny day otherwise there's really not much to see. The museum tour was good. The cafe was very average
M.
Easy ride and very nice views from the top. A good opportunity to get an overview over the Christchurch area and also to get a "feeling" for the landscape.
P.
One of the must go places in christchurch where you can get a 360 degree view at the observatory deck.
Their cafe is also really nice but extremely busy as we were told theres a 30 minute wait, but it was fine as there were plenty of seating with a great view of the outside.
J.
Lovely views, be aware of last call to go down though! Would have been better with Gold Card discounts.
P.
Good experience once at the top there a shop and a free train ride. We didn't know about the train ride so staff should tell people. Also it was a very hot day so be aware to dress lightly. Take a drink with you. It says you can't eat or drink in Gondola but if it stops for too long you may want to at least have water on board.
H.
A quick ride and affordable prices. Once you at the top, you'll find a Caffe, and seriously, you should try a bowl of wedges, top 5 I've ever tried. The scenaries are beautiful, and you'll be able to walk all around the station to get a 360 view of the town. I recommend it.
B.
Great fun and grand views
b.
Last time went on here about 20 years ago. Should really do it again. Not good if you are afraid of heights or get motion sickness but if that doesn’t bother you, you’ll enjoy the experience!
J.
Great view and warm-hearted staffs
L.
Lovely views but very expensive food and drinks. I walked up to the gondola via the crater rim track and, unlike the Queenstown gondola or the chairlift at the Christchurch adventure park, was still made to pay $20 for a lift down the hill.
t.
Went to the gondolas yesterday for my sons birthday the ride was great although cloudy we still had great views. We decided to stop for lunch at the restaurant which was ok. Service was we bought drinks from the fridge and my son ordered a beer, wewent and sat down and waited adter 5 minutes my daughter popped to the counter to see where the beer was . She was told we would bring it out. Ok so we wait another 5-8 minutes I then go up, while waiting for someone to see me i see the beer on bench then see the waiter cleaning a glass with a servette he turns I ask can I get that beer now. He hands me the beer from bench and the glass he is cleaning. The glass was warm and not clean at all it was covered in fingerprints and just not clean. The food arrives which was good, we had ordered some wegdes with works which was a big serve so they werent all eaten so I asked if I could have a take home container for them NO was the answer as they had none at present and was given 2 brown paper bags. So although the gondola ride and views from the top were great the restaurant was disappointing
N.
Great view up top. $30 bit rich for return trip though. I'll never understand how one photo cost $39. Is that cost to make up for all the ones printed off being chucked in the bin? Just charge extra $5 and give one for free
B.
Great 360 view of Christchurch, we live in Queenstown and the Gondola here doesn't have that 360 view. Very unique.
M.
There are NO bike hooks on the gondola. And even though there is a sweet hillside for trails and the road is closed there are no trails top to bottom. One of the few remaining things holding chch back as a MTB holiday destination. Cafe is quite good tho :)
J.
Cable car was great. Wonderful views. However the story of Christchurch experience disappointing. Stops abruptly after first Settlers arrival in 1850...then viewed famous Cantabrians, including Richie McCaw....from Kurow!!!!!!!
Did nothing happen in Chc from 1850 until present day....I don't think so!!!!
S.
My family and I have supported the Christchurch Gondola for years by purchasing their annual pass. We will not be doing it again as I had a horrible customer service experience while at the Red Rock cafe. Never in my life have I been treated so disrespectfully! Such a shame as our previous experience was good.
N.
Beautiful views from Gondola. Staff was gracious enough to postpone the ride to next day as the booked day was too cloudy and bad for views.
T.
Great way to get the 'big picture' of Christchurch and Lyttleton. Good history lessons in the cafe too. Very pleasant spot for lunch
D.
Beautiful view, a must do.
V.
Beautiful
S.
Very friendly staff. Awesome shop. Brilliant views. I love the time travel ride at the top too.
B.
Excellent gondola ride, excellent staff and amazing views of Christchurch and Lyttelton Harbor. The food and drinks are a bit overpriced though.
C.
Loved the experience. Offers breathtaking views of Christchurch and the landscape. Picture perfect location with 360° panorama makes it a great place to visit. Must visit attraction of Christchurch.
S.
This is one of the best ways to get your bearings when visiting Chch for the first time. It's quite a spectacular ride up the hill, passing over a quake damaged road, on its way up to the restaurant/shop/mini train ride. Shame it's not far up the hill as it's over quickly but panoramic views. A must to take the family to, and for those new to Canterbury.
l.
A must go place for anyone come to Chch! Beautiful sights of the city, sea, land and the magnificient mountains! Also, it has a great cafe and shop. Enjoyed the view while having my lunch up there.
M.
Didn't actually take the gondola up and down as we hiked up and down, but it did have a nice vantage point and clean facilities to relieve yourself. Does have a restaurant on the top floor with a viewing deck. Can be very windy though.
K.
All good except for a disturbing sign on the stairs leading down to the time tunnel exhibition up top. The sign is describing the extinction of the giant moa hundreds of years ago with the arrival of humans in NZ. Then you are told on the ride itself that the Maori arrived 1000 years ago. Seems racist.
A.
Great experience to get a good view of christchurch and lyttleton harbour on the other side. There is a neat cafe on top for your coffee and snack needs. There's an interesting tour of 7 min or so.going through the history of the south island. Recommend it to all tourists and connected by the shuttle service makes it easier.

Take in a spectacular view over looking the coast of the port from the cafe viewing balcony or top of the port. Also take a ride through the tunnel of chch history located inside the cafe which was a bonus if you went up on gondola.
B.
Little outside the city but a very nice gondola ride with nice views.

Views from the top are spectacular. The history was a bit one sided with only a token mention of Moari.
S.
Perfect place to have an astonishing view of Christchurch!
J.
Definitely worth the money for the view from the top!
S.
Outstanding experience on a magnificent day!!

Historical with nice views. Food a but pricey but good. Service was good and friendly. Over all was a very nice place to visit with a lovely gift shop that was affordable. The only downside was the long wait for transport back into town. There was no seating available to have while waiting for a bus.

Kids loved it.. all kids will love the ride...whanau time

Still worth the gondola ride up the hill but at $30 won't be doing it very often. Should be a discount or incentive for locals. My biggest complaint is the complete lack of any representation of the maori people. The tunnel ride that explores our history makes it look like maori don't exist. As if!!

Went during low season. So it was a breeze getting on the cable car. We used the pre-purchased ticket combined with tram ride. It drizzled.
It was freezing as we walked outside on the viewing platform.. Fortunately we still brought gloves and beanies. As it was cloudy most of the photos we took were on darkside.
Toilets were clean and the souvenir shop sells interesting items at competitive price. The tunnel tour was informative, but we didn't try the cafe

Gondola trip was fun, plenty to look at up the top, if you can tear yourself away from the view.

Would have been 4 stars if not for the delayed entry. The were "conducting security checks" - come on guys, please do it before the queue builds up. The cafe at the top was good - nice muffins and coffee. The binoculars at the top expect coins - don't think it's a huge source of income for them but it does make you think they just want your money

Some really impressive views and well worth visiting. The cafe at the top is quite nice too and staff were friendly and welcoming. Well worth the visit.

Great experience however photo prices are ridiculous....8 photos for $68! Rip off and the photo quality is shocking!
S.
Cool attraction to have freindy staff
S.
Not to be missed!! We had hot chocolate while we enjoyed the view. It's a deal when you also get the tram and the Punting on the Avon! Fun and BEAUTIFUL

Very pretty. Nice views at the top and the little restaurant has good food. Worth the time to do if your Christchurch.
P.
A bit pricey but awesome view
L.
Awesome views on clear days from the sea through to the Southern Alps and Banks Peninsula on the otherside. simple food selection and gist shop onsite as well as photos of your trip. For locals, invest in the annual pass.

Stunning views! Was Hot in Christchurch that day, 30 odd Degrees C! :) ( So the locals told me! ;) , been an Aussie, it was warm, but at top of Gondola ride 1000ft up, was nice! :) )
R.
The gondola is fine. The views during the rude are not spectacular, but the ride is nice. The view from the top is great. A bit expensive.
m.
You can take great gondola experience for good price. Stunning view at top. Highly recommended. Love it. ♥️
S.
The view all the way up was spectacular. Shop was great. The view at top was fantastic. You had a view of all of christchurch.
T.
Loved it and so will you. Do this in conjunction with the Tram ride for a perfect day out.
If you only ever send a minute looking at what's around you and the rest of you time on your phone the do something else and leave the peace and quiet to those who appreciate it.
Love the serenity!!!!!!!!
C.
Awesome! Views fabulous!
H.
The views are just magical on both sides. The food is nice and what you would expect from this type of place. We enjoyed the time tunnel and the couple of hours spent admiring the views.
P.
The Gondola ride was pleasant, as was the exhibition at the top. The cafe would only get 1 star...not very nice food, and disinterested staff.
C.
great views of Christchurch from the top. The cable car ride gives you spectacular views while ascending and descending
S.
This place wasnt in our itinerary but since we had time in christchurch, we went for this..eventhough the ride up or ride down is that great as compared to other gondolas, the summit view is excellent!!!
Good shops/eateries also above...
T.
Took my grandchildren today, great ride with great views of Christchurch, they have a wonderful shop and restaurant, a time tunnel, you will spend a lot of time looking around
R.
A must do. 😁 Simply Beautiful.
