Reviews of Otaio Beach
H. M.Very nice beach especially the estuary area. The beach front is very eroded and so it us hard to actually get to the Beach.
Nice spontaneous spot
T.New Zealand is pretty huge on protecting their land which is a great thing! It also makes it very hard to find a place that isn’t overwhelmed by tourists. This place is wicked secluded. Super pretty! Really peaceful. Found by accident while driving by Otaio Cemetery Road - which is where we parked and walked the rest of the way down. Also this is not a place for more than one car as there really IS NOT actually parking spots. Sort of had to make-shift one while still allowing traffic to go by in the field.
There are cactus imbedded within the path on the way down to the beach - I fell and smushed my hand right on a cactus not fun. Cloud banks can roll in hard and look like a wild storm - it’s kind of scary like them movies 😂 I’ve never seen anything like it. I don’t want to say it’s just a pebble beach because it does thin out to where you can take off your shoes. Definitely some really color stones here. Majority black.
