Reviews of Riccarton House and Bush
A. M.
Beautiful venue, clean and tidy.
Went here for the Saturday food market - they could do with a lot more bins to take care of the overflow, but all the stalls were great, niche little artisan foods.
Recommend the Okonomiyaki guy and Italian couple making hot pasta!
S. Y.
It was a great place to take the grandchildren in the holidays. They had a mobile library day with games and activities for the children.
The bird sanctuary and bush walks are great for all ages and abilities.
F. M.
An oasis in a busy area this small predator free reserve is peaceful and lush. Its an easy walk on boardwalks through bird filled bush. I would have liked it to be longer.
H. G. L. N.
This compound is so beautiful. There are many good houses, with gardens, trees, flowers. The bush on Sat morning is a farmer market where the local come to buy good, organic stuff or have breakfast, coffee. I like the comminity supporting local business. People are friendly.
C. O.
A beautifully restored homestead with indoor dining, and outdoor dining with views of the river. Also there is a bush walk through Dean's Bush with much birdsong, and birdlife. The walk is wheelchair, and pushchair friendly in parts. Or one can just picnic on the river. A wonderful place to visit
S. M.
Went for a lunch with friends. They had a couple of big parties in but they handled it all brilliantly. The staff were amazing, food delicious and atmosphere fantastic.
One word of advice, it may pay to book as the day we went it was pretty full. A+++
C. M.
Was a very nice walk and had very nice large trees. The area also had very good roses and a nice little creek and the very nice building.
C. C.
Had a quick browse through the Saturday market held close to the old Dean's homestead. Parking was a bit difficult but found a park within walking distance. A good range of locally produced produce available. This is set in the park-like grounds of the homestead.
o. m.
Lovely place, unfortunately rour was booked out when we got there. Still glimpse was wonderful. The little piece of wilderness was great to wander through and see the Fantails flitting around. Lots of ducks on the little stream also.
R. B.
Went here for a work dinner. It was a three course meal. First course of pork belly was good, lamb was slightly over cooked and the Tiramisu was not even remotely close to a Tiramisu. It tasted like burnt caramel and had no coffee in it. Not sure I'd come back.
S. H.
A very lovely place, yet another great location for a walk with the kids
On a hot day, within the bush it is quite cool (temperature wise) enough talking points for those who are wanting to give an educational visit. Possible to walk around the few tracks for an hour with stops to read the signs that are placed throughout the area.
R. M.
Gorgeous place to visit in Christchurch. Lovely old house and gardens. The old bush is a nice walk. And the Saturday markets are a must visit. Outstanding place for photo opportunities.
R. B.
Riccarton Bush gives You the adventure feeling of a jungle tour, an extraordinary expierience when You think You are in the middle of a city...
I highly recommend a guided tour through the Riccarton House. It is done by John Hoskin. He was born in 1937 (!) and is such an honorous person who combines fantastic knowledges with a brilliant sense of humor, so that is an absolut pleasure to follow his words and get part of the journy to the past and learn about the historic and familiary background.
In combination with the friendly cafe with the good tasting offers we had a perfect day.
Thank You very much.
M. H.
The forest at Riccarton Bush is a hidden paradise. I embarked on a 1.5km walk through its winding paths, and the experience was otherworldly. Surrounded by native New Zealand trees, it felt like I was exploring an untouched wilderness. The serene beauty of this forest was truly enchanting, and I half-expected to see Tarzan swing through the trees. A must-visit for nature lovers and adventurers! 🌿🌳🏡
Look up and around you and you will find a lot of birds 🦅 mainly pigeons.

A peaceful gathering of some of the oldest trees.

Lovely Historic Place to visit for a Meal/Drink and take in the great view. You can take a Walk around the grounds too🤩
B. M.
Bit early for a coffee but great for an early morning walk in the garden, admiring all the old trees of which there are many specimens
T. D.
Very nice Victorian style mansion. The garden is absolutely stunning as well with the lovely stream, animals and splendid flowers. It’s just that the cafe within closes way too early.
M. M.
Amazing place, had our wedding there. Incredible food the whole experience was fantastic & hassle free. The team led by Amanda was absolutely brilliant. We couldn't have asked for a better place. Thank you.
J. H.
House tour was fascinating. Food at the restaurant was excellent and the staff were lovely. The bush walk is amazing - a shame there’s nothing else left on the Canterbury plains.
M. K.
Nice quiet restaurant in a well kept historical building situated in the park .. finishes lunch at 3pm -
..still coffee and cake available
C. B.
Stunning!
Great restoration work, it really takes you back to it's original time. Really gives you the feeling of travelling through the eras with each addition of the house showing beautiful characteristics of it's time. The giude does an amasing job at going through the history of the house and the family from the start to the end. Could not recommend this place more!
Bonus: there a small bush of native trees just outside the house, perfect quick walk.
E. S.
The market on Saturday is one of the best in Christchurch. Definitely recommend getting the steak sandwich.
M. B.
This place has a lot of history. Amazing place to visit. Love the Ambience and a the food is amazing the staff are very friendly. There is outdoor seating as well. They do events too. And they are very nice place. Its a lovely. They have smallwater stream running and a huge garden. Parking is free. Must visit if you are in Christchurch.
S. P.
Always wonderful to visit Riccarton House and Bush, and today was no exception. The house is looking so good after having been painted recently. The flowers are welcoming.
S. G.
prettyyy very cute ducks
T. “. o. L. M.
Beautiful location to stroll around for the weekend. The morning Market is also worth a visit. There is lots of yummy food and goodies.
J. W.
Riccarton house has a cafe and function rooms. With lovely outlook. Always a pleasant place to visit with cycle/walking trail through the garden. Then you can cycle to the Canterbury university on more cycle routes. There is also a protected forest walk.
D. B.
Beautiful location that feels like you're in the countryside rather than in the middle of the city. Missed the tour of the home but the foyer is incredible.
S. M.
Really nice market on Saturday mornings from 9 to 12. Great choice of food and fresh produce from the stalls.
S. Z.
Came on a sunny Saturday with warm weather. Nice place to walk around.
M. M.
Lovely place to spend an evening. Wheelchair and pram friendly premices and great seatings near the Avon river with ducks and birds chirping around. Cant believe such a tropical kinda place exists in the heart of christchurch city.
C. C.
Beautiful old house. Didn't go to the restaurant but it seems to be popular. The grounds are pleasant & it's a nice place for a picnic.Toilets available. Parking available but limited.
C. F.
It is quiet and interesting.. great stop for the kids if nearby. Would go out of my way for the market would not for just the park. But great stop of you are close.
L. B.
Beautiful place with a calming atmosphere. Would have no idea you are in a big city once you are on the walking track. Very well maintained track for all ages. The markets on Sat morning are a big must! Fresh veges, flowers, breads, meat and many more plus a good number of hot food options 👌
J. K.
Get a group together and book for the Tea and Tell. Great history lesson; lovely speaker;
Coffee/tea and scones.
K. Y. L. (.
Enjoy delightful loop walks that conveniently connect to the Saturday market next door. While strolling through the area, you'll also have the opportunity to spot various wild fungi along the way
J. F.
A lovely easy walk through tall old native forest. The trails are well maintained, information on the trees and other features is provided, and there is a lighting trail at the moment which is fantastic at dusk.
The gate closes at 6.30 pm at present.
A nice place to go to to be in nature within Ōtautahi Christchurch.
K. T.
I took my wife for a surprise birthday present, I am so glad I did, I would give it 10 stars if I could, the tour guide was xcel, I would love to own a house like it, Cafe staff were xcel
S.
Stunning historic homestead and grounds. Nice to be able to have a coffee outside in the front grounds overlooking the Avon. Loved the NZ native bushwalk
T. D.
Fantastic scones. And the bush is so stunning. Amazing old growth lowland forest! So many birds!!
K. R.
Beautiful house in beautiful garden. Food not cheap but very well done. Yummy. Beautiful Bush walk lots of bird song surprising to find mature Bush in centre of Christchurch.
R. S.
A gem of a place located near Riccarton bush. Was here on a Saturday and the farmer's market was adjacent to this house. There were guided house tours offered at half-hour intervals on Saturday forenoons. The person registering the names for the guided tour was very polite.
R. I.
Their salmon menu is lovely. Can't fault it. My only recommendation: it'd be great if they warm their plate before serving their dish to keep it warm/hot longer. Food went cold very quickly in winter.
k.
We visited Riccarton House bird sanctury with our three young grandchildren. The sanctuary is nestled at the back of the main house and makes for a fun walk in the bush (in the heart of the city). There were lots of informative signs, the track was easily navigated and we even seen some birds. There were lots of interesting trees and even some seats to rest. Riccarton House itself is beautiful, with food and drink on offer for those that wish to stay for refreshments.
H. E.
Really lovely place. The walk around the native bush is enjoyable too. There are often birds circling the house and a very tame duck who is often there. Highly recommended.
R. K.
Great area for a stroll through protected Bush. The path is a slightly raised walkway through the middles if the Bush. We saw so many beautiful fantails and even a completely black one. I call this deans Bush because it is an area developed by the Deans family.
A. E.
As far as location goes this would have to be one of the nicest cafes in Christchurch. Sitting on the verandah or under the umbrellas on a nice day is a pleasant experience. The coffee is pretty good too and the staff are attentive and efficient. The scones with jam and cream are fantastic and reasonably priced. Recommended .
J. L.
A unique heritage place to enjoy a coffee or a tea in the beautiful garden. A cheese scorn was tasty.
J. •. 5. B. Y. a.
Beautiful place, little gem of paradise nestled away in the heart of Riccarton. I highly recommend people check it out. Feels like you are right in the West Coast when you enter the reserve.
G. H.
Recommended by colleagues as a walk place during lunch breaks. Tried once and it’s indeed a good place for a bit me time. Walking under shades created by tall trees around me and hearing birds tweeting is a relaxing experience.
S. E.
Cycled past it multiple times, in a bike route superb park, lots trees greenery with this homestead nestled in. I have not gone to the cafe myself, but a trusted friend did, and he highly rated it. Passed buy while that had their market, the fresh bread stall was so tempting I stored and brought sandwiches for my family to take away, they really can through on taste and quality ingredients. Lots of other stalls there, too, looked like a pretty good market.
R. R.
Great place to hold a special occasion. The Blue Room is very special indeed. Nothing was too much trouble, from meals adapted to special needs, to wine selection adjustment to suit our taste. We even got to select the music 🎵🎶.
Recommended.
K.
Beautiful reserve for a nice stroll. Be sure to take the loop through the woods. Great flora diversity. Gives you an accurate view of the original ecosystem (micro).
D. K.
Overpriced. coffee ☕️ $6+ fries $14+ brought wrong coffee initially, but did change it. Nice setting.
L. R.
Absolutely lovely place, shame that theres a fair bit of litter though. I haven't been here during the market, however as a wee park it is downright gorgeous and relaxing. Enjoyed sitting for a couple hours just watching some ducks swim around and be cute.
A. R.
A real hidden gem in the middle of Christchurch. The Bush is beautiful to walk around and has multiple seats to stop along the way and listen to the birds and smell the fresh smells of native NZ plants. The longer route is 900m but you can take your time. The site shows some colonial history of the area with the historical house and deans house which adds interest to the site. The carpark is fairly small and was busy on a weekday morning, parking may be difficult at more popular times.
P. T.
Great place for us to meet, beautiful scenery, lovely character house turned into a cafe.
L. D.
The brilliant atmosphere, the fresh food, friendly stall owners. Relaxed, and great place to buy and support local produce.
V. H.
Was there fir a school trip. Kids had a fab time. Definitely worth the visit.
K. C.
Brilliant renovations done after the earthquakes.
Grab a coffee and scone and sit in the garden or on the terrace.
Walk through the predator free bush area and watch and listen to the birds.
j.
Georgus wee spot with stunning markets. Really loved this.
The markets have tons of options and lots of different food - including organic options if that's what you're into.
Cute benches by the stream too. However, a few more coffee shops wouldn't go amiss!
H. P.
Beautiful house but tour wasnt very insightful. A quick Google search gave me a huge abundance of info that makes the visit alot more worthy. The adjacent cottage is the first building ever built in Canterbury so definitely a must for the history buff
J. B.
Great place to visit. Historic with a wonderful cafe. Weddings and events also held. Beautiful outdoors. Farmers market on Saturdays. Well kept grounds with protected forest walk way
H. R.
A very pleasant short walk, especially on a hot summer’s day. Two circuits can be taken in the bush, which is surrounded by a predator-proof fence.
B. k.
Lovely place to spend an afternoon. Great food in the cafe.
J. M.
Wonderful family lunch. Great ambiance. Great service.
L. B.
Lovely little walk through the park and even a predator free area to walk in for the birds
B. M. (.
Beautiful place with a vibrant market on Saturday morning... Most pleasant
V. S.
Great market always plan on going when in chch .Love the Sassy Garlic lady's products. Great atmosphere
M. B.
The best place to visit on a Saturday morning in Christchurch. Big range of high quality sellers and goods. Highly recommend a visit!
L. R.
Fantastic Cafe, try the famous cheese scones they won't disappoint 😋 great to have a walk through Dean's bush afterwards. It's like stepping back in time. So much to see inside the house as well
J. L.
Good Saturday market every weekend
Best Thai noodles stall Poms rice noodles and her dumplings are heaven to eat must visit for any one
D. R.
Lovely grounds and bush area.
I enjoyed reading the information panels.
M. L.
Went there for the farmers market that wasn't on that weekend. The bush was definitely a nice walk.
A. M.
Wonderful nature reserve and Gardens to walk around, well maintained gardens and Riccarton Bush is a great native planting and bird reserve with a couple of looping walks through the bush. Great to have this hidden gem in the middle of Riccarton.
H. M.
Very peaceful place.. lovely to meditate in and loved the little fantail
s. v.
Wonderfully preserved forest and plants, as well as the house and estate from mid 1800's.
D. W.
A lovely garden worth visiting, especially on the market day you can enjoy the grounds with a coffee and local produce
P. n. P.
It's very beautiful place I recommend to all visitors must go there.
B. S.
Great place to visit, our day was overcast and damp but still did 1 of the walks, even tho we were close to the city we never heard any vehicle noise, lots of birds song tho, amazing
After walk went and had a scone and coffee, very nice as well, sat in a very warm room being heated by open fire
We will do this experience again on a sunny day
Would recommend this to all ages
K. S.
Didn't spend enough time there. Beautiful grounds and a fenced off wood to protect flora and fauna, which you could take a walk through. Nice cafe there.
L. L.
We had a delightful tour of Riccarton House with 84 yr old John Hoskin, our enthusiastic and very knowledgeable tour guide. If you've got the time, John would prefer to spend an extra half hour with you showing you the beautifully decorated rooms and telling you stories about their former inhabitants - so allow 1.5 hrs and you won't be disappointed.
O. C.
Love the scenery and ambiance. Good food
N. K.
Amazing atmosphere. Excellent taste. Good coffee. Great homemade butter with garlic bread. Kindly but slow response.
M. S.
Forget all the modern 'stuff' in Christchurch - there is a historic gem waiting to be discovered. It's not just the grand old house but also the history of the Deans family that captivates the visitor. Guided tours of the house are available at 2pm every day except Saturday. The well trained guides tell the story of the Deans family and how it all began and take the visitor through the lovingly restored and furnished rooms of the house. The highlight for me was Jane Deans' room - a relatively small room where she lived from 1856 until her death in 1911. The visitor can see the leather kidd gloves John Deans gave her when he left Scotland for New Zealand. Jane waited for him for 9 years until he finally asked for her hand in marriage. She kept these gloves all her live...
A. G.
Amazing architecture. Went there for coffee. Good staff. Definitely recommend.
M. M.
I always go to Ricarton Bush Gourmet Market if I am in Chch on a Saturday morning. I had a BLT from Bratwurst Grill.Great value and so tasty.Stalls representing all nationalities are there and lots of free tasting of all the edibles available.
a. e.
Its buityful, calming. If you like walking in the forest. This is the place to go to.
M. R.
Nice area for a walk, lovey gardens and bush area. The makert is great too
M. H.
A really wonderful historic park to explore and enjoy
N. U.
A beautiful park setting along the Avon river. Pristine preserved native forest. An exceptional morning market here every Saturday
A. C.
Riccarton Bush, Pūtaringamotu, is a tranquil oasis on a hot day.
R. L.
Took my mum to see Riccarton House - we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. Beautiful place, would definitely recommend this as a must see.
H. L.
The bush markets here on a Saturday are amazing. Be prepared for a bit of a walk from your car but we’ll worth it. The Dutch stall is my favourite.
G. C.
Beautiful green oasis just minutes from the hectic, busy streets of Riccarton. Perhaps smaller than one might imagine, the bush walk is tranquil and very enjoyable. It’s amazing to imagine thet much of the Christchurch area at one time looked like this. Well worth a visit. Cafe was closed but setting looks idyllic
U. K.
Early morning visit was refreshing. Good shopping at the food stalls. Great coffee, but it was a lot of time to wait for it.
T. W.
Great morning with fantastic markets held in the grounds.
J. W.
Julia and I loved our visit with Rod and Glenys and can't wait to return
M. D.
Every Saturday I attend the Christchurch Farmers Market here but it is so much more than a Saturday venue - try afternoon tea !
c. r.
This place is just magic. The walk is a treasure and uplifting.
J. H.
Coffee was great, young person serving was also very nice. I had to go to the counter to order my coffee and took our 18 month miniature poodle in with me, a short stout lady told me " no dogs allowed in here", I wish there was clear signage telling me that. They are dog friendly outside. Otherwise, very pleasant.
J. S.
Lovely walk, we only did the short walk, was easy with the pushchair. Lots of birds to hear and see. Food was lovey and the staff were great.
J. N.
Fascinating tour.... so.much bigger than I thought, so many interesting details from the ghost stories to the fabulous furniture and artefacts. Very much worth a visit. Very knowledgeable guide. Very pleasurable experience. Thank you.
C. A.
Lovely and peaceful. Great coffee too
M. P.
Very nice and clean park near the river.
K. W.
For those who love to support community market, buy organic fruits and vegetables, and take a liking towards any organic products eg. Honey, pastries, etc..., this is the place you should come and visit. Price would be slightly above average but with a nice view and surroundings, and keen to support the local market, why not?
T. A.
This reserve is a slice of paradise in the city. It is always a wonderful visit. I leave feeling so peaceful and rejuvenated every time.
L. M.
Beautiful historic house, great cafe inside and outside with lovely garden and nearby historic native bush
J. R.
Absolutely beautiful location. Riccarton house is stunning. We were there for an event with a set menu and bsolutely everything we were served was delicious. Amazing food, very helpful and friendly staff all topped off with an amazing atmosphere. Will definitely be back to try some of the regular menu items. And of course riccarton bush is gorgeous as well.
S. H.
Worth a Visit. Beautiful house in a beautiful surroundings. Very peaceful and good to see what was reflective of the country in Victorian era
f. k.
Beautiful setting, great place to walk around what's left of the market ~ many gaps!? Not as humming as it was 18 ~ 24 months ago, its stall holders have dwindled, sadly. Still there's the peaceful walk through Riccarton Bush. Never been that fussed on the coffee ☕️ shop / cafe in the big house ~ better food and coffee with the stall holders 😊
A. K.
Great location, close to Avon River. Very pleasant surroundings in the Bush. Food is delicious, and so is their hot chocolate. Highly recommended.
R. K.
Turned up for a tour, and very kindly allowed to join a pre-booked private tour, rather than wait 3 hours for the next publically available 2pm tour.
Diane the guide was hugely knowledgeable, and great insight into the Dean family, and how the house and environs came into being.
(Would happily spent more time drooling over the wonderfully crafted furniture and furnishings).
Had a delicious (impromptu Valentines Day meal) lunch at the cafe, prior to the fascinating trip into the remnants of the native swamp and Bush reserve.
Wonderful day trip and many thanks to all the staff who could not have been more kind and helpful.😃
D. M.
Absolutely loved Riccarton Bush. Such a gorgeous space to see Native New Zealand. So thankful that this part of our history has been preserved for us to enjoy to this day. If History is something that interests you then I recommend this whole space. The house and Dean's Cottage is really neat too.
E. E.
Awesome cuppa of tea at Riccarton house and walk in the bush
M. D.
Went on market day, lots of lovely food!
B. 8.
A great place to meet family and friends for a coffee or brunch. They only do breakfast on Sundays and special days, like fathers day etc.
L. R.
Shared cycle path goes through here which is good for getting to/from city to university.
Riccarton house was open for refreshments at time of passing through. Stopped for another of the elephants in the series
K. Q.
Lovely place, nice for a walk or a coffee or even the Sunday Market
S. B.
Lovely place for a cuppa, with nice surroundings, a bit of bush, river, flowers in the garden and big shady trees. Good place to walk a little, breathe fresh air in the bush and have a cup of coffee! Does not open on Saturday, however there's a market in the morning, selling food , fresh produce and some meat, eggs, etc.
A. B.
Lovely place for a stroll. Good coffee at the Cafe 'Hummingbird'
K. S.
Fabulous Christmas Lunch. Experience was on point
P. S.

this place is superb

An excellent restoration of a fine old homestead. The Cafe here has a very good menu and is of high standard. Efficient and communicative staff. The Bush Walk is superb and suitable for all levels of mobility.
R. M.
Such a beautiful place to come and have a picnic with friends and family. The market on Saturday morning can get quite busy so be sure to give yourself plenty of time as you will want to try everything ❤️
K. C.
Stunning place to spend some time! Great coffee from the Cafe and a tranquil setting to sit under a kòuka tree and read a book. Next visit will involve a walk in the bush. Wonderful bird song fills the air.
K. B.
Great market with an amazing world wide selection of foods.
The area has been well looked after and is always presented well.

Riccarton House and Bush is a popular tourist attraction in Christchurch, known for its historical and natural significance. Visitors can enjoy good food and coffee while taking in the beautiful surroundings of the Avon River. The atmosphere is full of good vibes, making it a great place to relax and unwind. Overall, it's a great destination to explore and experience the beauty of nature and history in Christchurch.
P. M.
Great place all the time. Cafe is lovely with lovely staff but a little pricey so just check you are ok with the price of what you are having. The Bush walk is a must. Freshest air in town probably. There is a market here on Saturday mornings which is very nice to come to.
M. “. A.
The setting, as always, is very nice. I visited the garden/ park and house for a coffee and a snack.
I was disappointed at the lack of diversity in the otherwise Beige Food Display. No options for gluten free or vegan.
The $6 glass of juice seemed overpriced.
On top of that I felt uncomfortable with the bird flying all over the room (they release droppings every 15-60 minutes while flying or perching), walking on the tables and eating from unsupervised plates: Very unhygienic. Not happy.
D. T.
Lovely period building. Great atmosphere and furnishings. And very helpful staff.
S. L.
Went to the Riccarton Bush farmers market. Not a massive market lots of great food and produce.
I. K. S.
It's a place to feel peace and connectivity with nature. A walk through the bushes is always enchanting with the oldest trees in the area. Kids love to run around and climb up the trees by the river while you enjoy coffee at the cafe.
S. D.
We come here every weekend for the Christchurch Farmers' market. The markets are great with lots of different stalls selling food and fresh produce. It is very close to the city and can be easily accessed by bike due to the bike lanes and paths. The grounds are large and well maintained. Riccarton House is quite nice as well.
A. T.
Love this place. Good atmosphere, great staff. Lovely place where to chill out. Recommend
S. V.
Saturday market. There's not enough toilet for the public ...but the fruit, veggies, food stalls are great. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere is what you need to start your day.
L. T.
This is a wonderful place to visit for lunch or a coffee date. It has been so beautifully restored and we enjoyed looking at all the historical things around the place. The service was great and delicious food. What a treat to sit outside in the sun enjoying the lovely gardens while we ate our lunch.
D. C.
Great place for morning tea with friendly staff and great coffee!.
N. R.
Great Saturday Markets and just a generally great spot for an afternoon outside, regardless of the weather always lovely.
W. N.
Lovely place for a farmers market
S. K.
Farmers Market is held every Saturday. You can get good soup, manuka honey, bread, cheese, vegetable, and so on,
R.
Great setting. Even better varieties of food choices. Currently addicted to the fantastic steak sandwich from Dekkers🤙
S. N.
Highly recommend a guided tour to provide insights into both indigenous and European history of this area. A fascinating trip through some of New Zealand development.
P. L.
Very comfortable accomodation. Excellent dining room facilities with a varied menu to suit all tastes.
My order took a long time but three friendly staff were apologetic and a complimentary drink was offered as compensation. The meal was really good when it arrived. Only spent overnight but would have liked to stay longer.

Great wee bush walk in the middle of the city. Then coffee and breakfast in the sun. Super polite staff, tasty food.

A beautiful big park, and a great area to walk around inside of. Free to enter and available most of the day - it's one of the last remaining proper bush areas in Christchurch. Walk around inside and you'll forget you're in the middle of a suburban area, though note that because it's the bush it's probably 2 degrees colder than outside. Takes around 25 minutes to walk around the inside

Riccarton bush is a really amazing place to take the family, easy walk with lots of beautiful trees and native Bush. We didn't see to many birds but you can hear them. Also has a lovely cafe there to enjoy the sun

A beautiful area of native Bush. Wheelchair friendly main track, off the main track not wheelchair suitable. Nice cafe for coffee at the Dean's homestead. Watch the step down into the information room, I missed the sign and gave myself a hard jolt.

Excellent place for walks biking or coffee

I brought a Year 12 History class here a few months ago. We did a tour of the house and a guided walk through the bush. It was an amazing experience. Entertaining, but also very educational. The staff were friendly and informative and what we saw in the house and bush had real impact. The teenagers were all very positive about their trip and remained focused for the whole time we were there. Thanks a lot. I will be back with other groups in the future.

I love this place - it's a really special piece of Christchurch, both the amazing old Villa which was done up after the earthquakes and the actual bush. There's a walk through the bush that takes about a half hour to wander through and it's the closest you'll get to proper old native bush without having to drive out of the city. Lots of fantails and kereru (the big native pigeon) and other bird life and fun little informative plaques that kids can spin.

A beautiful, elegant, soaring estate suitable for functions of large gatherings.

Has a great short bush loop walk for kids that gives them an idea of what canterbury used to look like. The house is beautiful and has a great cafe in a relaxing setting. They also give house tours.

Lovely old building in pretty gardens. Also a native Bush walk in the middle of the city

We went to the Farmers Market (Saturdays). I love coming here and experiencing the locally made products. The baked goods are yum, especially the Bacon Bros bacon burgers and Badass Brownies.

An amazing setting in the middle of the city. Beautiful homestead with friendly & attentive staff. LOVE that much of the produce from the cafe comes from the garden and grounds surrounding the homestead. Lovely setting next to the Avon where a highly protective female Pūtangitangi was protecting her babies, and supervising their swimming lesson!
Beautiful bushwalk to boot, enjoyed by a fair amount of people for late morning on a Monday.
Kids had a great time here.

Get the famous cheese scone.
Also lovely to see native bush in the heart of the city!

Awesome place to go for a walk through a nice peaceful forest. Lots of choices or distances to chose from beautiful. Love walking my peeps through there as they find it relaxing and the fan takes are so friendly and tend to show off.

Satisfactory lunch, the bruschetta, at an interesting, historical building.

A quaint heritage house by the stream with nice shady garden to explore.

Beautiful place and the regulaŕ market has wonderful food with vegetables at great prices. If I lived in Christchurch, I would have been a regular.

Nice peaceful park. Good shade under the towering trees. Historic Cottage. A cafe in a Historic House and a stream with ducks in it. Markets on Saturdays. What more could you want

Popped in randomly on a Saturday and found the farmers market in full swing - so much stuff on offer to try and buy! Brought some bits for lunch and a coffee, and had a wander round Riccarton Bush too so made for a nice morning out. Will take more people to visit now I know it's there...!

Pleasant surroundings, beautiful bird calls.
Home to the best piece of native bush in Christchurch. With upgrades planned for the near future, the pest controlled bush walk experience should go from great to world class…

Very nice place, especially you can found lot of good fruits and vegetables. Homegrown and homemade.

Riccarton House is a fantastic venue for private functions. We had our wedding here recently which was made extra special with the help of the team at Riccarton House. The whole team was attentive and helped our day run smoothly from start to finish. An extra shoutout to Amanda for being there on the day and making our night perfect.
The catering was excellent quality. The food and drink selection was divine!
Highly recommend visiting for any event you are planning, or even just for a coffee break and a tour of the House. 11/10

Lovely site for farmers markets on Saturday mornings with plenty of fine produce on offer. Be prepared to wait a while for coffee as the organisers have opted to allow only 1 coffee stand and seriously struggling with service even with 5 seemingly inexperienced staff on board.
A decent barista would fix this.

Gem of a park in the city. A short stroll in the forest walk and you are a world away. Plenty of wildlife for those quiet to enjoy. Saturday morning market just outside makes it worth the visit.

Dined simply at the restaurant onsite, 'The Quarters'. A simple garden salad and a simply spectacular tiramisu.
Setting, scenery, location and natural ambiance, all on a beautiful summer's day, were unmatched for me. The eatery was busy, service therefore reflected staff stretched to cope with so many patrons. The food was excellent and the staff delightfully attentive given their challenging workload.
Further, a walk though the stunningly beautiful Dean's bush reverse, adjacent, behind Riccarton House, was and absolute revaluation. Industrialized housing development has prevailed at great natural cost, to say nothing of the disrespect to local iwi.

We had a high tea for a hen's party - the atmosphere and food were beautiful! Thank you Serena for making it a perfect day for us!!

Lovely location with the bush and river. Good coffee and friendly staff.

Most awesome place especially for lunch. Great good and service.

Never been inside as it not very inviting. Staff come across as snobby as the customers inside. The walk around the bush is always great and the grounds are nice for a stroll too.

Riccarton historical jungle area is very close to the city, it is a good place to relax and enjoy the tranquility. If you come, remember to coordinate the time to visit the room. We spent about an hour relaxing in the jungle, so if you also want to be in the jungle To relax, you need at least two hours.

The Last Martini Show here was the most excellent venue to select. The food and martinis served were exquisite! Overall a fabulous evening in a beautiful building with delicious food and high quality entertainment.

The coffee and food are absolutely fine, and the historic house and surroundings (a large park-like garden, a stream with ducks, and a bush / bird sanctuary) are very relaxing; easy to forget you're a 5 minute walk from the busy Westfield and main road.

The Saturday Farmers market is awesome

We visited Christchurch and had the morning free before our flight back to Auckland so decided to do a tour of Riccarton House.
Anita was our tour guide and I highly recommend her for her knowledge of the house and area. She was friendly and interactive and answered all our questions. We really enjoyed ourselves and will visit again when we go to ChCh again to do the bush walk.

The eggs benedict sets an extra high bar... no one elses so far could come close. Friendly service. Loved the bush walks
