Reviews of Rutherford's Den
J.
Well presented history of the famous NZ scientist. On the to floor, it's fun to walk into an old lecture theatre with original creaky floor and Inkwell desks. Uses a good mix of audio, visual and tactile displays across the floors. I doubt it's wheelchair friendly. Buildings of that era just weren't...
B.
Open again post-Covid. A great memorial to the greatest citizen of New Zealand. Thoroughly recommended.
Shop closed but staff member was happy to get some T shirts from storage for me to purchase. Best quality T shirts that I have been able to find at a reasonable price. An online store may be opened soon.
D.

It was very educational learning about a very clever kiwi.. We went to tick some boxes on our youngests children's University passport I'm so glad I went along.. Knowledge is extremely important.
W.
Arrived right on closing time but the lovely lady in charge allowed us to go in. It was a very special experience for me to sit in the lecture theater. Thank you for your kindness.

Great place to know about the Ernest Rutherford "The Second Newton". There are so many stuffs which was used by Rutherford during his masters in Canterbury University and about his life. If you are a science lover than this is the place in Christchurch you must visit.
G.
A little gem. Enables you to understand the problems with the early research into radioactivity.
The old lecture theatre is brilliant. Just need a donation to enter.
P.
Fascinating little museum in a beautiful building with a million layers of history. Hands on science exhibits were good, interactive information boards really interesting. But highlight was old lecture room with about 200 years of graffiti carved into the wooden stalls, plus Rutherford’s first little experimental space hidden away beneath the lecture room. Chilled and relaxed, we were the only ones looking round when we were there. Recommended.

Loved the names etched in the desks
Amazing history

It is an interesting place. We spent quite a long time there. Recommended to all.

Nice exhibits. Lovely old lecture theatre. The actual den is an empty basement. Maybe fill it with some period scientific instruments. History will forgive you.
I'd been meaning to go here for years, and I wasn't disappointed. But I'm not sure I'd recommend it either.
B.
