This restaurant is at the beginning of the hiking trail, and you can come here for lunch before hiking. There are many choices of drinks, food choices are not bad, and the service standard is quite high. The restaurant has both outdoor and indoor options. Indoors are a good choice if you are afraid of the sun. There are many mugs hanging on the wall in the restaurant, which is quite interesting. In terms of food, I ordered a hamburger and fries meal. The portion was quite large, and the taste and production level were good. You can give it a try.

Great location, character filled charming building, lovely views, great food (I had French Toast) & coffee served by friendly staff. What more could you want?

Great place to sit down, amazing view and good service

Sign of Kiwi: Great place for sit down lunch or just a coffee; we had a hot lunch and were not disappointed lovely food and great service. Wonderful atmosphere and the view amazing. Very quiet and peaceful sitting indoors or you can sit outside in the sun. They were quite busy while we were there but there was no long wait for service. Would recommend this place 100% Outstanding food and service.

Lovely view and cute cafe. Unfortunately the coffee is pretty average and too milky. Also an iced coffee or iced chocolate is $9.50- and definitely not worth that! Pretty much 80% cream and icecream and hardly any milk or coffee. Hot chips were yum, but the aioli given with them is so watery.

Went here Easter Saturday for a drive and coffee & cake. The coffee was outstanding, and hot, and the warmed, very slightly baked banana cake with home made yoghurt was to die for. A nice drive up there and fantastic partial view of Christchurch City. Will definetly go back

Food is yummy and staff are friendly as well as the view from above is Es Pec tac ocular!

Seems they're famous for the scones which is chunky and mouth fully and fresh won't say the best but there's potential with bit of flavor. The history and location is an attraction for a must stop. If it's raining it will be space limited as not made for big groups but once the sun rays starts to shine having a cup of coffee is enjoyable outside as much as it is inside.

Great spot for brunch, lunch or coffee. Great views, friendly staff. Eggs Benedict (aka The Kiwi Stack) not so great: Rosti on the crunchy side of cooked, and eggs solid, not runny. Excellent coffee made up for this minor fault.

Fantastic views and really friendly service... a must sww if visiting Christchurch. Food and coffee were also really good at reasonable prices.

Great views and special site - very well run and the food great - have your coffee break amongst the fine garden setting with the native birds and sweeping views of the city .

Great food both cooked for you or already prepared in the cabinet. Smoothies, coffee, Ice chocolate, teas and more. Great customer service but did get given the wrong coffee 🤔 otherwise great views and busy as.

Tucked up on the Port Hills this lovely cafe is a welcome break for tired walkers. Jammed packed with gorgeous, fresh food and great coffee, it's definately worth a visit. Try their beautiful home made date scones - they are terrific!

I have been here three times. I like the coffee and cakes in this shop. It is in Victoria Park. There is no bus to go there. If you want to come here. You have to drive or bike. All of the coffee and cakes are extremely delicious. Cakes are not too sweet and the prices are very affordable. Besides drinking and eatting.you can have a scenic view of the whole city and mountains surrounding you. The waiter are very friendly. They always smile and joke. What's more there are several tracks near the shop. You can have a wonderful walk after enjoying yourself here. It's an amazing place and i recommend it.

Perfect coffee which I was very happy about as it's been a while, we had an excellent savoury scone (although we did have to ask to have it warmed up) and a great lemon meringue slice. Go enjoy a coffee with the view!

Get there early for their scones! Genuinely kind people (shoutout to Sam the barista) and excellent local food and coffee. Great trails right out the front door and some of the best views of Christchurch and Governor's Bay.

Savoury scone was the nicest I have ever tried, service amazing, views amazing. The building dates back to 1860 but it has been really nicely preserved. I recommend not to expect to find a car park so be prepared to walk and be patient and kind to others.

Magical. We love walking the Harry Ell track to the Sign of the Kiwi cafe and having a coffee and eats or an icecream, children friendly and fab views.

Great spot on a sunny day, was super busy, liked it so much the first day we came again the next. Good coffee, loved the soup, French pear tart and they really do make a fabulous date scone.

Every visit is a fabulous time. Some girlfriends and I did a lunch date here and a drive down to Lyttelton and through Sumner. Love the vibe, the drinks and the food. The owner is lovely. The view is amazing. Got the cheeseburger and chips and it hit the spot.

I must say that some of the cabinet food is really good, and the scones are very nice too. Can't say the same about the coffee, though. The main reason I'm only giving three stars is the inconsistency of the info on their website. I've recently noticed they advertise an all day breakfast, which I found really exciting. Well, the ALL DAY part is a big fat lie. When I got there at 3pm I found out the kitchen was closed and apparently had been closed since 2pm. The opening hours are also pretty confusing because it's till 3.30 on Google and till 5.00 on weekends on their website. Oh, and to add to this, the manager (the owner? the old bold dude) seems to like having annoying conversations with customers. While I was there he decided to talk to a family sitting next to us. It was clear that two of them didn't understand him much and the third, who could, wasn't happy with this sudden attention. Yet the dude proceeded to tell them random facts about their country of origin. It seemed like there would be no end to him talking. Really made me understand what an acquaintance of mine meant when she said the guy was weird and was really pushy trying to sell wine to her.

Great place to chill out after a nice walk in the surrounding tracks. And if the weather is warm enough you can have a nice ice cream. The snacks are good but nothing exceptionnal. And the last time we visited, they were already out of scones at 11am...

Very pricy! I didn't like the large sausage roll but I really enjoyed my iced mocha! There's was good places to sit outside and the walking track was close by to work off those calories 😉

Highly recommend. We stopped in for brunch after wandering the port hills tracks. The staff very very friendly . Food and coffee were both very good. Nice strong coffee and I had a beautiful berry slice. The scones were also very good.

Just loved this place! A stone cafe in the hills above Governor's Bay, Christchurch. Knick-knacky, hospitable, great staff and great food and beverage variety. Highly recommended... I would love to return to the cafe should I have opportunity when visiting Christchurch. Though I am mobile, there isn't good wheelchair access here...

Had an awesome date scone (best date scones in town!) and a cuppa while sitting admiring the view over Christchurch and the Southern Alps. Such an awesome place.

Rarely do I visit a cafe where the food served is beyond expectations, usually when it's pretty good I'd give a five star rating, but the atmosphere, view as well as the quality of the meal made me want to recommend this place to any friend of mine who will visit Christchurch in the future! A regular pit stop when walking up the hill. It has it all. Beautiful views, delicious food, amazing coffee, excellent customer service and dog friendly. It's a nice spot to stop for some respite from the elements or just because.

This historical rest stop for settlers is now an excellent cafe rest your legs after a walk around Victoria Park or as a pit stop for those who plan to bike around the port hills. Good coffees, ice-creams, delicious cabinet food and spectacular views. Use the restroom, fill up your water bottle and carry on towards Sumner, Lyttleton or the Banks Peninsular. Ample bike parking available.

Awesome place with an amazing view. We love it ! You'll be serve quality food and a nice organic coffee. Wide range of hot or cold drinks (and organic juices !) and food (vegan slices, vegetarian and GF meals, wow !). I definitely recommend this place whereas you're with friends or family. It's incredible. And icing on the cake you can loose the calories you've just eaten/drunk by walking or biking on the beautiful tracks/trails all around the place. If you're around Christchurch don't miss it !

One of my favorite cafes in Christchurch. Great position up in the Port Hills. the coffee is fantastic and the food is really well served with great portions and a decent menu. A lot of hikers mountain bikers and riders stop here as the traverse the summit road and Christchurch adventure park so its always bristling with activity

Super cute cafe on top of a high up hill with spectacular views. Bathrooms are clean, so if you're up this way and need to go, this is a good spot to check out. There are also a number of hiking trails right by this cafe, and the views from these paths are even better!

I guess this spot is the most beautiful coffee place of Christchurch .. Location is stunning (views on Christchurch & Bank peninsula) . My partner and I love to stop before or after our Ports Hills exploration tour. Coffee is tasty, place is relaxing, staff is welcoming and price affordable. I really loved the date scone (not too sweet).

Use to love this place. Still a nice seating area but disappointing service and sarcastic staff. WORST hot chocolate I have ever had in my life, very milky. Coffee was ok. Slices were actually very good (avoid dry brownie though). Over would be a 2.5 but views give it a 3

Not much choice of ice-cream, but really good!! Also, I think there is no need to say it is in a pretty good location!! They should get the bar bigger indoor anyway, since it is pretty small. Overall really recommended.

Great place for lunch - The owner is full of character was very busy but obliging and found us a nice table with a beautiful view over the city. Food was great – Home made grandmas recipes. Yummy Steak and Vege Pie, Louise cake and coffee.

One of the nicest places for a coffee in Christchurch , typical new Zealand nice view up on the hill, good choice of coffee and food, but those scones, well you just have to have one, they take some beating. Coffee not as good as yesterday unfortunately, but we will pay many more visits.

Good staff, good food, good coffee. We had a nice time there and it was the perfect place to go as a family of 5 before doing some of the local walks. Btw, the date scones are brilliant!

Nice hot choc and great selection of slices and muffins. We turned up 30 mins before closing to see they had already started so it wasn't very relaxing sitting with stacks of stools around us and the vacuum cleaner blasting.

My wife and I have been frequenting the sign of the Kiwi CAFE for years and seen it survive and thrive through earthquakes council bureaucracy and new ownership. The staff and food are fantastic and the outlooks well are the best in Christchurch for this type of eating venue. Great job guys, regards Dave and Sue Nuttall

Nice cafe with beautiful view :)

Great to see the owner is willing to spend good money on a new sign that is perfectly in keeping with the ethos of this much-loved cafe. There would have been kiwis roaming through the bush on these hills in the early days. The wooden reminder is made from several pieces of mature timber fitted around stainless steel reinforcing rods, with the swing dampened down with special hinges, and the whole surface coated with 50 layers of preservative according to the craftsman, pictured here, who made the new sign.

Great food and coffee. Take your own cup and leave it there if you are a regular. Well-deserved ice cream for a reward for walking up the track to the top!

What a historic place for coffee, lunch or dinner. I believe it is the only medieval castle like building in NZ. The price is reasonable. The food is good.

Good service, gf food made on site was delicious. Lemon slice to die for. Great range if beverages, I had chilled chain latte. Generous serve. Already planning next visit.

Friendly staff, best scones coffee and refreshment and best view over Christchurch set in a relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of track for your daily walk often above the clouds that can cover our city.

My wife and I have been frequenting the sign of the Kiwi cafe both pre and post earthquake highly recommend it. The staff are fantastic, very accommodating and the homemade chicken pot pie is to die for. Well done guys regards David and Susan Nuttall
