Reviews of TranzAlpine: Scenic Train Christchurch - Greymouth

A lovely 5 hour long train ride and amazing scenery along the way. Stand on the right hand side of the viewing deck going to Greymouth and you will get the best shots.

What a beautiful train ride we had on the transalpine today. The scenery is wonderful, I loved it but what stood out most was the friendly caring service from the staff. Ensuring people of all abilities were comfortable and safe, helping older people on and off the train, ensuring their dignity. Fantastic people and fantastic trip. Jo

Great scenic ride from coast to coast. Comfortable seats, some with tables, with huge windows. If that's not enough, it also has an open-air viewing carriage and audio commentaries. The cafe has few food selections and I personally recommended the lamb shanks. It stops for few minutes at the Arthur's Pass where you can get off the train and take pictures. At the moment it operates only on 2x a week...maybe because it's winter.

One of those must do trips. So relaxing with amazing views throughout. You travel so close to the shore and see seals bathing

It was a great trip. I did it from Greymouth to Chch. If we hadn't left half an hour late, we would have got the scenery we were promised over the viaducts. There wasnt much to see past Arthur's Pass.

Amazing ride that takes you through four or five different climates in just four hours time. From plains to desert to evergreen to tropical and marshland, it's astounding. It's not cheap, but if you love photographing nature, you need to do this.

A world class train trip from coast to coast. Food is pricey and not really a great selection but the scenery is too die for. On of New Zealand’s best train trips.

Amazing journey, definitely one of the best train journeys in the world. The scenery ranges from the coastline to the plains to the spectacular peaks. The view is amazing! The train is very comfortable and even the food tastes good. It's worth it. The scenery outside makes them very happy all the time.

Gorgeous scenery we were lucky to have a clear sunny day after recent snow fall. Fun riding in open air viewing carriage getting photos. Comfy warm carriages with huge glass windows. Friendly staff.

Although still highly priced we thoroughly enjoyed the ride. The history of the region was available with headphones supplied. Great views on such a stunning day. We stopped at Arthur's pass and did bush walks. Plenty of time to return to refresh at the cafe and catch the train back to Christchurch. Would love to do it again.
