I would highly recommend Dargaville Rail Tours, we took our dog along with us on the 7-8 hour trip and I don't know who loved it more, us or her!
There was lots to see from calves, lambs, horses, ponies, even wild piglets and goats on the track, to the beautiful farm landscapes, tunnels and bridges.
Dave and Jeff were amazing guides, very knowledgeable about the history of the railway line and provided lots of laughs as well as delicious scones and sandwiches for morning tea!
The carts are super easy to use, no steering required just use of the accelerator and break.
Will definitely be going back :)
Thanks Dargaville Rail Tours

Booked over the phone, got a good deal for two people. Warm welcoming. Hosts were very informative about the history of the railway and surroundings. Nice surprise with a hot drink and delicious scones provided half way during our journey. Overall awesome experience 🌟🌟

Had an amazing time. Carts were easy to "drive", no real skills required, stop and go, and our guides and commentary were great. I'd recommend it for all ages. A great way spend a morning, something fun and a bit different. Highlight of my trip

This is awesome! It is a different experience of using rail road on a golf cart! Coffee, Tea with scones and Easter eggs (it was Easter weekend). The people who run this are very nice, informative and passionate about what they do. It is a "must do" thingy. Track goes through farms where you can enjoy picturesque landscapes.

We did the trip to Waiotira and back - had a fabulous time. Lovely scenery, home made goodies for morning & afternoon tea, stops along the way for a bit of history of the area, all provided by three adorable men

This is "kiwi as". The gents who run it are informative and helpful. The rail cart run is so much fun even the teenager put her phone away! The scones and tea with a side helping of freshly picked blackberries are perfect. This is a bucket list activity that everyone should do!

We did the rail trip to Tangowahine today and had an awesome time. Loved every minute. A unique adventure on our doorstep. Great guides who are informative and supplied a tasty halfway cuppa with an assortment of baked treats. We'll be back to do a longer trip next time.

Great experience. Maybe someone should chop some bushes off that kept on slapping us on the face. Other than that it was great and so were the staff.

Great trip today, an enjoyable experience, great team. This trip would be ideal for grandparents wanting to take their grandchildren for a day out.

A great day out with the family! The staff were very knowledgeable about the area and happy to share. Morning tea was delicious and the tour was just long enough for active kids to sit. Hoping to take the long trip one day. Thanks!

Although the weather was shower, one shower included hail, we enjoyed our trip on a portion of the rail line from Dargaville to Tangowahine, had scones and coffee, before return to Dargaville. Very informative.

Great day out with old school guides, good smoko and relaxing 🤙🏻

We loved our trip along the rail lines. Out in the countryside on a fun adventure with two great guys- this baby is their passion that gave us a great day to remember.
The tea break with fresh scones was an added bonus would be worth another visit just for those!
Most enjoyable and would highly recommend. Be sure to book ahead.

Great fun for all ages travelling along the tracks in the carts. Easy to drive and manage. The guys were entertaining and the lovely popup scone and tea stall just hit the spot. Yummy scones! Highly recommend this activity to all ages and even for those with some mobility issues (as my friend had). Note try singing a noted Queen (the band) song when the cart is turned around, fits the beat.

This was a great day. The guys who took us were so knowledgeable. The best homemade scones I have ever had made by Dave.
They were happy for us to take our small dog with us.
Thanks guys. Highly recommend this trip.

We had a great time on this tour. The guys running it are informative and great hosts. We had 3 kids and they all loved riding in the karts. Tea and pastries were a nice touch. I highly recommend this for a fun day out.

Had a great time. John and crew were so hospitable and informative on the history of the area. We were really surprised to learn so much. Health and safety were a high priority taken very seriously. The tour passed through market gardens growing kumera. Farmland animals and cow sheds. Great sites and a value for money. Highly recommended. Even provided a choice of tea or coffee and lovely fresh scones. Well done. Glenys and Joe Foster.

The weather forecast was dire ... and John kindly phoned us to see if we wished to cancel/postpone our tour ... but Trudy and I said we'd still love to go and so it was all on. Drove over from Whangarei and the 'station' was nice and easy to find. John greeted us, followed by two other delightful local fellows and we were given a safety briefing then to the carts. Our 3 guides went ahead in the first cart, with us following (by now it was an exclusive tour as no one else turned up, more fool them!) Every time we crossed a road, two of the three jumped out and checked for traffic, and sometimes we stopped so John could give us a quick chat about the history etc. We were dressed for the weather and I suspect even on the hottest day you might need to be prepared as you are open to the elements. The carts trundle along at a sedate pace, plenty of time to take in the countryside, alongside the river at times. Peaceful, fun and not for someone looking for thrills! We reached the stopping point where we were offered tea, coffee and home made scones (yum) quite unexpected and a lovely touch. The carts were turned round and back we went. Brilliant for an unsophisticated but charming couple of hours. Well done guys.

Awesome fun run by some really good guys and gals. And the best morning tea you've nanny would be proud of...

An interesting way to see another side of part of Northland. Informative commentary by John and his crew. A refreshing cuppa and lovely scones at Tangiwahine, then back to the Station. The buggies are comfortable but open enough to see and enjoy the countryside. An enjoyable 2.5 hours. Money well spent.

An informative, fun and a good look at northland NZ. We all enjoyed it and next time we are taking the grandkids. Thanks to the 3 guys for the coffee, tea and scones we all felt we had found another NZ gem.

A really cool unique experience. Had some delicious scones, biscuits and coffee at the halfway point. The guides were super, we really enjoyed it.

Fun trip, even in the cold and rain, amazing scones and cups of tea!

A pleasant couple of hours on a golf cart buggy on railway lines, experiencing the Dargaville countryside. A couple of brief stops along the way where John explained some history and information about the area. A tea stop at Tangowahine with a selection of date, raisin and cheese scones made by Dave (Dinny's Bakery), whilst the carts were turned around. (also portoloos here).
