Reviews of Mapoutahi Pa Site
A.
Beautiful place! It's a mostly flat walk with a short climb up to the Pa site for some wonderful views
R.
Short walk, amazing view and history
L.
Lovely place to walk too. Children need to be supervised at all times. Steep drop offs.
Pa sight is 3 quarters surrounded by sea. Great rock pools at low tide. Dangerous at high tide. No facilities.

Shingle road around estuary road only just above water level. Then walk along 4wd track through pine forest. Can hear sea echoing against stone cliffs. Nice sandy beach. Walkway to pa site was closed because of damage to bridge. Walked to small beautiful beach with view to blueskin bay. Also sheltered area at back of beach for fire pit or camping.

Nice place for a walk at low tide if you're going the long way from the Doctors Point carpark like we did; well worth the walk as there's lots to see in the way. Met some other interesting folk on the way too, both locals and tourists.
May I also take the liberty of saying...
Remember this fact if you are a pedestrian... Watch out for cars... Humans are soft and squishy but cars are hard; cars always win. Brains don't heal like bones.
AND on a lighter note... the more you weigh the harder you are to KIDNAP! Stay Safe; eat chocolate.

Google maps sent me to the wrong place. Nice lookout. But u have to walk a fair way to the site. In saying that this place is a scared site and to be respected. Dirt narrow road to the top. I would have loved to have seen the site. But I can't walk that far.

Beautiful spot! It was low tide at the beach below, so we were able to explore further than usual. Found an intact half of a paua shell and another pretty shell

One of Otago's Early Historic Sites from the Classical Maori Period
A reconstructed model of the Pa can be seen in the Otago Museum.
Later it was a place of early European settlement.
