Great to wander around and through the engine and carriages freely and also to have friendly guys to talk to about personal memories of railway journeys and 4 yr-old boy's reminiscences of soldiers returning from WW2 arriving at the station to excited dolled up fiancee's and wives, mothers and sisters who had sweet smelling perfumes contrasting with soldiers needing a shower and smelling of tobacco. I'm a railway buff. I worked for NZR/NZR Corporation/Transrail/Railnet/Transfield Services/Kiwirail and apart from promotions never changed jobs for 44years. I have since worked for Libbets on, you guessed it,, Rail. Since February I have worked part time on heritage railways for DBM, Gisborne being one of them. They have a classic steam locomotive that was restored from a playground feature, and hats off to them they have done a great job. The track goes from the port to Muriwai 18km and back. Take a ride and give them your support.

(Translated) We are Saturday it is 9:30 am and unfortunately we did not see an indication sign to visit the locomotive. There was no one in the train hangar. Normally there are only 2 days a week on Thursday and Saturday ... But I think it's worth it. We just had no luck XD. (Original) Nous sommes Samedi il est 9h30 et malheureument nous n'avons pas vu de panneau d'indication pour visiter la locomotive. Il y avait personne dans le hangar du train. Normalement il n y a que 2 jours par semaines le jeudi et samedi... Mais je pense que cela vaut le coup. Nous avons juste pas eu de chance XD.
