Great place to visit. Friendly staff and family friendly place. Lots of things to do - look at and feed the animals, ride on a pony, go on the train ride, and feed the lambs milk. There's a playground, toilet, and picnic tables there so plenty of facilities for a day out.

We really enjoyed our time today at the Farmyard Zoo. Our two year old daughter has been telling everyone she meets for weeks that she's going to go in a campervan and ride a pony. She was pretty hesitant at first when the time came but the staff were so helpful and she had a great first ride on a pony and it's been one of the highlights of our trip so far. We loved seeing and interacting with all the different animals especially seeing unique animals that we've never seen or heard of before such as many types of pheasants and the Cape Barren Goose. Thank you for the great family time together.

Had some spare time driving past and decided to drop in . Enough parking for a motorhome . Got toilets ( average ) . Price not bad . Some of the animals , like me should be retired . As a retired farmer the fences , outbuildings where lacking maintenance. The Farm Yard Zoo i believe has been up and running for 25years

We've been before when the kids were quite young and made another visit today. It is largely the same experience, but were pleased with feeding milk to the lambs. It was a great step up from offering corn to the rest of the farmyard animals. It was a bit concerning to see the goat pulling feathers from the ostrich. I hope they have a way to keep this from continuing. The best we could do was feed the ostriches away from the goat.

Great place! Heaps of animals to see, toddler loved it. Would be awesome if the penned animals has some toys / rubs/ haynets to nibble on. Appreciated the playground and shaded picnic tables, and the hand wash station. Will return

An enjoyable place for kids, adults and families alike. You can purchase a cup of maize to feed the animals (excluding pigs, ponies and the eels), most are friendly but watch out for the ostrich, they can be aggressive. A great activity if you are in the area.

Awesome place to visit for families. Great variety of animals you can get up close to and touch, and some you can feed (you buy the feed from reception). We loved the goats, the six legged sheep, the cockatoo (who says hello and goodbye) and the little piglets running around. Also has a playground and picnic area. Highly recommend especially for young children.

Awesome petting zoo for the entire family.... a must visit if you are heading towards Napier/ Hawkes Bay. Loved the staff...they even offered us yummy hot cross bun... kids would definitely enjoy feeding animals. Encountered so many varieties of animals and glad that we can see them so close...will visit again for sure...great work team...

It had great animals and an actual bull!! It was a bit sad when they took out the horse trekking, my daughter wanted to horse trek but they still had a pony ride, the animals were very friendly!

Fun little petting zoo. For $1 you get a cup of corn to feed all animals except for the horses and pigs. They had a variety of animals and birds. It's a great place for children and adults.

Great little farmlet and very children friendly. Hand feeding goats and llamas as well as feeding little lambs bottle of milk. Nice little walk around. Good to see the owners looking after the less fortunate animals

Very good mix of animals with interesting notes about each. Some on display in concrete pens with notices up saying they will be back in paddocks which is correct. Others in paddocks roaming about. We took our elderly Mother there (x farmer) along with her 6 grandchildren and 1 great grand child. Enjoyed by all, excepting the entry pricing/fee. Over $100 for us all. Even though concessions for family, apparently a family is under a certain age and doesn't include a family, so yes entry was very expensive considering it was to take an elderly lady out for some fresh air. Pony ride was enjoyed by the little ones, and pricing was fine for this activity. $6.00 In all, great place, recommend a visit, just watch how many are with you if you are concerned re entry fees.

Walked in and straight away there are animals around. Entrance to other animals is a bit obscure. We were thinking is this it till we went around for a second time. Reasonable selection of animals, although some either not labeled it mislabeled. Good value for the entrance fee but felt a bit disjointed.

It is a good place to take kids. Lots of animals that seem to appreciate attention and you can feed them. Some of the animals are a bit sad but as the farmyard seems to take in these cases that's only to be expected. We stayed a couple of hours and saw how much hard work the staff put on the care side, feeding, grooming, moving.

3 staff on. Understaffed as it was a busy day. Took 3 attempts to get a pony ride and for $6 to only go once around the complex (approx 5-10mins) i thought was abit over priced. Trainride $3 once around complex (approx 5mins). Overall the grandchildren had fun. Bit pricey for what they have.

Coming from Palmy, if anyone tells me they're taking the kids to Wellington Zoo, I'm recommending they head this way instead! Thanks to Charlotte who took my daughter Charlotte on her first (and then second!) horse ride. She LOVED it!

My daughter and I came here on our holiday. We were early but staff was still ready to go and all set up, very inviting. Young girl on the counter was very happy and friendly, even singing to the music. We did a full tour, several pony rides and the train ride. All excellent services. Will be back

We love visiting when we come up. The kids love the animals, love that you can feed the lambs and go on a pony ride. Good playground and all fenced off. Very child friendly! Well worth the visit

Had a wonderful time the grandchildren and all of us thought it was absolutely wonderful. Our only complaint was the young lady that served us when we came in seemed a bit grumpy, and later around by the horse rides when I asked what time they would be starting again, she snapped and said in a second. But as we were leaving, she was quite friendly and said she hoped that we enjoyed our time. The animals, play area etc were awesome. Thank you for all the work that you obviously put into the Farmyard zoo

Pretty cool place to spend an hour or so. There is a good variety of animals which will come right up to you to be fed. The kids were a bit scared of them but good experience anyway. Playground was also very interesting but not good for small ones and some of it could fry an egg in hot weather so be careful.

Visited here on Saturday with my family, the animals were all very friendly. The pigs were in their pens with no food, which was quite sad. The staff were lovely and my daughters loved their pony ride. Went into the small shop to buy food however you can clearly see the best before dates on the packets of chips and they had past there best before, some in may. Brought a couple of drinks of the dollar shelf thinking what a deal but once the kids and I had started drinking realised they were also past their best before date. The playground was lots of fun for the kids to, the kids also loved being able to hold the guniea pigs. The goats were all very friendly, especially the cute brown and white ones, however one looked heavily pregnant and would bunt the other goats. Also one of the fluffy sheep goat like animals had a limp. It was so cool to see one of the ponies and llamas get taken out by the staff members and walked around. Overall a good trip for the kids, they loved the animals and the playground. Reasonably priced, and a good place to spend a few hours. Would be better if they didn't sell expired foods and if the small shop was so dingy, dirty and small. Good place to bring the kiddies in push chairs as is push chair friendly. Would probably visit again

Brilliant value for money. My (nearly) 3 year old loved it and was thoroughly into all the animals. Waaayyyy better value than the aquarium. They have good friendly staff and there is lots to do. We did 70 percent of it and took around an hour although if you really took your time it could be up to 2 hours.

Traveled from Palmerston North today with the kids for a day trip. Loved it. A great place to go. Will be going again. Son loved the pony ride. We enjoyed feeding the animals.And patting them. I highly recommend this to anyone. My nieces had soooooo much fun feeding all the animals. Self guided except for a couple of activities that you could choose to do or not. So totally worth the small entry fee and be warned you will want LOTS of food for the animals.

My kid's really enjoy this place. Bring a picnic lunch. Get one or two of the $1 food cups to feed the animals (1 or 2 per kid) and walk around and feed the animals (be sure to go through the gate into the second enclosure too, as you might think there is only one enclosure). At the end of feeding the animals, wash your hands, eat and have the kids enjoy the playground (can milk a fake cow there, ride a saddle, walk over a shaky bridge, jump on trampolines, go on a big slide and swing on great barrel swings). You can ride ponies for $5 (short walk), ride a modified 4 wheeler turned train for $4 (odd that they put tacky $ signs on the top showing this is something that will make them money). We go about once a year and the kids have a blast. They might even spend more time on the playground than walking through and feeding the animals. I wouldn't go out of my way to drive here from another region of the country; and it is definitely more interesting for kids (if you don't have small kids with you, you might not find it interesting at all).

Reasonably priced and easy to find. Has lots of alpacas, pigs, and goats etc. The whole experience with our kiddo was pleasant and there's a lovely playground with a pirate ship. However, the animals I saw in pens looked very sad and dirty. It seemed like there weren't enough attention given to the animals (compared with, say staglands or the mini zoo in Nelson). Not trying to be mean, just feel bad for the some of the animals as their pen is tiny, maybe they can extend those pens a bit more. Many of the animals had fresh scars on them, I'm guessing from rubbing too hard onto the fences. The cockatoos broke my heart in the tiny cage. The chickens are very happy as they roam freely. Good fun for the kids yeah, but if you're a bit sensitive like me and take note of scars and sad eyes then take heed :-)

WOW. We Visited Today and Had the most Gorgeous Experiene! My Heart Just melted With every Animal on the Farm! Took Loads of Pics and Can't stop looking at Them. Disappointed in the take it or leave it attitude of people working there. The whole place looks tired and needs a tidy up. I took my two grandchildren, who enjoyed seeing the animals, which was a plus.
