Reviews of The National Kiwi Centre
Had a great visit here 2 weeks ago. Beautiful aquariums; fish, turtles, frogs and eels, among other amazing wildlife. Informative panels made for a great educational experience. All really easy to access, and a great kiwi room. The staff at the front were very friendly.
Worth a visit and will definitely come back another time if we are in Hokitika.
Great experience. We stopped in on a rainy day and were really impressed. Fun to see all the different fish. Eel feeding was awesome and the kiwis were very active and fun to watch. A real highlight of our trip. Would definitely recommend.
Visited today with the family and what a special treat! Highlight was definitely the kiwis. Never have I been so close for a prolonged period of time to such a beautiful bird. Staff were wonderful too which just added to the experience. Would highly recommend visiting!
This was a fun stop! The first one of these where the kiwi birds were close to the glass and we could see them! Feeding the giant eels was great fun. We really enjoyed talking with all the staff. Great place.
A lot of fun! lots of fish to look at, Tuarara, eel feeding, which children get to participate in and our national bird.
while we we there one of the Kiwi was running up and down in front of the viewing window putting on a great show for us.
highly recommended.
We had such a fun time here checking out the wildlife, feeding the eels and meeting a very lively kiwi. Absolute gem of a find 🦞🐟🐢 loved how enthusiastic and informative the staff were, thanks for a great day's exploring and learning!
This is well worth a stop. I have been to few kiwi encounters but you would only see a flash of them. These two kiwis were really active and great to watch. Feed some eels and caught a crayfish! Bit of fun for the young and old. Thanks to the friendly staff.
Absolutely awesome recommend to anyone to call in and have a look at not only the kiwis, eels and many species of fish
The aquarium section is boring and decrepit, a series of small tanks filled with largely uninteresting fish and a very large tank filled with even more uninteresting eels. The catch and release crayfish pond is a highlight, although still fairly run down and going in immediately after a large group of kids meant the crays didn't want much to do with us. The kiwi are quite cool and were easy to spot. Although all the staff we interacted were lovely and there were a couple of interesting bits, I would struggle to recommend visiting for the almost $30 entry fee given limited the offerings are and how low-rent the majority of the National Kiwi Centre feels.
