Reviews of Charlies Rock
A.
Very beautiful once you get there, but the beginning of the path seems to have been turned into a drainage channel and fenced off. It was dry though so we gave it a go.
Definitely the most challenging of the Kerikeri waterfall walks I presume due to the flooding. You can clearly see where the river has flooded of the path in places. It was muddy and rocky in places so only attempt if you are comfortable with this.
The kids loved the adventure though and it was certainly the most picturesque of the Kerikeri waterfalls once we got there.
J.
I lost my Apple Watch here, from diving off the far jump. Hope someone can find it one day & use it!
Great spot regardless! There is some shade under trees for a picnic.
A.
The council hadn't repaired the first part of the track when we visited, so we had to climb through a closed track to get there. The rock is great and the kids enjoyed themselves. I would suggest that you need to be a confident swimmer in this swimming hole. Getting into the water involves a climb down and then there is algae on the rock, so easy to slip in the water. Like with all rivers be vigilant.
L.
Well worth a stop when you're up north. There is space beside the river above and below the waterfall that you can access the river and swim. If you're adventurous the locals will show you how to jump off the rock walls safely. Park at the Art's centre/croquet club and walk back up the road to find the track.
N.
One of my favourite places in NZ. Best place to spend a summers day
P.
Absolutely amazing swimming hole. A must do IMO 🤙🏽
S.
Enjoyed the 20-25min level walk from Croquet Club (parking) to Charlie's Rock. Beautiful waterfall.
C.
It was worth scrambling over the rocks to get there. Not a high waterfall but very pretty. You can bomb into the water if that's your thing. Mine is photography and it's perfect for that.
J.
Didn't make it all the way. We had problems trying to find this place and if it weren't for the local club we would probably have not found this place. However, having being told where to start we embarked on the walk which was initially flat and over rough terrain which got rocky as you got close. In the end we decided to abandon. You can see the falls about 200m from it and it does look great. It's not really for your general Joe Blogg touristy walk and appropriate footwear is advisable. It would pay to do this walk before the Rainbow falls which is much more accessible if you wanted to visit both.
D.
Great little walk,, then you get to Charlie's,,absolute must for a swim
G.
Great place to enjoy a summer splash!
П.
Eye-catching waterfall hidden from the main roads, need to take a walk between river and farms fence. Be aware of slippery rocks!
B.
Very pretty waterfalls. Quiet and peaceful
S.
Great swimming venue, water was very nice temperature. Be aware that very great danger of submerged rocks when jumping. That said there are nice jumping spots. Also it is possible to stand up behind the waterfall.
I.
WHERE TO PARK: any public parking near the croquet club on Landing Road
HOW TO FIND THE ENTRANCE TO THE WALK: if you’re facing the croquet club from the street, go to the left most (past their flat green). You will see the small sign stating “welcome to Charlie’s rock walkway”. This walk takes about 10 minutes to the main waterfall. Flat for the first half- not flat for the second. You can walk and some people jump from the top to the bottom. Beautiful, only saw one other couple our whole time here. Would highly recommend for this area!
C.
Was a bit of a walk but the water is so refreshing. Quite deep in places so be cautious if you're not a strong swimmer or with children.
E.
One of the best falls at Northland...accessible, jumping ledge and scenic..
L.
Lovely quiet spot, beautiful views. Easy walk from the road with car parking available
M.
Great falls... The track has some really sticky muddy spots, and some moderately steep slippery sections, but the falls are well worth it. We'd have loved to swim, but between the heavy flow, and the additional run-off after the rain, it wasn't the day for it.
D.
Beautiful water hole with many places to jump off. You can sit under the waterfalls or just wade by the rocks. 7min walk from the carpark which is easier in shoes. Not ideal for prams or bikes.
T.
Tough walk ... but worth it.
S.
Sign is missing from entrance. Climb though the barrier and walk along path.
M.
A Hidden Gem. Park at the landing, cross the road, to the left is the start of the path. About a 10 minute walk, wear good shoes.
Z.
Fun place for young people
J.
Worth viewing and give some nice slow motion photos
A.
Beautiful spot, not the easiest place to swim with little people as it gets deep fast, but definitely worth the 10min stroll in the heat of the day!
J.
Loved it, secret little find thats so cute!
S.
Beautiful spot, takes about a 10 min walk some of which is Rocky and has loose dirt. Great swimming hole at bottom of the waterfall but not very 'little kid' friendly
N.
Great swimming spot. Excellent rocks to jump off
T.
Hidden-away waterfall that's great for jumping off. Perfect on a hot summer day
Z.
Good walk as always. Would have gone for a swim if it was summer
P.
Great value so close to Kerikeri town centre. Water was great, track really needs attention, definitely don't wear your heels.
M.
Nice place to relax &enjoy the beauty of our nature
A.
A bit of a ruggid track. Not recommended for people who struggle with rocks, hills or have impaired mobility.
For those who can, it's definitely worth a shot. Bring a towel. Climb up and make sure you jump as far out as possible!
The water is deep enough for you not to hit the bottom from the top falls but it always pays to check for stuff first
L.
Loved it, an amazing spot!
A.
What can I say... it's an amazing pool.
Not hard to get to, but a little hard to find. We suspect that is partly intentional - so I'm not posting directions here.
C.
First part of track ok - second half not so good, could do with some work by local council, judging by the popularity of the place.
r.
Park by jetty walk over other side of main road to the left. 5 min track to waterfall. Take away your rubbish. We wore jandals / Havianas and they were fine for this easy walk in the dry.
P.
Great fun, Good for a swim. Really enjoyed it.
S.
Awesome spot! The local bros showed us what rocks to jump off and you can sit under the waterfall.
S.
Bit long walk but a nice place for couple of hour visit ..
P.
Long walk, difficult to find start. Swim great! Feels a little spooky, like there should be snakes or something dangerous, but there isn't.
T.
Bit of a walk so don't leave your togs in the car hahahaa heaps of jumping spots.mean swimming spot
D.
If you want to go for a swim on a hot day and you don't want to go to the public swimming pool and the sea is too far, Charlie's Rock is the place to go
R.
Stunning waterfall, take a picnic and go have fun jumping off the unique shaped rocks for a few hours :)
B.
Great water hole. Plenty to jump off.

D.
Cool little waterfall hidden just off the road
C.
One of the best swimming waterfalls I’ve been to! Such a gem
A.
Relatively easy walk. Little bit of rocks which are a bit slippery when it's raining
M.
Refreshing, fun and very worth the visit!

C.

C.

L.
Supet fun for the family
M.
Nice place to swim...
R.
Nice waterfall but a rough walk to get to it.
m.
off road hidden pool. loved it
T.
Park by waipapa landing not in croquet parking (as recommended by Google maps)
Track entrance is behind the metal car barricade and is sign posted
The path is a mud path overgrown and stony in patches, with a mostly level gradient. Suitable for walkers only
Solid shoes recommended. We tried jandals which was precarious on a sunny day
A.
Filled with toxic fish, lots of pollution, 5 stars please don't come here xx

(Translated) Nice short walk and you can also swim in the river
(Original)
Mooie korte wandeling en je kan er ook zwemmen in de rivier
S.
(Translated) Waterfall (small but picturesque) Charlie's Rock - for good weather this is a beautiful and not very tiring route along the Vaipapa river. I think that after the rains the passage is difficult in places.
The beauty is simply indescribable ...
(Original)
Водопад (небольшой, но живописный) Charlie's Rock - для хорошей погоды это прекрасный и не очень утомительный маршрут вдоль речушки Ваипапа. Думаю, что после дождей местами проход затруднен.
Красоты просто неописуемые....
M.
(Translated) Also great for a little refreshment, since you can jump from different places and water.
(Original)
Super auch für eine kleine Erfrischung, da man aus verschiedenen Stellen und Wasser springen kann.
B.
(Translated) About five meters high rocks. Suitable for jumping. No rocks in the water that could be dangerous.
