Reviews of Hawea Flat Whitewater Park ( The Wave)
W.
This is such an awesome place to get kids confident in the river. Good for bodyboards, surfboards, Kayaks etc. check the flow before going.
D.
Great ride along the water from Wanaka.
Very pretty and nice easy ride for those not quite so confident on their MTN bikes. Watch for the e bikers though, often not in such good control.
P.
We came across having cycled down from the lake. A hidden gem and a good reason to bring a surf or body board.
Very communal feel with everyone exceptionally friendly and offering advice.
One chap had dropped his kids off with a couple of inflatable rings and they were going to float down river to their campsite.
Great little place.

Hidden gem! We were so amazed by this place and wondered how on earth such place exists and discovered by people! Locals are so lucky to have an environment like this. A must see place! 👍
S.
It's simply an area of the river that has a endless wave. Room for one maybe two though river is fast flowing. Not for kids
L.
Nice place for water sports or to chill out. Busy with surfers and kayakers. Lots of walkways around that area. Have a look!
P.
Amazing experience but must take an adult who can swim. Kids where life jacket and wetsuit. My kids are there most days. Boogie board recommended.
N.
Amazing Facility, so lucky to have this in Hawea. Defiantly do it if you are a surfer.
E.
Kids love it, adults love it. You need to be respectful but while having a great time. A wonderful free resource which we use almost daily.
S.
Nice early morning frost, water is high and flowing fast .
D.
Great little park and play spot. Low flow, but still plenty of fun to be had at the top wave.
C.
This looks a great deal of fun. I will come back in the summer however...
S.
Any WW park helps make better paddlers. Though a bit tricky to catch the lower wave on a SUP, great spot for ww SUP running, ferries, eddy turns....
r.
2 River 'weirs' 1st weir generates a gentle wave suitable for body boarding, 2nd weir produces a strong wave for surfing!
C.
Very entertaining. As an old surfer I found it really interesting.
P.
Amazing. Kids love it!
