The scenery will blow your mind. The mint coloured waves, rocks all over the beach and decent walk when tide not high. Beautiful! And dog friendly. Sand dunes for sliding down on boards. Ice cream and coffee available near the toilets and changing rooms.

Absolutely beautiful beach that we enjoyed every day during our stay in the Manghawai area! It’s wide and sandy, and great for walking, relaxing, sunning, surfing, or swimming. Also seems to be popular with local fishermen. There is a large parking area at the beach with benches, restrooms, changing rooms and showers. There are dunes behind the beach, and further down the beach there is a beautiful Cliffs Walkway with trails to walk on for amazing panoramic views. On the far north end of the beach, you will find the Natural Arch. We particularly enjoyed walking down the beach on multiple occasions to the access trail for the Manghawai Heads Cliffs walkway, which is directly accessible from the beach. Amazing scenery and a place that we will revisit again when we return to New Zealand!

One of the best headland beaches we've found... Beautiful vistas, great carparking, surfing for all levels, new toilets a shower, sunrises and wonderful for family walks and dogs to play on the beach too... Only suggestion to some dog owners, pick up your dog's poo!!

A very nice and beautiful beach. The cliffs meet the ocean to create amazing scenery. There is a walking track up on the cliffs that gives you amazing views of the beach and surrounding area. Only takes about 2 hours to walk the whole thing. The car park can get very full on a busy day, so arriving early is a good idea.

An amazing beach with crystal clear water, beautiful scenic, white sand. It is suitable for sunbathing, swimming, surfing and tracking. It is not very far from Auckland Center, takes about 2 hour driving. There is a clean toilet, car park on the site. For those who want to learn surfing can contact to book the training, they offer both private and group course. I really love this beach, would like to come back soon.

amazing place! The sun, sea and sand, my son just loves it.he even asked to come back the next day 😂 we had a great time.. there are life guards on patrol..toilets are clean and we don’t have problems on parking though it was a Saturday 😁 Definitely we will come back again soon..

Beautiful beach and can have good surf. Leave early to get here before the traffic as it can get pretty busy. The cliff top walk is worth the effort for the views and the walk back along the beach. Just check the tides.

Easily my favourite beach in New Zealand! The water was warm and clear, the sand is soft and nice, there are toilet and changing facilities and stunning views of the heads. I love this beach and really enjoyed myself. The only con is finding a parking space can be a chore during summer but with some perseverance you can find a spot if you time your visit right. Love this place!

spectacular views and good short day hike. if you’re lucky, you might catch the coffee and ice cream stall by the parking. lots of parking space and toilets. If you walk by on the left side facing the shore you can get to the sandy place where you can actually see a little sad hill where children do some sand boarding. There is also a surfing school that visit the place and if you’re near there, you can try an hour surf lessons from the local trainers. Catch the way, enjoy the sun!

Mangawhai Heads Beach is very busy during the day in the summertime, so the carparks are hard to find because the beach is amazing and it has great toilet and changing room facilities with a shower on the outside to get that pesky sand off lol The Beach is patrolled during busy times, so remember to swim between the flags for your safety. Overall, one of the best beaches in NZ.

Great walking track. Be advised depending on tide you'll need to go knee height into water to access the coast to get back to the beginning of the track. Most ascending is done at the beginning. Quite a lot of annoying rocks that slip & slip along the coast line. Walking or hiking shoes are recommended, especially for this part. Beautiful scenery along the way for great pictures, as well as less busier spots along the beach for swimming away from the crowds. Quite a decent walk, good for trail running along the tracked part prior to the coastal walk along the bottom. I wouldn't attempt it without good shoes, otherwise its a recipe for disaster and you can break your ankle. Recommend! Definitely do it again.

Big waves, really soft sand except the water is quite salty and beware of when the tsunami sirens go off. I got caught in a rip current but got out safely fortunately.

One of my favourite beaches in the whole of NZ. Quite wild so not really for young kids (it's a surf beach) but the waves are so much fun and the sand is fine and yellow. Changing rooms are clean and there a coffee and frozen yoghurt cart by the car park. There is a small pool of sorts formed in the sand for toddlers and babies to splash is once the tide recedes but it's very shallow and ends up being more of a puddle. Lots of space on the beach and there's a massive sand dune to play on.

Just beautiful. A great place for a beach walk. Head north along the beach from the river mouth and enjoy the views. Little coves with a pretty backdrop. Some rocky and pebble areas, in other places white, black or yellow sand. Some great rocks too. Also plenty of bird life. Good toilet facilities by carpark.

Went here for a beach walk Sunday 14/04/19. Loved the big white rock at the entry/parking area, great that there are public toilets available. Walked a few kms down the beach and loved the views. My only concern is the plastic and metal barriers/fencing placed for a previous cliff rock slide look like they will be out polluting the sea the next time a storm comes by.

Beautiful, nice, very good showers, changing rooms, toilets, parking, space for eating - when we went there there were people selling ice cream, coffee and beer - life safe guards. The beautiful white sand dunes are worth it a slide so you can use your body board for both water and sand 😊 also there is a track going from the carpark to the beach over the sand dunes.

Climbed up the Cliff Walkway from the beach so got awesome views. On this day in winter, the weather was wild so the surf was roaring. Nice rock formations to explore and photograph.

What a great stretch of gorgeous beach line and pristine clean beaches. Lifeguards on duty busy doing Training with the young ones and teaching then the necessary skills to help with the rescue efforts. Great swimming areas, people busy sunbathing and adjacent area a great place to launch your boats and enjoy time on the water. Great days weather and good to see so many people taking full advantage and swimming, sun bathing and out on different boards. Sat at one of the memorial benches and was able to chill out and enjoy the breathtaking views. Clean outdoor amenities and definitely an area to visit more often.

Beautiful coastline, perfect for sunrise views. Massive rocks and big hills make for picturesque scenery. The low tide also has a wide reflection. The city council has done a great job with access to the beach and plenty of carpark spaces. Definitely worth a bucket list on your Northland travels.

Beautiful long beach. There are lifeguards on site, a cliff walk with beautiful views. Sand dunes on one side of the beach where you can do sand surfing. A small cart selling coffee to warm you up and ice cream to cool you down. A must visit beach in Northland.

The car park doesn't seem to have enough parking places, especially on a public holiday or a weekend, but the parking is still manageable, if you're patient or don't mind walking a bit. The locals are friendly. Very nice, lovable little place. Will definitely go back in the future. :)

Gorgeous views from the top of the hill (access from the parking), a very beautiful sight, should take about 10-15 mins to climb. The beach is nice, but I wouldn't say that it's anything spectacular. Decent number of carparks available, but it can get very crowded during the summer.

This was my second trip. Love the place, long walk from beach to top of hill was little bit tiring as sun was too strong. Never go for walk without water . Sun set is lovely sky was full of different colours. And we were lucky that sky was clear and we sat under the stars for hours

Not too many people, lifeguards working, ice creams and coffee available in carts in the carpark, good toilet and changing facilities. Apart from nature throwing a shark 🦈 on the water, it was perfect. The eagle eyed lifeguards spotted it quickly and got everyone out of the water asap.. One had to paddle out into the water to collect a man doing laps on his board... Very brave.

Great for surfing and walking your dog. BTW the rubbish bins are to the right of the toilet block. A local lady told me when I asked where there was a bin to put the dog poo bag in - she said "Mangawhai does not have rubbish bins!"

Amazing Fabulous Beautiful This would be the loveliest place ever..Everyone is so friendly. Great markets on Saturday...both with Fantastic stands..Fresh veg fruit...seafood ..bread pork pud ..turkish...cheeses...flowers...books ..plants..cloths.Best Dumplings ever .. The butcher's shop is outstanding..Funky clothy ...Trish makes the best morning tea ever...there's Sushi shop at the heads .. Well the pub has markets too snd of course great music and a coldy.. Theres the golf club ...The Club bowls...pool...big screens always playing the major sport events . The durf club and beach . The Estuary. Swimmimg is the best . Cliff top walk .Water Fall walk . They have amazing restaurants..ice cream shop. And world famous cheesy sticks,, Mangawhai is THE BEST .
