Was amazing experience to be here..
If you like something challenging and creepy place, this is the best spot..
The prison not so big but creepy enough to make you goosebumps all the time during the tour.
You only need to pay around $20-$25/person and ready to do the tour.

We found the experience pretty cool.
My kids loved it. We will come back another time and do an Escape Room experience.

Came here today. It was quite interesting walking around and touring through the prison. We actually stopped listening to the guide audio piece because it was too longwinded and boring. I enjoyed the info that are stuck on the walls at each places though.

If you like history with a side of spookiness Napier prison is a place to visit.
Being the oldest prison in NZ they offer good old historical tour as well as the spooky ghost tour. You'll be given a headset for the tour, and since everyone is listening through their own headset you can choose the tour for yourself even if you are going there as a group. Perfect for those doesn't feel too comfortable with ghost stories or history lesson whichever it might be.
They even offer escape room experience, if you want the extra challenge.
The staff there are quite friendly and knowledgeable, if you have a chat with them they might have their own ghost stories to share.
Recommended.

A very fun environment and good people who work there. Loved looking at and learning about the history. The owner told me how it was privately owned and it looks really good for being so. The tours were very informative and helped me learn alot about it. Would definitely recommend for a good day out

Having to ring the bell at the front gate made you feel like a prison visitor.
Although we enjoyed the experience we thought that some of the cells were poorly lit, run down in places and directional signage wasn't great. Being deaf, and not really hearing the audiotapes very well I would have liked more written information about each location on the walls.
The price to get in was reasonable and the staff were very friendly.

This is a great place to go if you enjoy ghost stories. The tour it self was amazing giving me thrilling stories of the paranormal, and then when i asked some of the workers about their stories they didn't hesitate to give me some. Very spooky. Very good

Rather interesting place to visit was good to have the audio around the history of the prison. Big ups to the dude working there very good service and answered all my questions once I found out he lived there! Would definitely go back again and do the ghost side of the tour!

Having to ring the bell at the entrance makes you feel like a visitor to the prison.
We enjoyed the experience although we thought a lot of the exhibits were poorly lit and the directional arrows were lacking.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the experience was certainly worth the entrance fee.
