Cool place to visit if you're crusing past. Lots of modern art, I'll let you be the judge if you're into that. Free entry, friendly staff

Very good gallery. Good selection of work. Helpful staff. Set on beautiful grounds with lake right out side the door.

Saw many of what I would describe as masterpieces of NZ painting up-close and personal here. The comparatively small gallery makes it feel like I was getting a private showing of the works of Rita Angus, Toss Woollaston and Bill Hammond.

The Suter Art Gallery is on my list of top 5 places to visit in Nelson! The staff are very friendly and while we were looking at “Fire & Earth: Contemporary Ceramics from the Top of the South” we were informed about the works and their makers by very knowledgeable volunteers. An excellent cafe spills into the Chinese Garden and there is a short circuit walk with information about the types of trees growing in the garden and some lovely sculptures along the way. The gallery has a well-stocked gift shop and an area for browsing art magazine. It’s free to visit but donations are welcome, and I think, well deserved.

Really loved the exhibitions on display at the moment. Such talent on display. We had lunch in the cafe as well and it was just delicious. Highly recommend a visit to The Suter

Beautifully set out and great artworks on display

I spent more time in the cafe over coffee than in with the Art work. Perhaps it was just the current exhibitions. Great space but left disappointed.

Small but charming provincial gallery with four small exhibitions rooms, a cool atrium/foyer with gift shop, and steady rotation of modernist to contemporary art. There is a restaurant/cafe, but it was no open during my visit. The nearby parklands are ever so quaint, and the location is a few blocks form the centre of town. The art on my visit proved no great shakes, but it was well-presented, and there were some interesting curatorial efforts on view nonetheless.

Lovely venue for NZ Costume and Textile Association symposium at Suter Gallery. We'll done Paula Bellamy Haines and staff.

Great food, superb experience. Will definitely be going back next time we're in Nelson

Always a treat Art changes regularly. Free now but worth a donation as the Suter is special. Movie theatre, cafe and arty shop. There is also a fine set of rest rooms for parents and wheelchair access plus usual . Good cafe with magazines ,fine coffee and singing manager. Open for coffee and early and late lunches. The film festival is about to come to the theatre. Art gallery is in at least 3 large galleries. Local and national artists in a variety of mediums.

Wonderful art museum with interesting and well put together special exhibits- and it is free. It also happen to be located in the beautiful Queens Garden park. The cafe in the museum has great food and great views of the park.

I love to come here, even without visiting the beautiful art gallery, for great tasting coffee a d yum food. View on the gardens and pond is so relaxing. Very friendly staff giving you that bit of extra personal attention that makes your day 😊

Wonderful art gallery. The pieces by Doris Lusk tell a timeless story of the Nelson area.

This is a really interesting and nice gallery! The artist works are just spectacular, and, besides that, our experience was so pleasant because an amazing volunteer David and his stories! Highly recommend this place!

Love the theatre and selection of films. The gallery and cafe are also great.

Free to enter. Has 4 galeries you can wonder through. The first we found interesting but the other three didn’t have anything that really interested us. I did have a chuckle at the Emporers clothes though. Come for the cafe.

A perfectly amazing gallery. The exhibits were poignant and topical. From the desk staff to the volunteers, everyone knew and could tell me everything; I gained a greater understanding of the pieces and my position because of their help. Beautiful spot. Bright, inviting spaces and a cute cafe. Wheelchair accessible. Great garden out back.

Really lovely spot to see some nice works, really lovely the amount of pottery and glass works here, its not often you get a gallery that has a lot of 3D work and i really like that because it's much more engaging. Also the cafe is devine, beautiful area to sit and watch over the Queens Gardens. To be so close to the nature was really wonderful and the staff at the cafe were so welcoming and friendly. Really wonderful.

Very relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. Great variety of local and exhibition art. Make sure you have lunch at the Cafe. The food is exquisite.

I appreciate art is subjective, I did appreciate a few pieces. The gallery is a fantastic facility to see, being free to view you can not lose.

My young son and I love looking at the displays it's well set out and spacious a gallery to be proud of. We enjoy paintings from local artists that are for sale too so many talented people in our beautiful region.

We had another simple but delicious breakfast with the best coffee we’ve had in the Nelson region. Great surroundings and plenty of excellent staff who could not be more helpful and friendly. We visit Nelson regularly and always try to have one meal here. It’s been consistently good for many years. Long may it continue. And the prices are reasonable too.

One of Nelsons beautiful hidden gems. The gallery has been recently renovated with stunning modern layout. The gallery is well curated with thoughtful pieces and the theatre is wonderfully intimate for live performances. Make sure you visit the cafe which overlookes the duck pond at the Queen's garden. 10/10 love this place!

Beautiful venue...my son kahu has been working at the sutor over the school holidays and has learnt the value of 'working for a living'

We enjoyed the gallery. There were two interesting exhibitions on both artists work was thought-provoking and skillful. The gardens outside the gallery also nice especially the Chinese Garden. We'll be back.

A surprising and well-curated find tucked away beside the Queen's Gardens. Art from the region's vary capable art community and beyond. The building is Tardis-like with large, appealing galleries, a boutique theatre and a great cafe with a beautiful view of the park - a very civilised and culturally satisfying place to have lunch.

Beautiful view and food. The lady who served us was fantastic and friendly. Thank you for your hospitality. We followed the recommendations of many locals and it was well worth the visit. We will be back on our next visit to Nelson.

Great display of local art. Obviously not going to be lots with a smaller area like Nelson, compared other galleries around the world. But was able to take it all in around an hour or so.

Quality gallery - well laid out exhibition spaces. The most amazing gift shop - seriously I have to be dragged out of it. Good cafe overlooking gardens. The Suter is a regular stop for me when I visit Nelson.

Suited to fine taste? The Suter cafe serves exquisite food down to a fine art! This place is perfectly situated, with views overlooking The Queens Gardens and pond; enjoy indoor or outdoor seating. Bubbly Staff will make you feel at home. lt is also a child friendly cafe with a high chair and toys. Take the kids to feed the ducks after lunch. They'll love it!

Suter Gallery Cafe is my favorite place to eat and hang out in Nelson. Wonderful food Air conditioned beautiful cafe, lovely art Set bedside a creek. A bit pricey but worth the experience.

Went their for the small movie theatre to watch the Mountain Movies (made by kiwis), the theatre is great and it was really awesome to be able to support the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter at the same time.

Great place to visit. Art changes regularly and the cafe has a great view of the Queens Gardens. You can watch the ducks while you relax with coffee and Kai.

Suter Gallery and Cafe are five star , we are huge supporters of the visual arts but we attended a movie in the Suter theatre today for the first time and couldn’t believe how uncomfortable the seating was. It was really hot in there as well which should be an easy fix via temperature controls.

Changes exhibitions every now and then, during Saturdays it's free. While redoing the Suter they moved next to the library where it was nice and open for anyone to come through, I used to take art lessons there, and the paintings were quite unique and sometimes I wondered how it really was art.

This facility has been recently remodelled and moderised, and what an excellent job they have made of it with around 5 smaller galleries, all connected, showing off a portion of the Suter collection.And what a magnificent collection (that was on show) they have too. Something for everybody. From the huge portrait of Bishop Suter (around 1860's to the most modern at of recent times, a wimsical model of a half man, half boy, with his right arm bandaged, and a strange look on his face.....and some excellent art from all the well known NZ names from the last 100 years.A MUST Vist attraction.

This is really you time to visit while in Nelson, even just for the cafe, but the galleries were very enjoyable for the art..currently featuring women's collections..you can also buy pieces.. unique.

The Suter is a great place to see art which has local, national and international significance. It's part of the social fabric of Nelson. I highly recommend a visit.

Love the current Vincent Ward exhibition. Up to 'big city' standards. Always enjoy this beautifully renovated gallery space.
