Reviews of Koru Pa
A stunning pa site. In amazing condition, with great interpretation panels explaining the history and layout of the site.
This is one of the few pa in the entire country that has stone lined terraces and banks, and everything is largely untouched by erosion. Huge run storage pits can be found across the entire pa - be careful not to fall into any !!!
Easily accessible through very tidy tracks, you could easily spend a few hours here poking around. The track culminates in a gorgeous hidden river area.
Starts of with a walk through farmland to the Pa site entrance. Tracks through the bush and up to the upper pa landing. Lots of Rua food holes in the ground. Approx 80 all up.
Nice walk down through tracks to the lower landing then to the river.
Tracks overgrown so you need to remember your way.
Approx 45min return.
Worth the drive out there.
Amazing taranaki koru pa site! Very well preserved and renovated by Doc in associated with the local maori tribe. This is a short walk/ hike which reaults in many historical maori land alterations including referenced infomation boards provided by doc to inform vistors of the pa's structure when it was at full operational capacity. The pa site has a rich historical background surrounded by many amazing rural untouched sites, at higher elevations.
DOC haven't been here for a while, tracks are not really practical and it's really difficult to picture how looked this old Pa
Awesome history and huge significance!
