Reviews of Ngatea Water Gardens
M.
We had some time to kill before heading North, so decided to visit. We thought it was great. The kids bought duck food and loved having a trail of ducks follow them everywhere. The gardens were beautiful and the quirky sign posts strategically placed very amusing.
J.
It was a great water garden. My kid loved it. The museum was also good. I also enjoyed. Entry fee was $14 for adult.
L.
Very fun. Very immersive, and fun to interact with all the birds (they are NOT scared of humans - at all!). Please look through the "Canny Museum" too, it's got some real gems of the time.
The only nitpick would be their website, is not clear when they'll open. I went on an odd Friday even though the website said open Sunday to Thursday. And their gates were wide open! Even AT the garden gates, the signs said "closed Friday and Saturday" but they were not. Was it part of their funny signs?
M.
Been a few times now. Still get a kick out of wandering around the gardens. Nice time waster
M.
In awe of the amount of work involved to create and maintain this beautiful garden. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, I think we spend an hour or so there. So peaceful, beautiful, funny quirky signs and surprises. Loved the beautiful Peacock and Peahen with its little offspring. Definetly worth the visit
Thank you
A.
Overall a great place for everyone. Very quirky and downright funny. It would have been 5 stars if it was up kept a little better, then again it's the same with most places due to the pandemic. The animals are super friendly, the puns couldn't be funnier and we all had a really great time!
N.
From the understated entrance we were not expecting anything great. We were very pleasantly surprised finding a very well kept and landscaped area.
We need to return with our grandson as a great play area and fish, sheep and birds to feed.
K.
This place is a paradise and very magical. I'm so blown away with all the little touched of love and beauty. Really feel like heaven there .I don't want to spoil the magic and tell u too much . you need to go there and see for yourself. All the stars in the universe for this garden of heaven.. just speechless.
S.
Hidden gem in Ngatea - good to take the kids out there to see the peacocks
D.
A hidden gem on the way to the Coromandel. Roughly midpoint and a good way to break up the drive. Love gardens featuring lotus flowers multiple ponds and area to sit.
A famous can museum and a lots to see. Great for all ages. I highly recommend the stop, it was well worth it.
Some creative and funny signs to amuse you while you walk through the gardens and feed ducks and geese. Relatively bird poo free and some friendly resident sheep.
J.
It is a so beautiful. I never seen a garden like this . it is a so adorable. Ticket price is also reasonable. Staff was so good and friendly. Amazing waterfall, easy walk and variety of animals and fishes . We highly recommend this Place .
C.
Most enjoyable morning visit. A well laid out and open garden with birds and fish in ponds amongst the gardens. A refreshing sense of humor shown on signs and objects to chuckle at while wondering through. Bridges, warerwheels and a small castle are some of the things to admire. Alot of vision and planning has been put onto these gardens and should be viewed.
A museum of drink cans is a nice surprise with hundreds of different types from all around the world. Wow.
Keen to return for another look one day.
T.
Classic small town gem. Perfect for all ages, well worth a visit.
Brilliant humour throughout, don’t get wet...
S.
Absolutely awesome. Highly recommended
P.
Hidden gem. Stop by if you travel nearby. Ideal for whole family. Kids will enjoy to feed the animals. Very nicely decorated gardens with funny signs.
E.
A lovely place with lots of interesting and humorous decorations.
You can take a lot of cool pictures here and if you are lucky the white peacock hanging around in the area might put up a wonderful display.
#.
I reckon this place is a real nice place for a date :) really secret place, i wasnt expecting much but i ended up with alot more than i expected!
The gardens were nice, the fact they have peakcocks are really cool! And a few other historic things that are quite cool.
Would suggest getting some duck/animal food since its only 50cents - makes it more enjoyable :)
Makes me want a garden
T.
Great for the little ones. Very interactive with birds and a few animals. Enjoyed watching my 2year old.son face when he got to feed the birds, fish. sheep and goat. Love a quirky quotes and memos.

Amazing place! We took our kids and we all had a ball. The gardens are stunning and the signs throughout are hilarious! I’d highly recommend visiting.
V.
Really enjoyed this place. Had lots of giggles. That black swan was a little scary though.
A.
Fun garden! Even though the weather wasn't great...took about an hour to get around but on a nicer day could definitely spend longer!!
M.
Wonderful place- well kept and delightful. Lots of quirky surprises around the garden.. and lots of hungry animals

Had a wonderful time at this place. My wife found a new following in the ducks here. Very peaceful and soothing place. Knew it would be fun as soon as we parked and saw these funny parking signs.

J.
This place is great! There are cement and brick paths, which makes it very easy and comfortable to walk. There are interesting and funny signs throughout and an interesting can collection. The ducks are friendly, and everything is beautifully kept and cared for
H.
Very cool place.. well kept. . Would never have thought all that was in there.. it's the jewel of Ngatea
M.
Wonderful place to walk around and very well priced
N.
Interesting stop on way through Ngatea. Good for kids as lots of ducks to feed.
Confusing/funny carpark signage that should be ignored. Small but amazeballs global can collection museum. Quirky titbits through out garden. FACT, best seesaw in NZ.
G.
Not as big as we expected but very entertaining and a lot of work put in to it
B.
This place is awesome. Wildlife is excellent and really fun to interact with. The gardens are beautiful and VERY well looked after, highly recomend
M.
The place is really lovely and serene, really good value for money. You could spend a good 2 hours there and still not see all the really neat little quirky things they have located all over the place. You'll find a couple of examples in the photos I posted. How about a typical rural delivery letterbox high up on a post with an "Airmail" sign on it, how else would the mail be delivered? Maybe you'd like to hire a dinghy, oops, they're a little water-logged. The place is full of these random things and it starts outside the venue, in the off street parking area and you might just find a last one as you exit if you're observant. They have a function centre, we can't comment in that.
I gave it 4 stars because it's beautiful, but needs a little tidy up after the winter. Springtime generates phenomenal plant growth, so the condition is appropriate for the season. After the quiet winter, they could probably do with the income.
I am not affiliated with the water gardens. I have visited them 3-4 times over the last 18 years. Adults love the colours and the gardens, kids love it too. Lots of photos opportunities.
Y.
The gardens were lovely. But thought they could have kept them tidier if the garden was open for visitors. Had a great time though.
J.
Wonderful and welcoming. Excellent walk around the garden and hilarious sign that made me giggle. Thanks I really had a wonderful experience.
K.
A hidden gem, well worth a visit!!!
P.
Its a wonderland. Highly recommend this place. This is the first time I gave 5 🌟 rating ..
J.
A great place to break up your journey. Fun and quirky. Dummy miss the tinny hut!
A.
It's a hidden gem.. We enjoyed our day with family who were visiting New Zealand. My toddler enjoyed feeding the ducks, fish and goat. They also have a peacock and peahen.. Lovely place with such funny signs cracked us up! There is a playground for kids and space to enjoy a picnic. Beautiful and Scenic spot with loads of photos to capture.
s.
Beautiful garden. Lots of birds and fish. I loved the peacock. He was majestic and glorious and did a little dance for us. The sheep were very friendly. Loved the canny museum.
F.

B.

J.
Tame birds, fish and a goat to feed... Beautiful surroundings (we took a picnic lunch). Lots of funny, quirky signs and things to see. Was completely in my happy place, loved it, and went back a second time to buy more animal food :-) Want to go again! Haha
P.
Beautiful place and so peaceful!
J.
What a great little place. Beautiful gardens, good humor, and some excitable and hungry ducks. Pay the 50 cents for duck food. The entertainment from feeding the ducks was worth it. Also there's a friendly and playful goat.
W.
Great relaxing and fun stopover.
K.
If passing drop in, (glad we didn't drive all the way from Auckland just to view the gardens). $12 is top price for this attraction, you could easy zoom around in 20 minutes or slowly wander for 40 minutes. 50cents for a bag of food does add to the experience, the birds will eat out of your hands.
P.
Quirky humour peaceful surroundings ducks ,fish, various birds to feed ,a stroppy goat and a vain peacock what more could you ask!😃
T.

L.
Quirky as advertised! Very pretty birds and fish (but watch out for the swan) and some REALLY unexpected stuff there to look at.

Beautiful place with lots of various exotic animals, great place for kids. You can also feed the animals with special food that you buy for .50c . Don't feed the turtles through, i notice the warning sign too late.
