You can play with most of the things. Pretty good fun for kids. The staff we got today seems to be in a down mood, But the place is amazing. $20 for a family. The kids doesn't get free whatever the age, would be $2 if you buy separately.

Closest thing brings you back to the Victorian era. Amazing structures, untouched by time. Architecture and design, a first hand experience of the past. And, much much more to offer.

Best thing Oamaru did was restore these masterpiece historical buildings. Fantastic. Should ban parking in the precinct and make it more pedestrian oriented.

Being here is like being transported into an alternate time, people dress up here in all their fine Victorian dresses and steampunkery. It's so quirky and sweet and the pies at the bakery are yummy! PS the area is used as a movie set for films such as 'The Royal Treatment', 'Mr Pip', 'The Power of the Dog' and many others.

Fell in love with this historical area instantly. Very well maintained and beautifully presented. Clean public toilets in the area. A lot to see and buy. Really enjoyed shopping at vintage stores. Would go back.

One of NZ's great treasures. Beautiful buildings! We love starting off at the playground, having beers for adults & chips for kids at Scott's brewery, then walking through Victorian Precinct having a poke around in shops and ending up at Steam punk HQ.

Don't leave Oamaru without experiencing the Victorian Precinct.

Worth a visit, near Steampunk HQ. Many shops, cafes, items of interest, resonable prices, an easy walk and plenty of parking

This area has lovely architecture and some cool little shops full of art and other creations. Like stepping back in time, Harbour St in Oamaru is worth a look. They even have active artists actually working sculting the famous Oamaru stone. There is also a very fun "steampunk" themed playground, cafe and sculptures around the area, which is great for all the family. A great little area to explore.

Authentic street from the 1800s/1900s. Rode the train on Sunday, walked to the end of the pier & chatted to crafts/trades folk. Great fun, worth a visit. Motor home parking nearby.

Magic place both day and night. Lovely friendly people working in th area. Couldn't recommend a visit here more

Not sure why but everyone looks pretty in photos taken at this place. 2nd hand bookshop owner was so kind to carry out his old bicycle for us to take photos. This place is just simply amazing, there's a very relaxing vibe. We planned to stroll around for 15 mins and ended up staying there for abt an hour. Yes plenty of parking spaces around the area. Very near to the penguin's place.

Always a joy to behold. Only I couldn't see through stonewalls, as I was Assistant Guard on OSRR'S train today. We entertained over 170 happy people today. Except for the concerned young man without a ticket, that is. I explained my ticket clicker was used to pierce ears of such rebels. His Da gave a generous donation for my Non Adherence

Highly recommend steam punk hq. Some lovely people who just love their jobs in the old precinct.

Pretty cool even if it is quite touristic. Take time to wander and enjoy some delicious food and coffee to warm you up (was pretty windy when we were there)

Nearly missed this area as we drove through the main highway. Incredible historic township built with limestone from the area. The stone work is unbelievable. Home of NZ Steam punk.

What a hidden treasure. I was in architectural and boutique shopping heaven. Warm, friendly and very helpful shop owners but they weren't 'pushy' 😊 Was on limited time so another visit to explore (take in the setting) is planned.

Worth a visit while you are in Oamaru. They have a Victorian weekend early November each year. Lots of dress up and early vehicles. Plus a penny farthing race!

This city is filled with victorian (steampunk) ambience. Streets, shops, souvenirs... i thought it would be a small town near the sea but its definitely worth a visit.

Great family hands on fun. Entry fee is a donation. Loved the Penny Farthing carousel ride. Best spotless clean public toilets.

Oamaru has done an amazing job of renewing this area of town. Everyone except for one ugly homeware store has done a great job of maintaining the theme. There's a used book store focused on adventure books especially about Antarctica but also any kind of adventure from history to fiction. There's a great whiskey bar, a train ride, and all kinds of shops. It's just a nice shopping district which happens to maintain a Victorian period theme. A couple of shops delve into the kitchy fun of steampunk, and the Steampunk HQ museum is worth every penny.

A Beautiful place and a Great part of New Zealand's History. It feels like you are traveling 100 years back in time. Would love to see Old Cars and Carriages from the Turn of the Previous Century instead of Modern Day Cars in the street as well.

Must see for all K1W1 and international visitors. NZ's coolest town. Lots the do and see.

Not many shops open. Maybe need to wait till mid November for the festival. Can have some candid photos with the street decor and buildings.

Always a fun place to visit

Fantastic specialty shops with lots of character. Had a lot of fun at Whitestone city which is a hands on Victorian museum with fabulous staff. It's well worth a visit. Another highlight was harbour Street bakery. Good bread and amazing pies.

Amazing limestone buildings so beautiful

A Sunday in winter post covid-19 would be a challenge for any tourist business but they are trying. It was a wet day so we got a good look at everything. The Victorian Precinct has always been a favourite place of mine, even back in the days when it was grain stores. The buildings are beautiful.

Very wealthy place to go. Old building, Victorian era, art…

We did an historic walking tour. The guide shared her knowledge of the precinct as a lifelong citizen of the area. Restoration of the area has been well done. Criterion Hotel great to visit for food, hospitality and architecture.

Well worth a visit and a look around.

Love this place! Always make a point of stopping at Oamaru's heritage precinct on any road trip down SH1 for great coffee and/or lunch and a browse and "probable" (tempting) purchase of beautiful gifts from the large number of little galleries and stores housed here. This last visit I purchased 2 lovely ceramics by a local artist, and food items from a grocer co-operative including the wonderful Bay Road peanut butter made in Dunedin.

Lovely historical buildings scattered around town that gives off that old vibe feeling. It's nice to experience it's unique beauty aside from pure New Zealand nature.

Lovely area with the olde shops etc a lot of time and effort have been put into the Precinct. We were slightly disappointed, thought it would be a bit more vibrant. Could be due to covid. There's definitely a few of good shop to check out House keeping being one of them.

Brilliant concept absolutely loved the general store.memories of sweets from our childhood rekindled and several old favourites came home with us .all the shops beautifully set out .Easy access and parking .

Great place to wander around. The old buildings are amazing and there are lots of quirky shops to look through.

Absolutely lovely with it's old stone buildings,quirky shops that sell everything from jewellery, to stone sculpture, books, clothing art work and even whiskey. The little distillery sells good whiskey and a particularly fine single malt. A lot of the shops reflect the "steampunk" theme of Oamaru, and the museum of steampunk is just a short walk. If you haven't been there yet, you need to plan a visit.

Absolutely fantastic surprise. I had no idea this was there and wish now that we had had more time to check it out. So only did a quick visit but what we saw insisted on coming back and we will next time we are near. Lots of cool places to see and try. Thoroughly recommend allocating a few hours at least for a visit.

Very enjoyable wandering around the beautiful buildings. Some really great talented people running interesting incredible businesses. Ian Anderson the stone Carver is an interesting person with amazing talent. Be sure to visit this area when you're in Oamaru.

I recommend wandering down this street. Great photo opportunities (penny farthing and old signs) Get a pie, lunch, cake or a coffee. Explore the arts and crafts for sale on the street. Try a whisky... Play a number of very out of tune pianos.

When in and saw old friend Miss Purple she has a shop there, jet on the king chair

Different from anything I've seen so far in NZ.

We were toodling around on the way south so both days visiting the precinct we were late. But the girl in coffee shop was so kind taking care of us while she was trying to clean up to get home. Its a great place to visit. Good feel of old days when ships came in and out of Oamaru.

Amazing collection of heritage buildings and stores. I can understand how the theme of steampunk has become such a major part of this town. Wonderful filling to see history still thriving.

Excellent historic buildings but when my husband an I entered this store, we were there for 5 minutes and no-one came to see if we wanted to purchase any thingor if we needed help.

I'm a big fan of this little district. The beautiful old buildings really create an atmosphere and are filled with quirky and interesting shops. Short walk to the centre of town or the penguin-filled harbour. If you're in Oamaru, definitely pop down

Beautiful architecture. We went there around 9, has a few photo when the street is still empty. Most of the shops opens at 10am, and some of the shopkeeper even dress in Victorian.

Nice place to have a walk in & if you're feeling rich, you can even do some shopping on the side. Adventure Books has books on real adventures of people - right from naval expeditions to mountain climbing. They also have a rare book collection with original versions of Rudyard Kipling's books, Darwin's -Origin of Species, etc.

Some nice architecture, interesting old times bits and pieces. Unfortunately not really my cup of tea, but if you like whiskey tasting you're in luck which is something I do like....

If NZ history is your thing then this is a slice of 100 odd years ago all within easy walking of surrounding parking.

It was lovely to see the history of the town. The gift shop was the highlight for me. I will be back every time I visit Oamaru. Next stop is Scott's Brewery.

Great way to spend half a day

A fantastic place to visit at Sunrise, the scenic views are breathtaking and every corner has a new scene.

Best preserved collection of Stone Victorian buildings in Australasia. A pity the locals in the nearby streets can't see the stone for the plastic paint, garish unsympathetic signage and ugly modern aluminium joinery. It's a special town mostly appreciated by those who don't live there.

This is a blast from the past. It's as if you've been transported back in time. My children kept saying it was like Peaky Blinders. The Whitestone buildings are impressive. There's a quaint farmers market on Sunday morning. The Steampunk HQ is fantastic, especially the Portal. Oamaru has a lot going for it!

Bizarre but beautiful suddenly sent back to my old village in Somerset UK but still in nz.....but really so pretty and well worth a meander if you're a magpie and enjoy eclectic bric a brac.

this is a unique place and well worth visit. today was my first visit during the week and a lot of places were closed, understandable but disappointing

Must see place for any traveller going between Christchurch and Dunedin and well worthy of a stop over. The Steampunk Precinct is a must and the old nostalgia of the town with its Oamaru stone shop fronts is amazing

Loved the old part of the town. Beautiful and well preserved. Neat coast and walks.

So many of the shops have closed or changed. Didn't help that there was a film company setting up ready for the evening's filming.

Nice little town to stop by for a night while on the way back to Christchurch. Listen to the radio channel 88.3 while you are there. It enhances the experience.

Just a great bunch of retailers dedicated to delivering traditional levels of almost over the top service. I left with the impression that making sure I got what I wanted was more important than actually selling me the product.

The most wonderful area in Oamaru, with gorgeous little boutique shops. The highlight would have to be the Steampunk shop, selling exquisite Steampunk clothing, hats and accessories.

The old Oamaru downtown is the best place to wonder around and have a meal. Nice ambiance and character along the streets and the buildings.

Interesting selection of craft shops and historical buildings a museum etc. Well worth a visit wife bought a nice piece of pottery there.

You could spend a few hours walking through this place just looking at the architecture let alone the shops. Some of the places are a tight fit for prams though.
