There is so much to do, see, listen to or read about - at this place there’s something to enjoy for literally anyone!

If you love Victorian era, as much as I do, you're gonna love this museum. The ladies behind the counter are soo kind and helpful. You can even pay lil extra and walk around in the costume! Definitely worth the money!
A.
Our family of 4 enjoyed visiting Whitestone City. My daughter's aged 10 and 12 had lots of fun with the ride on Penny farthing carousel and traditional games like croquet and stilts. The movie about Oamaru's history was interesting and history displays well put together.
P.
It's a small place that used to be a grain and seed storage room but you will fun have here if you enjoy seeing Victorian objects. It's an interactive museum so you can touch absolutely everything. They have a barber shop, a grocery shop, newspaper office, doctor's place, a carousel and the old train tracks so that you can imagine how the train got inside the place to refill it's wagons with seeds. For an extra, you can dress up in Victorian costumes and take some fun memory pics.
N.
This place is a real gem! The volunteers who run it now (post-COVID) are friendly and knowledgeable about the city. There are heaps of Victorian era games. It's a great mix of interesting information and fun experiences. Definitely check it out.
J.
This was a fun place. We easily spent a couple of hours here. Truly hands on New Zealand colonial period experience for all ages. Great for families with children or for over 60s like us.
J.
Friendly helpful staff, interesting, interactive and educational, my mother and I enjoyed our experience
s.
Small interior playland for kids, good for a cold or rainy day, very small easy to go through for kids 5 years old or older, pedal mary go around, koha based facility.
N.
Awesome well worth seeing lots of fun activities to do and well worth learning about oamarus history the ladies were very helpful
J.
Am awesome experience and super recommended for kids and adults
R.
This is a fun place, not a conventional museum because you're encouraged to touch everything. We enjoyed the personal introduction from a welcoming victorian costumed lady. We found the history of Whitestone film very informative. And riding the penny farthings is quite an experience. I thought the entry price for adults at $20 each was a bit high but we did enjoy our visit.
P.
What an amazing place and museum. How often will you hear in your normal museum "please touch everything and explore"? Probably barely but here we heard it many times and didn't stop. What a fun place. From exploring the barber shop to the grocery store to the pharmacy to mix some potions. Dressing up is included and encouraged and was so much fun. We played crocket after for the first time in our beautiful dresses, took some amazing photos. Went on the penny farthing ride afterwards (still amazed how people manage to ride these), and made our way to the bar for some games before sitting down with 'our teacher Miss Yvonne'. Worth every $!
K.
Fantastic attraction! Definitely worth a visit if you're in Oamaru. Went on a rainy day with 2 & 4 year old. Wonderful friendly staff dressed in period costume. Lots of hands on things to explore. Kept the kids busy for ages.
S.
I had an absolute blast at this hands on, interactive, and informative attraction. Admission is by donation upon exit, so you can decide what you think it's worth paying. Definitely a must see for all ages
S.

Had so much fun with my friends here dressed up in full costume <3 Thanks to Iain for being wonderfully friendly and funny. The experience is definitely worth the money. The guides are super down-to-earth and have a lot of interesting facts about the area. Recommend The Grand Tour, play some croquet, and try the penny-farthing carousel at the end. One of the highlights of our South Island adventure. Love Oamaru :D
L.
A nice vintage museum, wealth of information to visitors of this region!

A.

A experience worth every cent. The hosts were lovely and had a lot of information for us. My favorite part was trying on the victorian clothing and to top it all off we could use our own cameras to take as many amazing photos.
L.
Whitestone City is a lot of fun. Rather than just walking through a museum looking at old stuff you get to be part of it, like being a kid in an old classroom, riding on the Penny Farthing, playing the old style arcade game in the brothel. Very interactive and the staff are fun, helpful and really seem like they enjoy being there. Great for the whole family not just the kids. It was the highlight of our day and one of the best things we did in Oamaru. You shouldn't miss it.
m.
No doubt too pricey, but well worth the visit. I would love to go here more often to show my visitors but at $25 per person it ads up too quickly. Still a memorable experience with great atmosphere and presentation. Maybe I'm just stingy.
N.
Fabulous, real highlight in the Oamaru Heritage celebrations. If you haven't visited this beautiful city with the heritage special area please go explore. And next year plan to go to the special heritage weekend. We stayed at the Brydon Hotel and that too was delightful
J.
A friend and me had a great victorian experience at Whitestone city. We were dressed up like the people back in the days, learned about the past and played nice old games. The staff were very friendly, easy going and funny, we even could go for a lunch break and come back. We totally recommend Whitestone city, a lot of value.
Thank you Whitestone :)
A.
Cool place to visit, cost is a donation at the end based on how much you thought it was worth. Really cool!
P.
We went through this place with the family and enjoyed every minute from the historical movies , the pennyfarthing ride , and the old dchpplroom where we had to draw on a slate and wear the since cap. All very hands on and interactive. Very well worthwhile llacevto spend two or three hours and have some fun. Educational too.
S.
Fun way to spend some time. Enjoyed the interactive and relaxed time with our family of 4. Our two daughters enjoyed the dress ups. Would highly recommend!
C.
The cost of entry is a bit steep but it is a fun little museum with lots of activities including dressing up and old bar games. Lots to learn and amazingly nice, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
I.
A little overpriced items. The coffee is good

Very lovely Victorian/Edwardian Town. They have great playground for children, antique shops and homemade ice-cream. Spent a lovely summer day there and it was worth the stop!

A good place to see what Oamaru used to be like. Ride the Penny Farthing, play games no longer played. A good place to visit. $20 NZD well spent. Yvonne & Mark, the guides were great.

(Translated) It's very interesting, it's very good to take pictures, I can see that I'm very attentive, and the commentary is all in Chinese. I don't want to have a taste when I change their clothes!

蠻有趣的,很好拍照,看得出很用心經營,而且解說都有中文,換上當時他們的衣服參觀別有一番風味!

(Translated) Inadvertently found a guided tour of the prosperous area at the time. There is a Chinese commentary describing the prosperous history of the Oamaru Victorian era. Awesome intellectual community activation promotion

(Translated) The story of a Victorian British who immigrated to New Zealand. I am so proud that the shopkeeper will explain the story eagerly. There is a British skirt better than you. It is worth playing!

一個維多利亞時期英國人移民到鈕西蘭的故事, 好得意, 店主會好熱切講解故事,仲有英國裙比你著, 值得來玩!

(Translated) At first I think the fare is a bit expensive, but it's worth it
The receiving aunt will be very enthusiastic to take the guide throughout the whole journey, from where the local residents come from, to the food, clothing, housing, education and entertainment at the time, etc. will be introduced.
Finally, there is a game to go to, adults and children can play there crazy. I originally wanted to say that the small exhibition hall that can only be visited for 30 minutes has been there for an hour and a half, and I left in a hurry until I was about to catch my next trip. Recommend to bring children to play!
(Original)
M.
