Best bangers and mash I've had in a long time. Awesome little pub on state highway 1. Friendly staff with a good atmosphere.

The Deer Story Museum Bar and Cafe souvenir shop has a large range of deer related product including deer skin handbags, clothing, hats, etc. Deer antler carvings and nick nacs, painting, books, walking sticks, tee-shirts, ornaments, jewelery, etc. (mostly deer related). The cafe is excellent with a huge selection meats and venison. Highly recommended

Visited for the first time today. There were 3 of us - all senior ladies. I can say we all loved the food. Beautifully presented and value for money. The venison burger was delicious as were the cottage pie and mini spring rolls and crumbed prawns enjoyed by my friends. Highly recommended by us all. Will definitely go again.

Don't just drive past! Call in. This is a little gem. Awesome Venison burger! Cold beer, cool atmosphere with lots of bits and pieces of interest up on the wall. Make sure you stop in.

So valuable and variety exhibitions!! Must to have a look museum part $12.5. This is absolutely worth. Sadly they don’t have a farm tour anymore coz of safety but still I learnt pretty much about deer history in NZ. Had Deluxe burger$15. You can choose from beef or venison and venison doesn’t have”wild” smell so you can taste pure venison meat :)

Have often wondered about this place when driving past, so took the family for dinner tonight. Great food, generous portions, good atmosphere and great service. The Venison burger is awesome. We'll be back!

Stop here a lot. Great burgers and bangers and mash. Good atmosphere with lots of cool memorabilia. Nice cold beer! They've got it right and worth a visit for a good down to earth and chilled out break away from the hustle and bustle and fancy pants 1/4 strength latte drinkers

Nice dinner. Venison burger done well with some lovely chips on the side. Liked the look of the burger that started before getting a pic. Not too noisy but seems like a local bar with not many other visitors.

Really enjoyed coming here. The burgers were delicious and we had a look through the museum which was pretty interesting. Had fun petting the two deer that were out the back. Would be 5 stars but it felt a bit unprofessional in the service and also in the museum was random broken furniture sitting in there and the store that I had to move so I could look at merchandise. Would definitely visit again!

Spent a lovely relaxed couple of hours here. Wonderfully tasty burgers and chips followed by a nice cold beer :) Also took the tour through the museum. Didn't think it would interest me but I was wrong. Really enjoyed it. Make sure you drop in while travelling state highway 1.

What a hidden gem... stopped in with the family as we did not find any options in Otaki for food... all the food was great and large portions. Lots to see.

Quirky Bar near Ohau winery. No tap beers. Waitress very nice and friendly. Venison hamburger patty not fully cooked through, and fried chips over salted however. Has museum attached, but did not visit. Toilets pretty grotty.
