We had been there Saturday, but are not had 1/2 hour to view, so we went back Sunday. Santa's Cave was open. Wow!! What a wonderful place.

Absolutely brilliant, great for kids. The play area top notch. Even having walked around Te Manawa on several occasions there is always more to see. If you are interested in rugby visit the rugby museum while you are there. Only complaint front of house staff could be a little more interactive, ie lost a few coffee sales etc because they appeared not interested. Otherwise excellent place to visit.

Popped in to the art gallery to check out the wildlife photography exhibition an took a peek at all the displays. Thoroughly enjoyed the suffragets exhibition and the one upstairs on Operation Grapple. Great atmosphere, plenty of room to view the exhibits. Friendly staff. Cracker spot to visit on a wet day.

Loved the Art. gallery exhibition of numerous very talented young people from Palmerston North High Schools. Not sure how long the display is up there for. Definitely worth the visit

Great and enjoyed the exhibits of wildlife photographer, the shop front background and to note the wildlife. Great place. One of my go to places when visiting Palmerston North.

Good place to wander round and pass some time. A few of the exhibits were closed or moved elsewhere and the water feature thing only seems to run at once a day which was annoying as we went in afternoon and it runs in the morning.

A lovely museum in the city of Palmerston north. Visitors to Palmy stop over to spend several hours at Te Manawa. There are several other museums in the premises like the Rugby Museum. During weekends there are activities and arts and crafts for the children. There is a play area for children to find dinosaur eggs etc.

Took my 2yo for Santa's grotto and looked around all the rest. It was great for adults and the littles definitely will be going back!

We had a wonderful time with kids meeting Santa and having some photos taken there. Great for buying gifts, too.

Real good displays of Palmerston North creation and history. The interactive displays keep all ages entertained.

Incredible museum and teaching facility. We had a fantastic time there with my grandchildren and they loved all of the interactive activities and resources. What a great way for children to learn about history, geography and biology! 😊

Great Museum for kids and adults, includes a large play area for kids. Awesome displays, awesome learning activities for all ages groups.

Really awesome place. First visit for us, was on a school trip. But it's all free & loads of interactive stuff for the kids to do, and the grown ups who love to join in with their kids! I was told that they also put on all sorts of different themed activities & events for kids & families during the school holidays, also usually free.

Te Manawa has done a great job of showcasing Santa's Cave. 10/10 would go again. They also have some other cool displays.

A fabulous place to enjoy on your own, with friends and family! A must see for visitors to Palmerston North

First trip to Te Manawa. Greeted by friendly and helpful staff member who gave us the highlights of what there was. Good piece of history on the Maori in 1800's around Palmerston North. The many contraptions in the exhibit upstairs was the highlight, also it is a hands on experience.

A great place to explore in Palmerston North when the weather isn't the nicest. Great for kids, very interactive. There was a great Button Exhibit to honor the many children who died in the Holocaust. Did really want to take a peek at the historical buildings on site (the school and cottage) however after asking staff they said they were short staffed as it was Easter and should would have to wait for someone else to watch the front desk and then they would show us through. That was fine and we waited. A second staff member joined the desk but the lady never came over to show us through. Got tired of waiting. Bit disappointed.

Te Manawa is an awesome Museum. Master 4 loved loved it there heaps of Interactive things for children and adults alike. Highly recommend to go if you're ever in Palmy.

Really enjoyed my visit and as luck would have it there was a Lego exhibition and interactive build zone too. Great for the kids young and old

Maori and Christian themes with some cool furniture (there's a reason why I'm writing this) and modern sculptures. They should come up with a better slogan than "it's free, visit, what you have to lose". I think some of the sculptures were very interesting.

Went for the Santa grotto was a quick and short experience. Would go again.

Gutted most things were unavailable for kids. Wasn't mentioned on website.

Great museum, lots of fun.

Great educational fun indoor activities for all the family. The kids had a great time interacting with all the informative displays. It's free and located on Main St just off the square in Palmerston North. The ideal place for the kids to burn off some energy on a wet day and learn at the same time. Lots of stuff for the adults too: art, history and information about the local environment. Highly recommended.

For a free facility it is absolutely amazing. We spent nearly the whole day here with our kids aged 2 and 3.5 and they had a ball. So may things to play with and a great place to learn. Would definitely go again.

Went and saw Calendar girls at their theatre what an amazing cast and great show they put on . Highly recommended .

3 exhibitions Sufragette movement,Holocaust and Wildlife Photography. Stunning exhibitions and I recommend all 3.The Holocaust is dedicated without being over dramatized and all exhibits were suitable for children.I will return to all of these as I ran out of time.

Ever changing attractions plus the standard exhibits prove massive draw card for little people. The kids building block section is a favourite plus the plumbing taps - and who ca resist making a meal in the kitchen? The caravan is fun - we always stop for a cup a tea before having a wee shop in the recently renovated store. Over the years the Lego exhibit, plus dinosaurs have been a hit. We attended a birthday party there which was excellent - even had a dinosaur dig. On the adult side - Ralph Hotere Exhibit was amazing to see.

Nice free activity to do in town. I especially enjoyed the science and nature section. Really great if you have kids as there are a lot of interactive displays. Briefly went through the art section, but I am not an arr connaisseur so I can't say much on it.

Awesome children's area. Friendly staff. This is a brilliant spot for children with plenty of free activities and events. However I did catch one of the workers vaping behind the desk, which is just feet within the children's area, and this was during mondays active tots. Very very inappropriate.

A great day out with the kids. A great mixture of history, science and art. There is enough hands on experience to keep the kids entertained as well as something for the adults. The kids particularly enjoyed the 'secret passage'.

Really interesting and informative exhibition about the multi-spectral imaging of the Mona Lisa. Definitely worth the $5

Had a lovely time looking around all the exhibits. Only downside is the photos of the dinosaurs on this page. We went specificially to see the dinosaurs but were told they have not been there for two years. I wish you would update your page please trip advisor so other people are not disappointed.

Love this place, and so do the kids. They're kept occupied for hours even in just the free sections. They really enjoy the kids' area with the foam bricks and secret passage. Great place kill a couple of hours on a rainy day.

There are many interactive stations placed all over the museum that can get your brains working and very entertaining for the children. Lots of learning and history lessons all round and even better is that it is free!!!

One of my favourite places in Palmy to take my 2 year old and have a look around myself. The discovery place with the construction site provides hours of fun and there are lots for little people to explore. There have been a number of exhibitions at Te Manawa that family members of all ages have enjoyed, and they are always good value.

Was at Te Manawa as part of a live display with the spinners and weavers group... Fab place, fantastic people great experience... So much to see and do...they have fantastic science experiences for the kids... So much more than a stuff old museum of old... Come check it out

Curious contraptions is an awesome exhibit to go to.

My older children loved the trash display in the water room today. They spent a good hour or so sorting out rubbish, founding it and weighing it. They learnt about recycling and rubbish and also how to dispose or waste accordingly. Rather than dropping it on the footpath where it will end up in our waterways. Fantastic !

Not just the awesome displays they have on but also the events they hold. We now always keep an eye on the website. The kids especially loved the Nerf events they put on.

We went to Te Manawa especially to see Santa's cave. Its just a gold coin donation for entry and it is so worth going. They've been doing up old xmas exhibits and it looks amazing. Plus Santa is tucked away amongst it all. Te Manawa is great for little kids. There's a kids area where they can play and learn. Recommend a visit

Was a good visit overall and is free too, kids may get a little bored with the current exhibits however but in saying that there is a playground inside

Te manawa is a great place to see if your traveling however it gets very silent as not many people go nowadays and is need of new exbits. If you are a parent with a kid you will like your time here as it has a 5 star area for kids to have fun for any age kids.

Attended a wonderful workshop of Sie Cooke's. Other than how amazing the course was.... Te Manawa can be very proud of the sense of connection their staff achieve at this crazy odd time.

Had my daughters birthday there, fantastic service, they provided us a great host, suitable activities, lighting, music, wonderfully decorated table, and coffee for the adults. Kids loved it.

The wildlife photographer of the year display is excellent, and the counter staff were friendly and helpful

Really enjoyed the Lego exhibit. Visiting late in the day was great as had a lot of space to ourselves and the "big kids" could join in building a house with the life size blocks!

One of the reasons to live in Palmerston North, lord knows there are few enough. Te Manawa is an oasis of calm in the city until I take my child there. The museum has beautiful exhibits on the local river, the Rangitane iwi and has a rugby museum. Rugby is a game played by men with funny shaped balls. Quite popular in new Zealand apparently. The children's play area and active spaces are a treat for crazy busy adults looking for somewhere safe and educational to take their children. Children love the place, but ride it hard. There's conspicuously not enough money to keep up with the maintenance and you just wish these things were properly funded. I blame neoliberalism, a creed New Zealand people keep voting into not realising there's a connection between greed is good economics and the broken pipework exhibit. Go there. And drop a few dollars in the box.

Excellent museum and free

Very good place to visit even if your local it could provide a change of scenery from regular palmy and can be quite refreshing and for people visiting it is well worth the visit tho save your money as the rugby part upstairs is nothing you can't sea at your local club or school

Visited the santa cave, fabulous time. Brings back some great memories of good times past. Excellent value for money.

Wow. This place is just amazing for kids , parents and Grand parents. Lots of activities and time fillers. And it's free.

We came up from Wellington to see the dinosaur exhibit. It was an impressive display however paying $30 to watch a few animatronic dinosaurs was a bit steep. If the exhibit had been larger or more information actually about dinosaurs then would have been worth it. Great for young children, but not enough hands on stuff for slightly older ones. Luckily the rest of the museum had plenty of other things to do whilst we were there, the construction site will keep any small boy entertained for hours. The reason I gave Te Manawa only 3 stars is because I thought it was cheeky charging $30 for a family to see the dinosaurs, it was a bit misleading. Overall a good day out.

One of our favourite places to visit, especially when it rains. The Te Awa exhibit never gets old, and the kids area is the three year old's favourite.

For a museum that wants to attract a lot of people at once, the parking is terrible! Inside there is a great kid's play area but the seating for parents is pretty bad! It could do with a cafe right there.

I really enjoyed it. Lots of information about the local area and special note to the wildlife area. Activities for kids and adults alike so you can really involve yourself.

We traveled up for the day for the Dinosaur Exhibition. Excellent staff, great access and a nice wee gift shop. Excellent play area both inside and out for the children.

Our first trip out to this museum. The kids enjoyed the dinosaur exhibition however some of the other interactive displays were closed to the public. Our kids lost interest halfway through.

It's great for kids and it's great for people interested in art. Unfortunately, if you aren't under the age of 9 or into art then going there once is enough and the second time it won't really be interesting.

This place just keeps getting better and better, we love coning to visit Te Manawa. The cafe is a little expensive but hey free to get in so I don't really have anything to complain about.

The displays are getting a bit old and tired. The animals are gone from the outdoor exhibit. Change does happen. Just very rarely.

Awesome place in so many ways and the staff are always welcoming, a visit here is well worth it, with lots of fun and informative activities for everyone.

The staff are lovely and there's always something on for the kids!

A lot to see and donation-based. The only thing I was a bit unhappy with was that in the history section, a lot of Maori vocabulary and geneaology was used. For a NZ-bred Kiwi and Wellingtonanian they are probably very basic, but for an outlander like me it made reading quite cumbersome.

Great Lego displays with lots of areas to try your hand at creating your own models. Also, the rest of Te Manawa is well worth a visit.

A good place to take the kids for a wee outing without having to spend money. Hey especially liked going in to the caravan and looking at the "fishes" as it was spelt on the sign

Great kids section, good local history, and of course, the Rugby Museum. Pity some sections are wasted space, blamed primarily on low staff levels.
