Reviews of Kitekite Falls
T.
A lovely drive to the falls. The walk itself is manageable if you are not really fit and you keep right when you go to the falls. The path to the left has got many steps and for the not so fit it is killing. But it's worth the effort, the falls are beautiful.
M.
We arrived at 11am and it was so busy on easter Friday. So worth the trip though. Higly recommend the walk. We were impressed by how well the track was maintained , especially the boardwalks on the way to the falls. The falls itself was a sight to see too, spectacular. I'd recommend to take lunch and a nice drink as you'll want to savour every moment. Easy enough to do with kids too.
M.
Nice family friendly walk. Left of the track has a stream crossing that can be a little to manage with young kids. Right side is much safer.. families with very young babies it is highly recommended to carry them on body as a wrap. much less risky that way. Water is not deep so safe for kids.
H.
An authentic and well maintained place. Pretty busy in a sunny day post lockdown. A part of the walk was closed.
The waterfall is splendid and the water temperature close to a good 15°c.
Well worth a visit.
Half day in Kitekite falls discovering all the area with a chill stop for a snack and plenty of water along the river is the best plan!
L.
Walk ways are well maintained, stairs were steady. Perfect to get out for a walk in nature and swim in the water fall. Highly recommend!
P.
It's a bit of a walk to get to the fall, but the view is amazing. It is a bit crowded but the people come and go in waves. If you continue walking you get to the top of the fall, there the water is deeper and there is less people.
Overall it was a fun trip.
P.
They are amazing water falls and the small pond at the bottom is great for swimming in (although it's a bit cold). It's a gentle 20 minute walk to get to the falls. Perfect for most ages.
C.
2 minutes from Piha beach, 15 minute walk in Bush by a babbling stream, 10 minute incline to you reach the base of the falls and swimming hole. Awesome walk and views. Highly recommend.
M.
A must to do. Stunning fall with amazing views. The falls drop a total of 40 metres. Easy access in 25 min to fall base and 10 min from base to top. Bring water, boots, hat, and swimwear. There were clean toilets, a nice picnic area and plenty of parking space. Highly recommended.
K.
Stunning waterfall, beautiful pathway with approx half n hour lovely walk. Well maintained and worth visiting
L.
Easy and nice walk. For all ages. Nice waterfall, can swim too. Easy carpark. Toilet.
D.
One of the most visited place I have ever been and every time I went it has always been an incredible day. Highly recommended. The water can be quite cold but the walk is pleasant although a dip in the water is worth having.
I.
Awesome place to go for a family walk on the weekend. The scenery was beautiful and the waterfall was icing on the cake.
It's quite a long drive to get there and a lot of winding roads but other than that I highly recommend this place👍
J.
Well established track on gravel and boardwalk. Can get busy in the weekend. The walk to the top of the falls can definitely break a sweat but its all worth it once you get to the top.
C.
Beautiful walk! The walk to the Top of the fall is not really worth the stairs as its not really a view of anything or anywhere to swim. Just walking to the waterfall is good.
A.
Do this walk every couple years and it's always so beautiful
E.
Such a great hike. The first part of it in nice and flat and then has quite a steep incline. Our 6 and 9 year olds were fine with it. May be a bit too hard for smaller kids. The waterfall is beautiful, at the bottom and the top of it. Both sides have rock pools where we had a refreshing (ice cold) swim. Really cool spot! The entire loop was just under 4km.
M.
These falls are really beautiful, with deep, clear, and relaxing swimming holes at the base and at the top of the falls, so wear your swimsuit when it is summer time! Be prepared, though... the water can be very cold, even in the middle of Summer.
The areas around the pools are rocky, and can be a little slippery and rough on your feet, so wear some waterproof shoes or sandals.
The trailhead is only about 1/2 mile from the campground and main store in Piha. You can walk or drive to the trailhead and there is plenty of parking. There are restrooms at the parking area, and a few picnic tables at the parking area, and at the start of the trail.
The trail is popular, and does get busy on the weekends and on holidays, so be aware that parking might be limited during those times. The trail is well developed and easy to walk, with only moderate elevation changes. It takes about 25 minutes to walk out to the falls. The loop trail is about 1 mile each way (2 miles total). If you walk the full loop at the end, there are multiple amazing viewpoints to see the falls.
Take the time to take the trail to the top of the falls, as the views from there are amazing and it’s a nice place to sit in the small pools to relax. A beautiful place that you must visit and check off your list when you are in Piha or drive out to when you are visiting the Auckland area!
E.
Stunning natural waterfall about 2 hour drive from Auckland CBD. A wild drive there on Mountain cliffs and over the coast of Piha.. but other than that the 30 min hike to the falls is well worn and easy to do, and the waterfall is gorgeous at the base. Worth checking out!
d.
Family friendly walk, easy to do and a rewarding waterfall to enjoy at the end.
L.
What a good walk! You are covered by the trees which provides shade nearly the entire route. On a busy day it can get a bit crowded around the waterfall but still an excellent experience overall. For the daring hearts, you can take a dip, both top and bottom of the waterfall. Recommended if you haven't been here before.
L.
There are two separate carparks one is right where the entrance is and the other is 20m on the left before you get to entrance. The walk for this one is mostly uphill and is steep in some places(steps/stairs) the views are worth it in my opinion, there's also a walkway to the top of waterfall but again lots of stairs to go up. Then you take the same way back to carpark so it's downhill all the way

M.
Beautiful kept track to the bottom of the waterfall. For a more challenging and harder walk go to the top of the waterfall. View of the forest canopy is breathtaking. the ice cold water in the pool is refreshing on a hot summers day. Parking is linited to get there early.
S.
Did the 2.75km long Kitekite Falls Walk on rainy Sunday. Very well maintained path mad it easy. On the way to the top of the Falls, lots of steps but gradual climb.
Be aware of some stream crossings testing your agility and balance, particularly on a wet day.
You may park close to the cleaning station or near the public🚻 or the main 🅿️.
Well worth a try. Recommended.
A.
Great walk, beatiful waterfall. Make sure you take different track (left or right) on the way to the waterfall and back. There is a steep walk up the stairs to the top of the waterfall but no benches to sit and have a rest halfway. Make sure to walk further past the top if the waterfall to find a nice walk and a pond.
C.
Easy breezy walk (according to my wife). Plenty of parking spaces just outside the entrance. It takes about 25-30 mins to the fall. You can expect some hike but definitely not much (5-7 mins maybe?). Kitekite fall is quite shallow but if you go to the top of the fall, you can have a cheeky dip there.
S.
Enjoyed the trek to the falls. Worth repeating.
s.
Heaven! Take the track to the right for an easier walk 😄
M.
This place was AMAZING ! it is quite abit of a walk to the top, but trust me its worth it once you reach there. Theres a pool in which you can swim, when we went there it was literally ice cold. But its nice once your in, walked back down after an 1hr of swimming, only to swim some more at the bottom of the falls. The water is so fresh and clean ! Well worth the trip. Its best to go early in the morning before others start arriving.
D.
Its is just a small water fall. 1 KM from PIHA beach and 30min walk to the waterfall from the main entrance. Its quit easy track for the youngsters but may be tricky for elderly people. We can go to top of tthe waterfall. If you are traveling with kid, then be extra careful and always stay on track.
D.
The track to the falls has been upgraded in the past year or so, which makes it quite easy to get to the falls. The walk takes about 15-20 minutes depending on how quick you walk, with great views between the trees along the way. There a few steep steps down to the fall pool if you take the righthand track so take it easy, but it's worth it. Dog friendly too (if on leads).
L.
Great little walk make sure your comfy and have running walking shoes. Not really baby friendly as it's slippery some spots and you have to cross rocks over the river.
T.
Great 30 mint walk from the car park, be care full during wet season its slippery!
B.
We had a morning to walk to the falls. After going through the wash station, we walked on the tracks to the base of the waterfall. There were a few viewpoints on the way there looking over the waterfall. The bushwalk to the falls is quite nice and relaxing. The base has a pool at the bottom and it was quite crowded.
Once there we decided to walk to the top of the falls. The path to the top wasn't too difficult and it ended at the top. There were a few pools at the top which seem quite deep, and you could walk close to the edge to look across the area. It has a really scenic view but it is quite high up so some people may not be comfortable getting to the edge. The rocks weren't too slippery but it would be prudent to be careful particularly when you are close to the water.
The walk wasn't very difficult but having water or snacks on hand is handy particularly on hot days. It was a nice round walk going from the falls to the carpark.
S.
Loved the walk
Highly recommend
The walkway was very safe 👌 we went to the top of the falls then back down
M.
Great walk through out the forest. Well kept trail and stairs. Not a particularly tough hike. About 45 minutes round trip. Kid friendly not stroller friendly. Great views of the top and the falls at the end.
O.
Nice walking trail plus you can see the waterfall is a bonus!!
Aucklander should try this. Recommended!
J.
Amazing trail leading to the falls. The walk takes around 30 mins. The scene is worth the long walk. Good place for swimming.
A.
Good short walk to the falls through a few open tracks. Ideal for less experienced hikers and basic tramping. Wear good soled shoes. Jandals are fine if not too concerned with slips and trips.
M.
very good hiking with family. even my 3 year old had fun. highly recommend as a family day out.
J.
Awesome view from the bottom of the falls and on top as well. Best to go for a hike and swim is like summer so you will have more fun jumping on cold water. There are 2 tracks to choose. We just go straight to the falls (not left turn). Recommended route is going for falls first to see the beauty of the falls which will take 25 minutes only. Then you can cross from the falls then head up to the top. At the top of the falls you can find swimming pools in the area. The best experience I had was to jump on cold water after walking from a hot weather. What an absolute relief!
G.
Absolutely stunning waterfall with 3 layers. That can be climbed up, does take about 15/20min. Once at the top with a nice few of the local jungle and when your at the top there is a waterfall pool that you can chill in and take in the fresh air..
At the bottom you can see there is a huge large pool where you can swim and feel that fresh water bite your skin..
R.
Really awesome place to visit. Family with younger kids should use a baby carrier. At the end of waterwall it can be difficult for elderly or young kids to get down to the waterfall.
C.
This walk is very steep and took us a while, please take your sunblock and trekking shoes. Its very beautiful and you can walk over the water if its shallow enough, you can also absale down the waterfall as we saw people doing this when we visited. The area has no toilets so keep this in mind before trekking. You will need to disinfect your shoes before and after you do the trek to protect the trees. I highly recommend the walk.
S.
Look how amazing this place is...
The track is so well organized and easy to walk.
The birds are singing around like just to welcome us to their home... The stories during the track and the beautiful tree are just like a trick for us to take a break and breathe for a while before continue to claim up to the top.
J.
Kitekite falls is a Breathtaking trek! Spectacular views and fairly easy to complete. Most of the paths are gravel and there are plenty of stairs leading to the top of the waterfall. I would highly, highly recommend anyone to check this place out. You can walk and swim at the bottom of the Waterfall, then make your way along the path right to the top to get some photos. Be careful at all times through as the rocks to the tip of the Waterfall are slippery. This track is currently open, please follow the instructions to clean your shoes properly, to help protect our native Kauri.
J.
About a 25-minute walk from the car park. Use good shoes as there are challenging parts that require crossing over water on rocks and inclined cliff-side walks but most of the path is paved and have boardwalks. Also don't forget your togs, when you get there the swim hole has cool, clean water.
f.
Nice bush walk to falls. Must visit place. Car park and public restroom is available.
M.
Fabulous hiking and a bit steep bud I think almost every one can do it. A hiking shoes will be ideal but really no need for it, any close one will do the job. And yes walk to the top , absolutely worth the extra 15 minutes.
R.
definitely picturesque! to the top of the falls requires going over rock boulders across the lower portion of the water run; extreme care and proper shoes a must. trails are well maintained gravel or wood foot path. uphill portion is about 10°-15° grade with steps and with duration of about 20 minutes of slow trek either on the lower or top portion of the falls. easy and quick hike with incredible return of fantastic view. (toilets located at the base of the trail; ample parking space; winding & narrow roads to the falls, 50 minutes from auckland cbd)
V.
Definitely worth a visit with the fam and your dog 🙌🏾 Easy Track and Can go for a dip too if you like. Kids will love it. 😜 Only 5 minutes opposite direction of Piha Beach. So plan your next family weekend day trip to Kite Kite Falls ❤️
R.
Amazing experience, the walk to the fall is around 30 min from the carpark.
We went with kids and it was not a problem at all as the tracks and everything is marked for you.
The fall is good to see and also you can swim in the fall lake.
N.
Good trekking site on the west, easy to intermediate difficulty. Very shady, well maintain treks. You can swim in the waterfall, or abseiling from the top of the waterfall. Eels in the water, have to be careful, one of them jump and bite the finger of the children ( very rare indeed). Highly recommended, only 4 mins to Piha Beach
L.
Lovely day trip destination walking in the dappled shade of the forest, approximately 1 hour round trip plus viewing and swimming stops. Waterfall swimming hole was busy with lots of summer visitors but worth the visit and we had a lovely refreshing cold swim.
N.
The track to the falls was amazing and so relaxing . Do not hurry down this nature trail. Listen and observe and spend every second to absorb the beauty of God's creation . Listen to the sounds of the forest as you walk. It will inspire you. The falls ar just exquisite and shrouded in complete solitude
A.
Great place to visit, take your family, just a piece of advice put the right shoes! It is around 4 km track where at the top you can have a reward by having a good swim. Highly recommend
Á.
I would say it’s a bit harder to reach because a lot of stairs up there. You need to be fitter. But it’s a great track from both way. I loved it.
M.
Awesome walk from either the bottom car park or from the top. As you get closer under no circumstances leave the track. In 2016 a young man fell to his death as he was venturing off the track. Take lunch and perhaps a blanket for a picnic at the top or at the bottom. If you're courageous you can enjoy the pool at the bottom. It is quite "refreshing"! All it takes is about 2 to 2.5 hours. Walk is easy, perhaps wear hiking boots. After the walk have a nice coffee at the beach in Piha. Bring your coffee in a thermos. The prices at the local cafes are outrageous, so don't bother.
M.
Excellent, short day hike up to the falls. This protected forest is beautiful and the trail is mostly developed and easy to walk. The only warning is that there are a few slick, water crossings including the falls themselves. Highly recommend the optional hike up to the upper pools above the falls.
c.
First half of the trail was nice...almost flat for the first 15mins....then the climbing begins. I don't think u need to be very fit to be able to reach the waterfall at the end but it's kinda consistently uphill for the other half of the trail. Just follow the trail through and directions are clearly marked. At the very end you have to climb down some stairs and worn out rock steps to get to the waterfall. *Not suitable for very young kids.
At right side of waterfall, there is another trail to climb up all the way to the top of the waterfall. Look for the trail marker. Overall it's was well worth at the end. Just keep going !
k.
Differently worth the 30 min walk to the bottom of the falls, well maintained tracks... the photos of the drit track are the tracks to the top of the falls which takes about 10 to 15 minutes at a reasonable pace. Toilets in the car park area.
D.
This is a beautiful walk within easy reach of Auckland city centre. If you're only around for a few days, definitely something to think about doing. The track is well maintained and very easy. The views along the way are fantastic. Definitely put on your bug spray though!
M.
The Kitekite track is well-maintained and enables you to have an easy and enjoyable walk. It gets really difficult going down to the falls though...but it was beautiful and well worth the effort.
R.
It's just beautiful. The walk to the falls isn't too far and it isn't too difficult. I went while it had been raining and the falls we're flowing beautifully.
D.
Fantastic walk out in the waitakere ranges. A reasonably easy walk to the base of the falls with a bit of a stretch of you want to see the view from the top.
Walk is very well laid out after the refit post kauri die back onset, please follow the instructions to clean your shoes, stay on the established paths so as to maintain the environment for everyone to enjoy.
L.
One of the most beautiful hiking trails, easy to do with kids and so worth it. The council has upgraded the pathways and the cleaning stations to fight against the kauri dieback disease.
S.
Nice walk along the river, can be crowded and the water is refreshing. Don't forget to take the Connect Track to the top of the falls! Cool views and rockpools as well.
J.
Real nice place to take a walk along a stream in the native bush. This is also a kauri die back area so you need to follow the guidelines for the walk too. The falls are real nice. It was well worth taking the extra bit of the trail to go to the top too.
D.
Very good 25 min hike ! A nice extra 12 min hike to the top of the falls with some rock pools . Does get busy on weekends afternoons
J.
Beautiful hike and amazing forests and waterfall. And don't forget to hike up to the cascades at top of the waterfall. Amazing!
A.
Well worth the walk. Signs say 30 minutes from the car park and at a moderate rate it’s pretty fair. Study footwear would be best but if you are light on your feet sandles might cut it. Well worth bringing swim gear for a dip when you make it to the falls. Expect that it will be busy on warm days.
R.
Excellent walk. Takes about 45mins to reach the top of the waterfall and ally 30mins to reach the bottom of the waterfall.
Walking track is well maintained and so are the steps.
O.
Great hike through the forest with a beautiful waterfall at the end. The trail was very nicely groom. Wish I had of brought trunks for the waterfall pool.
H.
Awfully loud with the constant barrage of water hurdling down from above. There needs to be a piping system inside the cliff like is done with sewage etc. Also husband saw youngsters at the top which made us feel unsafe so we left. Fencing needs to be put up or otherwise area cordoned off entirely. Other than that it was fairly nice although car park needs to be closer.
W.
An amazing place to hike for 30 min. I did it with my husband and my toddler and we had lots of fun.. grab the swimming suit :)
M.
A very nice place if you are looking for a hike or a bush walk. It takes around 25-30 mins of walking to reach the falls but believe me, the time and energy is worth it! One can even swim at the base of the waterfall and it is also possible to go at the top of the waterfall which is another 15-20 mins of hike
f.
Beautiful fall, not very far from Piha beach. You can also go up the track and can see the origin of the fall. Three tier fall
W.
Moderate hard to climb. But it’s so nice whether to climb up to the top or just the waterfall. Amazing that it’s so close to the city. Highly recommend.
S.
Excellent short hike. Get your food and water. Have good pair of hike shoes, probably water proof
L.
An awesome short walk to some picturesque falls! You can swim at both the top and bottom of the falls as well as there being a loop track back to experience all the place has to offer. It's a little crowded but definitely worth the trip out
M.
This is an amazing walk with a fantastic ending. Would recommend for anyone who walks regularly as there are a few steep and tiring parts of the track that might be demanding for beginner walkers.
I wouldn't take a stroller as there are plenty of steps and steep, slippery parts especially after rainfall.
Don't forget your camera because the views and waterfalls are beautiful.
Make sure you pack a water bottle because it is a long walk there and back.
v.
A beautiful waterfall. Just outside Auckland city. A perfect place to visit on a weekend. There is also a infinity pool on the way to the falls. The hike it’s just amazing.
E.
Nicest waterfall I’ve seen in New Zealand so far!!! You have to walk around 15 minutes to reach it and you can go swimming at the top as well as on the ground! Really beautiful
S.
Such a beautiful walk. My advice is take some time to admire the creatures, eels, birds and insects. The water fall is beautiful and there is plenty of place to sit down and enjoy the fall with some food and chill. Soak it in and enjoy!
N.
Hard to review this one coz it was a beautiful day walk to get to Kitekite but it’s a relatively small waterfall. From the car park it’s about a 25 min walk to the fall and you can climb to the top or be at the bottom of the fall. Quite a few steps to climb so wear sneakers. The walk to the fall is relatively flat apart from the steps. The fall itself is nice and people we’re swimming in it
G.
Great walk, it's a good little workout on the legs if you walk a good pace and you are awarded with a magnificent waterfall! Take your togs and towel for a dip!
O.
Its impressive. We didnt take the path to go up top because we were short on time. But I still enjoyed it. The hike there is nice as well
N.
Very neat hike through some indigenous New Zealand forests. The trek winds through the valley along side a quaint little stream and eventually leads to an amazing waterfall, KiteKite Falls!
A.
An excellent and relatively easy walk. Open, with caution, to walkers & dogs on leads - kauri dieback is a real concern.
Take photos and take your time!
M.
It's a pretty nice walk. Just 30 mins to get to the falls. Almost the whole way is a board walk or stairs now.
M.
clean and clear tracks, spectacular view at the top! we went around 9am so it wasn't crowded. water is so cold but soooo refreshing 🥰🥰🥰awesome experience!
C.
Beautiful waterfall! In October it was very quiet. Be careful after rain, it was very slippery. You can take a bath when it's warm enough.
E.
Easy walk and close to Auckland. We didn’t know you could swim in it. We’ll be bringing our Togs and a picnic next time.
S.
Kiaora and Welcome to Kitekite Falls situated on the beautiful west coast of New Zealand. Just a 40min drive from Auckland City Kitekite Falls is found in the stunning Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. The name "Kitekite" is the derived from the original Indigenous Maori name "Kitakita" which refers to the fast flowing white colour of the Falls.
J.
Great waterfall! It's a mission to get from the end of the path to in front of the falls though. People have piled up a few branches to cross the water.. pretty dangerous
O.
Beautiful waterfall but crowded on the weekends
B.
Beautiful walk with an awesome waterfall.
D.
A short, easy walk. Tracks are well cared for.
A.
Back here after many years and they implemented shoe cleaning features so that we don’t cause any more harm to the local trees. While you’re there, so check out a bridge nearby where there are huge eels swimming in the shadows. Took video but can’t post here.
B.
Not as easy of a walk with wet slippery rocks but certainly fun! Dress for it please! Your feet will be wet and there are places with overgrown plants. Don't forget to wash your shoes before and after entering. Protect our native forests :)
J.
Really nice walk, the falls are impressive
R.
It was quite crowded when we visited so the water was a bit churned up, but it was still definitely worth the hike and the swim was lovely.
M.
Don't trust Google maps to get you there, go to the parks actual site. But the falls are incredible! And swimming at both the top and bottom.
J.
Easy short hike to the 3 levels of waterfalls and good refreshing swim
D.
Very nice tall waterfalls that has a few cascades in between. The track is well maintained and can be busy. Plenty of native Piwakawaka and Tui around. Decent beginners walk of about 45mins each way from the carpark. The falls has a few points to access and enjoy, you can get to the top of the falls, as well as get a photo from the bottom of the falls.
T.
Calm my heart with the sound of flowing water, and the bird's singing.
H.
Lovely walk through the forest via a well maintained boardwalk. Optional ascent to the top of the waterfall, there used to be a track onwards from this but this is now closed. Area is a kauri protected so need to clean shoes before and after and stick to the track! A few Kauri seen from the track. Easily done in an hour.
M.
An absolutely wonderful place near the famous Piha beach on the west coast of Auckland.
A great walk amongst wonderful native tree's with the tui's and wood pigeon's singing as you make your way along the path enjoying the fantastic scenery and a tranquil pool beneath a cascading waterfall that awaits you.
This is an easy walk with a great reward for you at the waterfall or for the more fit and adventurous quicken your pace along the path and you will definitely feel your heart pumping.
For a leisurely walk or a quick cross training exercise no matter which one you choose will have a great time in the New Zeakand Bush as you explored Auckland's west coast.

Just beautiful. What a great experience to swim in a waterfall. A pleasant walk to get there. We walked from the campgrounds where we were staying at Piha beach. It took about 40 mins each way. Very worth while. Water was freezing but clear and refreshing after the walk. I’d say wear runners for the walk but take things or shoes to swim in as there are some sharp rocks at the waterfall but we managed with just runners and then sat in the sun to dry off. Spotted some eels in the water.
J.
Beautiful walk, swim is very much worth it. Super cold.
V.
Amazing place for summer outing. Had long walk under the woods. Swimming and food..haha...my favorite experience there. Nice place for tracking and campaign. So many other tracks and they all lead you to various points. I tried to follow water to find origin bit i lost..haha...but you can go and try.
L.
Amazing amazing amazing what a beautiful walk up to water fall it was and is very beautiful
S.
Good place for short hike, can swim on top of the fall as well
V.
Best waterfall in West Auckland. 30 min walk from car park, relatively easy walk for all ages.
D.
Good track, some slippery rocks/stairs at the waterfall.
C.
Quite a tall falls, can walk right to the bottom of it; good open space for photos or short picnic break. The trail to it is nice, with trail signage, about 25mins each way.
P.
Such a well prepared track that all the family can navigate and enjoy. So close to the city yet far enough to think not and get lost in the peace of the natural environment.
A.
Wow! A lovely walk and the Falls are magnificent. The track is really good with a few uphill and some steps. About 40mins each way
A.
Really nice waterfall! It took 25 minutes by walking not fast.
S.
There is no proper Drinking water, Covered walk way or atleast shelter incase if any sudden rain. Good to have toilets too.
L.
Amazing walk inside mother nature. And then cool off under the Waterfall. A definite to do!
D.
This is like an actual pretty tall waterfall at a global level not just oh it’s good for New Zealand and it’s close by
You can swim to a small area under the waterfall where the rock is over u sheltering u with some foot holds so u can chill and look out from behind the waterfall which is amazing
L.
Pleasant and relatively safe 30 min walk to the waterfall. Breathtaking views and refreshingly chill water. Great thing to do on the way to Piha beach.
O.
Wonderful falls near to Piha Beach. It's just a short walk but definitely worth it.
J.
A great walk, going anticlockwise avoids climbing the many steps. A good track for kids but there are steps both ways that aren't easy for prams. The effort is well rewarded by the views of the falls or playing at the base. Worth the effort
P.
Amazingly beautiful, comfortable walkways, short but steep climb to the top and absolutely rewarding.
M.
A beautiful place. The 30min walk will be OK for an average fitness level. Some ups and downs with stairs. There is a beautiful young Kauri at the very beginning of the track and a massive hallow trunk at the beginning aswell.
S.
Nice little hike. Bring a swimsuit if you want to swim at the waterfall.
J.
Nice round trip through the forest. Only a moderate level of fitness required. Better at low season when there are not many people there
R.
Gorgeous water fall, with lots of spot to relax and enjoy the nature.
T.
Beautifully maintained park with a nice walk up to the base of the falls as well as another walk up to the top. Public restrooms, plenty of parking, etc. Well done!
R.
Beautiful waterfall, the water is nice and cold for a swim in hot weather
M.
Great waterfalls, easy walking track, only when you want to go down to the falls, thats the challenging one, especially with the kids ✌️
M.
Did this stunning walk early on the morning with my two teenagers. The walk was not too difficult but did require some effort. Was definitely a highlight of the day.
C.
Awesome walk, about 30min walk to the top of the waterfall.
R.
Great walk in lovely surrounds to a beautiful waterfall.
O.
An amazing and spiritual place... sadly though people who visited needs to also bring their own bin bags....
S.
Water was so cold. It’s really Cool! 🥶
A.
so great water fall view,if come at summer suggest go to there before 8 a.m.
E.
Menu items look better than the actual food. But to be fair the restaurant was operating on what seemed like a skeleton crew during lockdown. They were scrambling to fill phone orders and walk upstairs and they were very pleasant. 😊
R.
Cool little walk up to the falls...can carry on up to the top of the falls as well
R.
Nice falls but also try karekare falls
B.
The walk was so easy! We even went while it was raining a bit and it was not bad. There was great parking as well. The toilets are outhouses and the mosquitoes will definitely attack you haha. Use your imagination. ;)
A.
Nice walk, but way too crowded, compared to other beautiful places around. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the lush nature!
M.
From the top best view 60 min walk return
J.
Awsome walk. Would be a 3 out of 5 for difficulty. Lots of uphill on the second half of track. pack light, allow for plenty of time.
M.
Near to Piha black sand beach.
20 to 30 minutes walk plus
10 minutes more to top water fall
5 minutes more to lower water fall
T.
Great walk, especially if you aren't very fit. The walk is relatively short with moderate uphill sections.
Some sections of the walk require you to walk across water over some rocks, so do wear some good, grippy shoes for safety.
There is an area where you can view the waterfall from below, and a section of the track that branches off and takes you to the top of the falls. Both are worth doing.
T.
Fun short walk. Track is not challenging unless you want to cross the river on the way up, where there are many stairs. Great for an cold swim after hot day on beach.
J.
Short walk (+-30 mins), well maintained path, great scenery.
a.
Average sized waterfall inside forest.
It is a small trek away from road access. Not pram/wheelchair friendly. Well laid out track is there but there are a lot of steps to climb.
You can access both top and bottom of falls.
Tip: If you are in the vicinity and steps are not your thing, try the smaller waterfall near Karekare beach instead.
N.
It's a very special waterfall
M.
Very nice, not too far away of Auckland
Too get to the waterfall,
Important: Follow Kitekite Falls Carpark on Google Maps!
j.
Lovely walk, loads of steps to visit a lovely waterfall. Dog friendly, but dog has to be on a leash, well sign posted and you can walk back a different way. Note: take the left hand track if you want to go to the top of the waterfall, some nice pools up there, but all the views of from the bottom of the water fall. Track is very well maintained so any footwear will get you there.
H.
Nice walk path. Beautify waterfall.
m.
The falls are quite beautiful and the pool beneath them is great for a quick dip. Like so many tourist places in NZ it gets quite busy, so be prepared for that. The walk in is fairly short but has some pretty steep hills The falls, combined with a trip to Piha beach for a swim or surf lesson is a really good day trip.
F.
Love this place 1st time I've visited the place. So many different walkway paths to get to the falls. Most of the walk to the falls are semi wheelchair friendly. Did not get the chance to climb to the top but if your wanting a nice easy walk to the falls for a quick dip (it's freezing) this is definitely a place to check out.
A.
Just completed the walk this afternoon. Definitely worth the trip and effort. Water is very refreshing and the view is absolutely stunning. If you haven't been I would definitely recommend it. 10 out of 10.
F.
Lovely waterfall and you get to go right to the bottom of it. It's near Piha beach ⛱️🌊 There is a little hike to get to the waterfall and the walk down to the falls is very attractive through the bushes passing swimming holes. Lovely place for a nice swim 🏊 and a picnic ofcourse by the falls. Make sure you wear a good pair of sturdy shoes. Public toilet 🚻 facilities are available. Parking 🅿️ available at the carpark area. Can be crowded during the weekends in summer. There is accomodations available nearby if you wish to spend the night since Piha beach is close by and you get to enjoy all of it.
R.
Beautiful waterfalls. Really close to Piha beach. East to walk on track/boardwalk/steps to get to the falls. A couple of different tracks to take including one to the top of the falls. Really nice to swim under the falls even though the water is so cold! Worth a visit if you are in the area!
j.
Clean and beautiful surroundings.
M.
Great small easy hike. Risk of getting your feet wet at one stream crossing and the falls themselves depending on which way you take. Good sweat out to the top of the falls itself. Always be safe as it can slippery on all the rocks. Great for a midweek walk as well a quick weekend one too.
M.
Beautiful place, forest and range. You have to walk for 25mins before reaching the Falls. I love the beautiful sceneries on the way to the Falls. Tall trees, birds singing, streams of water. Enjoyed it so much!!
K.
30 minute walk from the sign to the fall. Experience the nature. Check it out if you haven't been there yet.
P.
A very calm and a quiet place with a very scenic path leading up to it. Definitely a must visit if you go down to piha
M.
Nikau palm bush walk, easy walk along stream at first. Nice new track and boardwalk. Uphill to the falls, steady uphill climb may be challenging for some. View of whole stepped waterfall from track. Going down to the water view is just the last 2 steps falling into a small pool, swimable. Can cross stream to other side via rocks
D.
Great walk, very scenic, can even take infants and young kids, very leisurely hike
J.
Awesome. Great walk easy enough for my 5 year old too! So beautiful!
B.
Good place for going on a picnic!
Free entrance
A.
Nice track for hiking.stuning scenery.Breath taking moments.. absolute adventure.
T.
Roads are windy on the way to Piha. Plenty of parking just a short walk to the track start. Must clean shoe station to prevent kauri die back. Pretty full on hike. Tracks are maintained by DOC. Beautiful falls but please take your rubbish with you. Including food waste. Please, Keep the noise down, such a shame at such a peaceful place.
D.
A fantastic place for a magical bush walk and swim
s.
Mesmerising waterfalls after a 20 minutes hike near Piha beach.
n.
Nice walk with amazing view from the bottom and top of the falls :)
P.
Fantastic, the photos just don't do it justice!
It looked like a small insignificant straightforward journey but I was pleasantly surprised and wrong about my impressions when looking it up online.
Very happy that I chose to come here, and my partner felt equally blessed by the experience; I would highly recommend it if you've never been and scrapped for ideas on what to do.
I wouldn't say this is wheelchair friendly tho, so bare that in mind.
Q.
We found the walk reasonably comfortable and once you reach the waterfall, it is worth the walk. It is very scenic. We will take an opportunity to go when in the west:) and the day is sunny :)
F.
A great walk, not too hard but I would recommend sturdy shoes.
A.
Beautiful...gruelling uphill walk but so worth it
O.
So impressed with what our native bush and rivers have to offer. Fantastic.
H.
The walk itself is lovely and the track is boarded nicely. It's mostly shade covered which is a relief in the heat. The falls are beautiful to swim at and the water is fresh. You can also walk to the top of the falls with an extra 5-10 minutes walking, though at this time of year there were a lot of wasps.
K.
20 minutes hike for the average fitness. Swim in a well chilly fresh waterfall.
The track was recently had a facelift so your dirty feet stay well clear of the Kauri roots which is a bonus!
Expect a few vloggers + cameras on a sunny day, not ideal for skinny dippers 😢
E.
Track was well kept and safe, walk for all ages and fitness levels, kid friendly, beautiful scenery, very little litter around!foot disinfectant gates available for keep kauri dieback disease away!! Dog Gy friendly.waterfall beautiful spot to sit and vibe out, or swim and take cool pics.Definately recommend.
D.
This was a trip that we didn't plan , just got in the car and drove over on a overcast day.
Car park wasn't full since it was a weekday right after a rainy long weekend.
Getting there was fairly easy via scenic road from Henderson, took us about 30 minutes.
Good track for young kids , my Son who was 5 did well , but make sure to take water and snack, we took an hour and a half to do the trip, we did not do the loop since the one way we had to cross the stream and after rains it was a bit chilly and slippery.
W.
One of my favorite spots to visit, would rather go here than the beach sometimes
F.
Amazing walk in the bush which leads to the top of the waterfall with a small pool that will be an awesome experience to dip in for those visiting in the summers. The walk loops back to the bottom of the falls and back to the exit.
K.
Great short walk. You can swim at the top and the bottom of the falls. In summer it tends to be quite busy. The walk starts off quite flat, but goes up hill after a bit which is moderately difficult, if you aren't too fit you may need a few breaks, but the distance isn't too far so most people should be fine. Not really suitable for prams but if you take the right track at the fork there is a semi short distance you'd have to carry to get to the bottom of the falls. Be aware there is a little bit of rocks you have to walk over. Overall a great walk, nice bush, also take the time to read how the place got it's name at the lookout, quite a gruesome story
g.
Gorgeous waterfalls. The trek up was a bit hard,my wifr struggled but once at the top it was truly stunning. The temperature when we went eas about 25°C but the water at the top was freezing because of the trees shadows. All the same the different pools were awesome. People jumping off, sitting on the edge of oblivion. The bottom of the waterfall was beautiful too. Nice clean water but again abit cold. Highly recommend.
T.
Cool falls, but not quite worth the hike.
Y.
Easy board walk almost all the way. Not advisable for strollers as it has steps, but very easy to get to, and suitable for people with kids.
K.
Height of fall- 80 metres
Type of fall-vertical descent in the final 3-tiers
Time - 25mins walk from car park to bottom of fall and
20 mins to reach top of falls....overall more than 1 hr walk to enjoy both pleasant view...
Not contains high volume of water but best trekking activity with family and children...
Overall good place if u have snacks and want to spend good quality time....😇
C.
The Kitekite Falls are beautiful, well worth the long trek into the forest and up the mountain. Hiking shoes are a must to cross over rocks and climb the paths. There's a great place where you can stand at the top of the falls and look out over the valley.
R.
Beautiful place, gets pretty busy though
p.
Nice place with a good bush walk and an awsome waterfall. Pretty tiring walk to the top of the falls but you can take your time and rest as you walk up.
N.
A great adventure for me.
Also Nice and clean.
E.
a highly recommended hiking spot
B.
Great walk well worth it
n.
Absolutely loved this place well looked after, will do it again.
S.
What a surprising gift from Mother nature just up the road from Piha. You would though.. The beach just there and no way the water fall would be close. Yes.. It is that close.
Have a sandwich lunch box will definitely be a great palce to enjoyed.
Not suitable for young kids that still on pram i saw some take them. I would recommended maybe age about 3 up for kids will safe time.
S.
Nice spot with easy access to the fall. A short 30 minutes walk from the car park.
K.
It was an experience of a lifetime for me in Piha!! About 3kilometers walk to and from the Kitekite waterfall, which should take on the average an hour. A number of beautiful tall kauri trees inside the walk, some of those may have aged around 50 years with other plants and foliages greenery typically found in New Zealand. One could imagine how their colours change with the season.
Yes, the sole of your shoes must be clean into and out of the forest walk and the waterfall. Beware of high walking, narrow paths, low walking, walking through water on stones if you are not firm on your feet and in your steps! If you intend to get down to where the water falls, that could be too steep and also unstable to some people!!
K.
Very nice place. Must see. Great track to walk.
F.
Easy 2km walk from the car park. It does get steep in places. I'd recommend wearing shoes for this walk. But carry slippers along to wear when you get there. Water at this waterfall can be very cold even on a hot day but once you get in, it's just perfect clear water you can swim in. Beautiful. Must do if you're in the Piha beach area.
J.
Its currently in a great state with nice wooden paths, bridges and stairs where needed.
z.
U gonna love this.
J.
Great place yo visit but need to be fit.
S.
A great way to spend a good weather day.
Trail is very nice. Not difficult to hike.
Cautious of Stone steps down to waterfall front.
B.
Beautiful pl. Also clise to Piha beach! Good place!!
T.
Superb beautiful and popular peaceful natural oasis. Easy access off the road. Part of an excellent track through rare historic tarairi forest.
M.
Its is amazingly beautiful. The walkway is well maintained. But accessibility only
For individuals and not young families with babies or wheelchairs.
C.
Beautiful 3 stages waterfall, come in summer for a good swim!
S.
Lovely place. The walk is pretty easy. Some slighting muddy bits. Swimming under the waterfall was lots of fun. Very refreshing as my tour guide Terry said of the water temp haha. The views are pretty amazing too especially from the top of the waterfall.
D.
12 mints walk to the beach from the falls really good place
J.
A most enjoyable walk. It was a little steep but well cared for path which made it very easy. Well worth the trip up to the top of the falls.
R.
Nice walk through forest. Some steps towards the end. Reward is the waterfall.
S.
Pleasant walk with a beautiful waterfall, very easy track to follow with clear paths and signage.
A.
Really cool waterfall, very cold but clear water, saw two eels, 30 min walk isn't not too long, especially with the stream on the side and shaded walkway + amazing view made it awesome.
C.
Easy walk to either vantage points to the top or bottom of the falls. Both trails actually lead you to the bottom but the trail on the right gives you a view of the top, not to the top. Marvellous views.
R.
Really nice bush walk to the falls, splits off to path to top or path to bottom of falls. They both go up which tells you how high above road level it is. prefer winter after rain as bigger flow and a bit less foliage so you can see more of the stream going alongside the path. Well maintained and new paths being constructed of the floor to protect the bush and prevent transfer of Kairi dieback which is affecting a lot of the forests and bush.
Just follow the rules and our future generations will enjoy it as well.
T.
Such a great gas station .. soo many good options and healthy options too I was pleasantly surprised. 5 stars from me
E.
The tramp to the base of the falls are mostly level and easy on even younger kids. Even in the heat of summer there is shade for the majority of the walk. And if it's really warm, bring a towel and take a dip in the pool beneath the falls. Very refreshing!
C.
Nice little trek around the place
A.
Amazing trek !! We took a short way through the woods after we reached the water fall which was way too slippery. Pls take proper care while going through short way, read caution board at the start and end of that path .
There is a usuall path for hike upto the top of the waterfall, which is good and less exhausting!!
It was worth hiking till the top . Beautiful pools up there with spectacular view.
a.
Awesome retreat with beach attached...
C.
Good track. Pretty setting. Worthwhile outing
B.
So beautiful and a fun pool you can swim in. You can swim to the waterfall too. Very cool! Technically you aren't supposed to go on the hike because it is in the property of the Maori people so you have to keep your voices down as you go on the hike. Also be aware that some eels live in the pool benieth the waterfall.
P.
Quite a relaxing walk out to the falls and back. It was a bit muddy after the recent rains but that was soon washed off by paddling in the river. The walk up to the top is a little more strenuous and was the very muddy part of the walk. Arriving at the top was a bit of an anticlimax as there was no real views unless you shuffled right to the edge to look over. I would advise reasonable shoes and take a towel to dry off after a paddle.
J.
It isn't a walk in the park.
What I know now is that taking the track on the right side of the river up, not the stairs is the easier option.
I know the view is amazing because I've been there before.
n.
Beautiful place. Awesome place to swim. It's about 30mins walk from the carpark. Track is narrow but stable. Can be completed with slip on shoes. The end of the track at the base of the waterfall gets a bit tricky. The water is cold and refreshing on a hot summer day. The pool is about 2m deep at the base of the fall. The depth increases gradually. There is a ledge under the fall so it makes for awesome photo opportunity. There is no flotation device onsite so please take care and keep a close eye on the children. There is no rubbish disposal facilities there so you have to take everything back with you. There is toilets located at the start of the track by the carpark. The track is open currently however some side tracks are closed.
G.
We hiked all the way it say 25 min walk but we finished it in 15 I guess the excitement when you see those falls and all I wanted to do was to get in that cold water
L.
Beautiful walkway, busy somedays.
J.
Beautiful trail nice and easy for kids with a little bit of encouragement
L.
Love this place, a great walk and can be challenging depending on the route you take at the fork and if you choose to go to the top of the falls, but it is very much worth it.
S.
Walking to this place is the best you can do to know yourself. Its a 45 minute walk to see the falls and the same time or less to come backwards. If you are able to or if the situation allows, cross the water and take the route on the other side for your way back. It is very calm and refreshing walk, not too steep or not too easy. Worth going to see the falls. You can also do a bit of swimming/playing at the falls. If you are not the faint-hearted, you can go up hill and be at the top of the waterfalls.
D.
The top of the falls was okay. It wasn't that far but I wouldn't say it's worth the trek up. The other falls were great and the water you can swim in. Bring your swimming suit!
A.
A good 30min walk to the waterfalls, but you need to be careful when you reach closer as you need to balance on rocks to get there! Not clean for swimming, the water looked dirty.
T.
Beautiful waterfall, cascades over multiple levels of rock. Access via part of the Hillary Trail that is open. Be sure to clean your shoes!
A.
The walk down is beautiful. Take mozzie spray with you. The last few steps are a bit slippy. The falls are amazing and there is a great swimming spot there. Unfortunately when we went there it was very busy and there were a group of people there playing music very loudly and another group with a huge sheesha pipe. This did ruin what would have otherwise been a lovely location.
R.
Long up hill trek to get to the falls. The younger crowd didn't seem to have any difficulty with the trail. A little dangerous on slippery rocks at the very end. The more corageous can hike up to the top of falls. You must wipe/clean shoes before entering trail to prevent spreading virus dangerous to a local tree. New Zealand is very protective of its environment and does a great job making thier parks accessible to visitors.
j.
It's a long narrow walk to the falls, not recommended for walking with small kids but the swimming holes in the top of the falls are awesome..
P.
Kitekite falls is less than 30 minutes walk from the end of Glen Esk Road. Plenty of parking. It's a great Waitakere's bush walk through lots of native bush on a variety of board walk, gravel tracks and stairs. Easily completed by our 6 year old - and the 2 year old walked most of it too. You can do part of a loop coming back so you don't come down the way you went up. The kids enjoyed walking across a river (over stepping stones) on the way back. There is currently shoe cleaning in place to prevent the Kauri die back. Lovely spot to stop for a picnic - or if you're keen a swim below the falls.
e.
Beautiful falls. Multiple access paths, which are nice and comfortable to walk. Very cold water, refreshing on hot summer days.
A.
Great easy walk for young and old when it's dry!
E.
Once you arrived here at the lower part of the waterfall, make sure you give a bit of extra walk to the top. Amazing view and nice water to enjoy during hot summer day.
D.
This place is heavenly! It is a bit of a steep walk getting up there, but the path is beautiful and so is the scenery... and it is completely worth experiencing this waterfall and swimming area. Yeah... it's cold, but jump in!!
N.
.
(04/2017)
An awesome waterfall at the center of multiple Waitakere ranges tracks.
There is one nice and easy 30 minutes walkway to waterfall from the carpark which can be easily covered by kids and pets.
Spectacular viewpoints on the walkway where you can stop and enjoy the views.
It is little narrow and slippery at the end before you enter into front spot of waterfall. So you need to be little careful specially on days when it has rained.
Water is waist high and you can easily walk / swim in.
E.
Another amazing piece of nature what NZ can offer :)
T.
Very beautiful hiking, well signed and accessible.
You can to top of the fall and swim there in a king of natural pool (very cold water).
You can swim where the falls end as well.
T.
Love that place! Very nice and easy to walk, even with small kids.
c.
A towering waterfall a 30-minute walk from the trailhead. (1 hour round trip) With a well taken care of easy path that gets a bit rocky and slippery next to the waterfall.
M.
Very nice secluded place to hike. We took one of the shorter routes straight to the fall (30mins), which was a pretty good payoff. Nice place for a picnic or just to spend a day with the family.
P.
A beautiful waterfall but the way we took from Piha Road was long and tiresome and felt more like exercise walk which kind of ruined the mood. Otherwise should go with some extra clothes and towel for a cold dip under the fall!
S.
Only 25 minutes walk to this beautiful fall ❤️
C.
Excellent short hike to Kitekite falls! Well manicured trail with multiple routes to/from the waterfall. Would definitely recommend visiting as an addition to any trip to Piha beach
d.
Not much detail on the route but very nice and fantastic water falls. Earlier there must be road transport available till the falls but now just walking and track is also fine.
Only one toilet nearby and no maintenance of it.
No drinking water nearby.
S.
Amazing to swim in! Will be visiting again!!
N.
25 mins walk through forest. Amazing view
D.
Its a tuff walk but its worth the views
D.
A great little walk, not too challenging with some outstanding views, close to the beach and other walks too.
S.
Lots of steps to get to the top but we all need some exercise!?
J.
Summers day ... shaded throughout upto the falls and back...give it a shot and you wont be disappointed...a quick track but please adhere to the prompts to keep all safe...will visit again most likely...🙃
K.
That was a real pleasure to walk trough the forest, we absolutely loved it. And the falls are amazing, water is not very cold :)
B.
I visited the falls last week and was dismayed to discover lots of people who were plastering themselves with sun block before sun bathing and swimming in the pool. The result is that the surface of the water was covered with an oily film. This will inevitably be harming aquatic life from the pool down to and into the ocean and endangering the eels which live in the stream and which only thrive where the water is free of contamination.
s.
Great walk and nice place to visit
L.
Easy walk to bottom of falls. Good places to stop on the way. Track fully built with boardwalk.
F.
Great place. The top view is great and if you are lucky you can spot eels there. We were lucky and we spot one :)
K.
Must visit falls if you going to Piha Beach
K.
Nice walk, enjoyed it. 30 mins one way. Suitable even for kids.
K.
Always a great walk!
L.
My son on his way to kitekite Falls with his Auntie and dog before he fell over and hurt his knee.
O.
Nice place for family adventure. In Piha area & had about 30 min bush walk from the car park to reach the fall. Can jump into the pool area. Have to careful because of the slippery rocks.
L.
This is my favourite place on the north island. I recommend to take the walk from the top road. There is a parking bay and you can follow the path and the signs from there, which should take about one hour. Be sure to disinfect your shoes with the tools provided ON THE WAY OUT!
B.
These are really beautiful and well worth the 30 minute easy walk. For the really adventurous you can climb to the very top and some people even swim
T.
Beautiful walk, bring water, some good shoes and if traveling with small children, recommend you bring a carrier.
Lots of beautiful photo opportunities!
L.
Short walk pretty good/easy with the family not. The water fall is a delight at the end great fun for the little ones
P.
Water was chilly to walk into but once in and under this was a beautiful experience being able to swim in behind the waterfall was amazing.
A.
A really great afternoon! A few too many people when we went but it was Anzac Day so everyone had the day off. It's easy for the most part but there are a few treacherous spots esp for little kids and oldies. The falls are great but again, not as great when you're sharing with 30 other people!
a.
Good walk through the small jungle kinda thing. Good views from the top tier but was crowded when we took the trip.
Don't settle for the dip in the pool, but climb to the top.
J.
A Nice place for trekking. Should go to the top and bottom of the waterfalls. It's beautiful.
F.
Lovely on a beautiful sunny early Autumn day in Auckland. Watch the eels in the pool at the bottom of the falls and dip your tured feet in the cool waters. And relax to the sound of the falls
A.
Lovely place for family. The toilets are a smelly place sobe prepared for the long drop. If people actually closed the lid, like the sign says, it wouldnt be so bad. Pack your own lunch as it can get very expensive in this area for basics.
J.
Short 25-30 minute walk, well worth it!
M.
beautifull..peacefull...lots of energy
J.
It was a God amazing creature.
T.
Nice water falls with 1 hour walk. You can jump in for a dip.. water isn't much deep
S.
Nice wee walk (up the side of a mount for a bit). Recommend sneakers but also a super lovely place! Definitely visit if you’re near PIHA. make sure u go down Glensend Rd and not to where google maps takes you (just on the main road).
R.
Well maintained tracks, and nice information signs along the route. Make sure you do the full loop

Mild hike though not for beginners, lots of steps to get to the very top. Great views of the falls

Beautifully walk of 45mim to the falls. You can swim just under the fall. Water is freezing :) . Perfect place to have some picnic !

This is a beautiful place. It is about an hour away from Auckland so you will need to take your car there. But Trippy also takes you there and return for $40.
The place has beautiful beach which is a quite one. It has caves that you can explore yourself. If you stayover at Piha and explore the caves at night then you can see glow worms as well. The kitekite falls is about 30 mins walk away from the town.
Sweet as place!
M.

Search "Kitekite Falls Walk Carpark" that will take you to proper entrance and car part ,and from there 30 min walk to kitekite fall
Enjoy..

Beware that these falls are situated in the middle of a forest where the Kauri trees are dying from a soil disease mainly transmitted by humans on the soles of thier shoes. Please clean you shoes at cleaning stations entering and leaving. Better still do not go into this area.If this disease is not checked there will be no more Kauri trees within TEN years.PLEASE NOTE THIS AREA IS FROM MAY1st 2018 CLOSED . SO PLEASE DO NOT ENTER DUE TO KAURI DIEBACK AND STORM DAMAGE. THANK YOU.
