A really interesting peek into the mining world of the day. These guys know their stuff. It was a bit smaller than expected but that didn't detract from the experience.

A must see when visiting Reefton. The volunteers have vast local knowledge to share and are entertaining story tellers. Our 3 boys where even shown several magic tricks. The replica miner's hut is very authentic.

Locally run by bearded volunteers. This little living museum is a tribute to days gone by in Reefton. These dedicated men have put together a working replica of a little mining hut. They work and play around the hut and are very knowledgeable about the gold mining era. When we were there we we're offered scones made in a cast iron pot over a coal fire.... Beautiful flavour! This is a free museum with a donation box if you choose.

Great locals run this museum, to recount mining in Reefton and local area. With hands on panning available and a wealth of facts about the local mining operations it is a great place to check out. Make sure you drop in a donation on your way out to keep this local knowledge open for everyone that comes through the town.

A little confusing as far as what you can do here. That said it was great to take my boy and show him the coal miners hut and a bit about blacksmithing.

Stopping at this place has as much value as a good tourist office. People have more time for passing tourists. On s'y croit vraiment et on apprend beaucoup de choses sur la région. S'arrêter à cet endroit a autant de valeur qu'un bon office du tourisme.
