Reviews of Pohutu Geyser
H.
Attended indigenous night. Service was great hongi and private welcoming was excellent. Chinese staff members was very helpful. Performance was wonderful food was nice looks like they only have one show per night not like the other Maori villages where multiple shows and warriors finish one group and jump to the other. Interpretation was also well done
C.
Gorgeous sights, Kiwi viewing is a great experience, ablution block neatly maintained, Mareai is a wonderful experience and the Geysers are magnificent. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Will visit again and again. so mucg to see and experience. Awesome attraction for the entire family
m.
This was at Te Puia. We had a young Maori guide who showed us around.
Besides the mud pools and the geyser, there is a kiwi enclosure and we got to see the kiwi feeding on bugs and worms which are put into the enclosure.
There is a cultural show and a school which teaches traditional Maori stone carving, wood carving and weaving.
S.
There's so much to see and do at Te Puia, but the Pohutu Geyser certainly steals the show! The geyser erupts naturally 1 to 3 times every hour and reaches highs of well over 30 m!
When you first arrive, try to join up with one of the guided tours of the grounds. This short, worthwhile tour was led by Carla, a local Maori woman who grew up in the area and gave us some general information and a few hints/tips on how to make the best of our visit.
You can spend hours just wandering leisurely around, see the various steam vents, bubbly mud pools, dormant geysers, a reconstructed Maori village, and even a kiwi bird (which can be seen in a dark enclosure lit only by infra-red light).
P.
Great experience! We're on a tight budget but we're so glad we paid the entrance fee for the Maori concert and the Geyser. The Kiwi's were in hiding😕
A.
A must see in Rotorua! Really impressive sights, just be prepared for the smell!
We got to see the pohutu geyser erupt, it was very cool!
R.
Pohutu geyser is majestic and beautiful. You can observe it's activity almost every hour - about 20 eruptions per day. That beautiful, turquoise pond is a lukewarm Blue Lake and is created from flowing water from geyser eruption. Pohutu environment is very charming and colorful <3.
An eruption is gorgeous - first big mass of steam is throwed out and next a big stream of hot, boiling water with amazing sounds :) During observing the geyser from the Living Maori Village terrace you can feel kind of rain, condensation water from the geyser steam clouds.
Amazing - I would stay there a whole day and watch it ;)
T.
Amazing must do the Maori culture experience great feed guide has awesome knowledge of the area and his/hers heritage great gift shop and awesome wood carvings, best of all get to see kiwi birds ☺️☺️
B.
We were lucky to be on a wonderful tour with Cruise Tours Tauranga, with Susanna Shelton at the wheel. Very knowledgeable lady, who timed everything just perfect. The geysers are absolutely stunning, as is the rest of the area and the history of the village.
J.
Great attraction to learn more about Mãori culture and artistry. Geysers and mud baths. Take the guided walk, excellent information.
L.
Follow Te Puia's the free guided hourly tour, to catch it in time of the spouting.
We were also lucky to see a double rainbow in the background.
C.
Amazing, naturally occurring geyser (some other's near by are set-off artificially). There may be some waiting around, but it's worth it! We saw it on a slightly windy day, which sadly limited the height slightly. But still a great experience!
S.
Fantastic Culteral And Natural Environment
The staff were super friendly, welcoming and informative; I really enjoyed the experience and my day. Thanx to everyone.
S.
This Geyser was shooting water regularly. It made for a great picture! It’s the largest Geyser in the Southern Hemisphere!
E.
I work in the renewable energy sector, but it still fascinates me to see the power of nature showing its force. The Pohutu Geyser is just one, of the many geysers in New Zealand, but I think this is the safest for tourists to see upclose. It was an amazing experience and makes you appreciate nature more.
I.
We went twice to Te Puia, once for the night walk and then during the day. It was our favourite place in Rotorua. The geysers are magnificent, the mud pools and steam pools are incredible. The Maori village and carvings... the whole place is incredible. The staff is so nice, helpful and friendly. A special mention to Patrick, Nelson and the amazing guy at the bar that rescued us when we were lost and late for the night walk and took us in the golf cart.
D.
Interesting place. Cost about 8 nz dollars for a nice walk around the craters
S.
Not many places in the world to experience natural attractions. Enjoyable walk and fascinating views.
C.
Nice, amazing, for me first time, really good, maoori experience
T.
Worth of going there.very attractive place.we took the ride.
R.
Cool experience, smells like fart though
D.
Great experience of this Geyser!
We love to come back 👍
D.
Lovely place for a family reunion. Thank you
R.
Sometimes you have to wait long, until the eruption takes place, but anyhow it is worth
M.
Really cool geyser! Cooks good pudding too!
I.
Worth it for the impressive Geyser but rest of park a bit wanting.
f.
Had an amazing tour guide! Thank you Kahu for the best afternoon! Exceeded mine and Dave's expectations
G.
Great kai lovely atmosphere, service
T.
We went on evening tour from the Maori center. The geyser was well lighted and the guides description of the history and geology were excellent. The timing of the geysers is on natures schedule so some patience is required. Strong sulfer smell makes y aware of the volcanic nature of these geysers.
R.
Super cool geothermal viewing! Amazing cultural show.
K.
A Beautiful park with a very active geyser
S.
Bit expensive overall, but the geyser was worth seeing and there are plenty of information boards around covering Maori culture and history which were very interesting.
K.
For the price of admission, I felt disappointed we could only view the geyser from the lookout. Apparently if you got admission at Te Puia, you get to see the geysers closer.
All in all, a good tour of the village.
s.
A must stop for every traveler coming to visit Auckland, sounds cheesy but really a beautiful place, i learned a bunch and the people could not have been nicer. There's a night viewing area to see the living kiwi but i guess it's either sleeping or on strike with the kiwi union bc we didn't see a single feather, not even a fresh kiwi poop
V.
Spectacular geyser, blows up to 30 meters high. Expensive entry, but worth it. Free for locals if from Rotorua. Also get to see Kiwi birds.
S.
Pricey but we'll laid out. Geysers go off frequently. Even saw a kiwi. My favorite part. Mud pools bubbling away. Cultural Maori presentations.
T.
Maoris living in this village are so kind and friendly to their guest. And the geyser was just awesome, we were lucky to witness the highest it can reach.
T.
Beautiful to see and well worth it. A true treasure.
M.
The geyser is the highlight of Te Puia Park. Amazing and very impressive up close. It is well worth the journey from Auckland to see.
C.
It’s a great experience
T.
We waited just over an hour for it to "blow" but it was worth it! We're told that when there's more water about (i.e. Winter) it can be even more spectacular.
J.
Access Pohutu Geyser via Te Puia. Entry is expensive. They have tours or you can walk around yourself. The Pohutu Geyser area is impressive , especially for first timers. It's a long walk to the Geyser.
S.
Good but expensive for seeing what's free and more impressive in Iceland. The thermal wonderland down the road saw a lot more and much cheaper.
R.
Impressive but (I'm sorry to say) no credit (and no grace from) the staff. Undid a lot of the good work - low key, light touch tourism - elsewhere in NZ
M.
Nice pics from 2011
T.
Wonderful site to learn about the Maori people. Extremely informative, knowledgeable guides, and the geyser was a bonus!
C.
Worth a visit but not blown away by the site although the guide was lovely and very enthusiastic
J.
Never ever saw and experienced something like it before
T.
The maintenance of nature plus culture is just awe inspiring for a destination lover like me.
V.
This place is worth visiting. The nature will truly show you the miracles here.

(Translated) The Whakarewarewa Geothermal Field
The full name is Te Whakarewarewatanga O Te Ope Taua A Wahiao, meaning "The Gathering Place for the Wahiao Warfare". The property is owned by the Tuhourangi\Ngati Wahiao and is situated on the banks of the Puarenga Stream. New Zealand's largest geyser field consists of around 500 vents, most of them alkaline, chlorinated water thermal springs or mud pots, and at least 65 geysers, seven of which are currently active. Most of the currently active geysers at Whakarewarewa lie on a small plain, the Geyser Flat, on a common fault. The Pohuto Geyser is the most famous of the area's geysers and erupts about every hour, throwing water up to 30 m high.

(Translated) The most famous Pohutu Geyser in New Zealand guided by a travel agency this time. I can't imagine that the hot springs sprayed out are as if they are in the mist and haze. It is interesting. You can also see elementary school students sitting in the clouds and nature. Course, New Zealand's education is nature, there are surprises everywhere on the up and down trails, really beautiful, New Zealand is really a must-visit itinerary and country!

(Translated) A must, who is in the northern part! If you are near Rotorua, you should not miss "Te Puia (meaning fortified settlement)" as attractions. One of the biggest geysers in the world. Safe and well-developed paths, also suitable for children. The water fountains can be experienced from many places 1 to 2 times an hour. There is also a completely darkened house where you can see live kiwis. At the end of the trail you can still visit the settlement and a workshop. The craftsmen can be seen from close up at the woodwork. Only drawback. 2 persons cost EUR 112 for entry, for families there are discounts. But worth it.
If you like my comment then please give me a 👍 "Thumbs up" I like it.

(Translated) <FB: Addison Road Trip> Bohutu Geyser, North Island, New Zealand
Pohutu Geyser is the largest geyser in New Zealand. Pohutu means "carp jumping over the dragon gate" or "explosion". It sprays up to twenty times a day, up to a maximum of 30 meters. During the eruption, the water and clouds seemed to be connected together, which was quite spectacular!
