C.This was a really cool way to spend a Sunday afternoon, travelling thru sum of New Zealands country side an was also able to see lake Rotorua from part of the track. It was an all round lovely day 🙂
L.We had a great time trying something a little different. It was a cold rainy winter day, but hot beverages were provided as well as blankets in the rail car so we were cosy. Staff were friendly and professional, the tour informational, and the kids seemed to get a kick out of it.
J.Very cool little self-drive cars that take you along a 10km stretch of rail. Great views and interesting commentary during the ride. You can get off at the other end for a stretch if you wish.
The ride is about 1/2 hour each way and you are taught how to use the hand brake for stopping as well as other safety briefings.
I took my 3 kids along (5, 4 & 4) and they enjoyed the trip. My middle child was getting sleepy thanks to the drone of the engine and clacking of the tracks. So if you have a tired toddler who won't sleep, try this!
Overall, a cool little activity that takes about 1.5hrs. We'll definitley do it again!
l.A lovely experience. Great for families, especially those with younger children. No skill required to drive carts. It's all done for with a commentary.
S.We had a lot of fun as a family doing this. It was recommended to me by my dad when he visited NZ. Kids had fun and the scenery along the way was lovely. You jump off at the end when turning around, stretch your legs and jump back on to go back. It was a little long for the girls, but they didn’t complain too much. I loved that it was a unique experience and learning of the area and history.
J.Renee was a wonderful host and is a credit to the business. If your any bit interested in trains or not this is a worth while experience. For my four year old it was the high light of his trip. A little expensive but this is probably the high running cost and maintenance of such a enterprise. You can get deals on bookme nz for certain times as we did.
R.Had a great time on the rail cruisers with my wife and friends on a recent trip to Rotorua. Definitely something to do if you're in the area - a unique experience to sit in the cruisers as they take you on a leisurely ride through the countryside. Really interesting to wind through the hills and follow the route that trains used to take! You feel completely detached from the rest of the world in your cruiser. Definitely recommend it!
W.This was pretty nice. High tech 4 passenger electric with gas generator cars run independently over miles of narrow gauge tracks though national park with old growth forest with great views and carried birdlife. Get to the end and turn around go half way back and stop for pretty good lunch. I really enjoyed this outing and would recommend it. The owners and developers have done a good job. The stations are nice and clean. Bathroom facilities. Parking.
O.It's a good place to visit, it was hard to hear what was said from the speaker so a better audio system on the carts would be good to have for everyone, especially those who find it harder to hear, the staff here are kind, which is a positive thing

Very friendly welcome, the offer of tea and coffee was a bonus while waiting. The briefing was not drawn out and complicated. Instruction being the driver was good. The journey excellent. Well worth the cost. Fully recommend this activity in Rotorua.
One small suggestion could be the pro vision of headphones to hear the commentary. Clickety click some times drownsout the commentary.

V.Great service, great safety brief, well organized but overpriced for what it is. Gets a bit boring after 40 min too. Just some constructive feedback for you guys, would be good if speakers could be adjusted in away that we can actually hear without the noise of the car going along the tracks.

I did expect to see a little more than we did see as much of the track runs through dense trees and rock walls, but best the end when it opens up and you get s Rotorua lake, it was worth the journey. A little pricey for what it is, but the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Excellent experience.

J.What a great idea to use old railroad track for a scenic tour. We found it very relaxing and fun, and the scenery & wildlife were a treat. The recorded commentary was nice (although we couldn't hear all of it owing to the railway noise). Highly recommended, and well worth the price. The staff person was friendly and welcoming, too.

N.Partner booked this for our little date and it was nice sitting down and listening to the little audio. He was sad that we didn't have to pedal as he was expecting it to be self peddling carts. But I'm greatful it wasn't as I'd be tired within the first 5 minutes haha.
s.Great scenic train ride, fits four adults comfortable. Great being in your own small train. Comentry through speaker system was good , history about the people, the land and when the railway opened. Definitely worth the money. Staff were friendly and professional. They are looking at extending the rail line. I will definitely go back and do it again. Partner and I had a lot of fun.

A.My wife and I really enjoyed the relaxing and scenic ride on the old railway track. It’s a unique experience travelling in the cruisers through bush in some parts and open country close to animals in other parts. Great scenery and friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommended.
W.Enjoyed it a family with the 2 year old who had fun but unless you're fascinated by trains or rail history it's just a bit of a time filler. Some nice sections through the bush and would love to have been able to stop and explore a bit. Amazing log cabin offices which have been beautifully built.
F.On a fairly dull day with a few scattered showers, two of us rolled up to the Mamaku Station .. and what a lovely greeting from Jaimie even tho we were a bit late for the safety briefing. We got into our little cruiser and off we went .. what a delightful way to see the countryside and to hear about how the track was rescued and restored. So on a bright sunny day it would be fantastic, but really the weather wouldn't matter that much as it's such a fun thing to do .. I'd recommend it to one and all.

c.Very cool thing to do. Learning the history of the rail back in its day to the present era and reconstruction of the rail by the rail cruise team makes the journey more educational. Add to that the scenery along the way, makes this trip a must do on your tour of Rotorua.

A.I did this trip as a 'Guinea pig' when it was first up and running. It is a great trip down the cuttings on the old rail track with local animals,in case you haven't seen sheep or cows close up. Ideal for either wet or dry viewing. Take note that the address is wrong and there is no photo of the station. Address is Mauku St Mamaku.

A nice experience. We enjoyed some snacks and the scenery, I saw some beautiful yellow flowers, interesting trees and cows. The most fun thing is driving the little car by yourself. It's better if you go on sunny day, taking snacks with you.
