There is a lovely walking track (or cycling) that circles around through Sulphur Point from the lovely gardens at the top end of Fenton St. They go past the Wildlife Refuge, crossing hot areas with boardwalks. You can circle back to the lovely park and playground on tarmac after visiting the old Bath House.

A great walk through some natural sulphur lakes. Not overly exciting, but worth checking out.. all white, smelly, and steamy.. typically what you’d want to see or expect from some natural geothermals but not overly exciting.

Do park your car near by and you can walk around the lake for a while, nice and pleasant walk.

This place is really alien-looking, exceptional in nature and so well worth a look. Steam comes out all over the place and there are holes with plops and gurgles going on all the time. You have to remain alert around here and stick to the track (you have to look hard to see it sometimes) because on some parts you're actually on the flats themselves. Amazing place and incomparable to anything else i've witnessed so far!

Really great free activity to do if you are a backpacker like me or simply in a budget. It's located really close to town, being the gardens. Easy to walk around since there are tracks and paths, you can even explore outside the path in certain area. The thermal activity is impressive. Good place for nice pictures.

Honestly it might be a little hard for me to give anything a 5 around the lake when the sulphur smell is so strong that you can't stay long, but it is nature. Anyways, this point isn't all too much besides more gravely sand and a few more bubbling crater pools. The most interesting part is the foot sized 'cave' holes that blast out hot hot air and steam. Don't put your hand too close, but just enough to feel it! No benches or anything here, but again, don't think you'd want to be here that long anyway

Disappointing geothermal area down by the events center. Lots of places to park down this far but the area itself is pretty mute compared to what you can see in Kuirau park which is also free. There are some mud pools, boiling water, bubbles coming up out of the bottom of the lake etc but it's a bit muted compared to say Kuirau lake, even the views of the lake are better at the scenic point further down Hatupatu dr. Save your time and go elsewhere instead.

Great place to spent a breezy afternoon, spacious carparks and lots of swans ducks and gulls As the name suggest...there is the smell of sulphur in the air.

Beautiful place. Amazing numbers of birds and other fowls around. So lovely and amazing. A public toilet is provided. Clean and good condition.

Absolutely stunning location to watch the sunrise over the hills on the opposite side of the lake.

Parked in the carpark there, so had access to town with a short walk. Great cycle track around the bay with great sights, then track leads to the Redwood forest with heaps of rides there. Took a great many awesome pics along the way.

Beautiful mostly boarded walk through land with geysers, craters and bush with views of the lake. A short walk to the playground at the Government Gardens too. Enjoyed by us and our children.

Relaxing track to walk morning or evening. Because of the thermal activity it can feel hotter then normal but with a slight lake breeze it can be perfect. Beautiful surroundings capturing views of bird life, small mud pools and other thermal activity.

If you can stand the smell and the insects, then it's a cool place to sit and watch the lake, the people, and the birds. Weather and wind direction play a part here - sometimes it is a perfect location, other times it's hard to enjoy. All that said, come check it out.

Good and free opportunity to see steam coming. More than amble descriptions along short trail. Saw people ignoring signs and walking out to steam holes, don't recommend this as the sign said the rock is thin and the steam will harm you. Easy access as well at the edge of town and lake.

A lot of parking with the view of Sulphur point. Walk track is safe. Short walk, next to it got a Spa n hot spring center. But I don’t think it is a must to visit compare to other beautiful thermal park.

Went during a storm, so the sky was gray, and the water was choppy. Not much to see here, except the black swans, which were really cool.

Awesome place. Love me a bit of volcanic activity. You can use the mud to put on your skin so heat seeking missiles can't find you just like arnie on predator.

. (03/2017) Nicely located point to view small hot pools filled with boiling sulphur water. Beautiful views of the lake. Well maintained walking track with historical information made available along the way. One of the highlights of our Rotorua visit.

Nothing much to see unless you're coming for a quick run. The smell is something to experience though.

It's a very calm place. You can enjoy the nature.

Great place for a quick walk, just sad that there is so much rubbish (beer cans, bottles) in and around the track and bush.

Went to the driving range/ mini put to play mini golf put. had to leave at the second hole as I had left my phone in a store. They said we could carry on when we got back. When we did get back a large group of school holiday programme kids had arrived before us, so the operators offered us the driving range instead which we excepted and thoroughly enjoyed

If you visit Rotorua garden it is a must go place. It is just 10 mins walking distance from the garden. It is absolutely free of cost. Close up look of various volcanic activities

Gorgeous! Please heed the warnings and stay on the track - the area is too fragile and beautiful to ruin for a couple of closer photos. Great informative signs and completely free!

Stinky but serene. Since it's free, you should make the trip if you're in Rotorua. It's probably as good as some of the places where you have to pay, minus the geysers.

Stunning! You can smelling and watching smoggy. Even this place is free entry :) We enjoyed the milky lake.

Exactly as advertised: a point covered in sulphur. Tons of birds but plenty odor as well. We parked at the far end of the lot so didn't see the warning signs until we got back.

Great view of the lake.

Sulphur point is a very beautiful spot to observe Rotorua from including the lakefront and its attractions such as jet boat riding, helicopter tours around various volcanoes and a flight around Rotorua city itself. Plus you have the lakeland queen stationed there where you can go for a crusie and have lunch of dinner which ever suits you lol. Ypu can also see to the far side of the lake on a good day. A nice walk connects all this which follows the lake front and sulphur point to the redwoods and more. I.e MTB tracks, walking tracks and horse riding trails.

The sulphur was strong but I found the place really intriguing and quietly beautiful. Made me hungry for boiled eggs...different strokes I suppose.

Interesting you can get up close to the thermal pools. See the difference with the sulphur suspended in the water here but further out clear
