A fantastic experience for anyone interested in NZ native birds of prey. You learn more about the history of falconry and the important work the Wingspan trust is doing to keep our NZ falcon & other prey birds thriving in our country before getting a chance to see some of the birds up close and watch them showing off their amazing flight skills. And if you're very lucky you might get one perching on your head! I look forward to a return trip 😁

Amazing experience which I thoroughly recommend to every New Zealander! It was extraordinary to see the birds up close and to see them fly. I learned so much and am still buzzing a week later. I am so impressed with the Trust and all the mahi it does. The presentation itself was impressively well organised; very professional yet full of character. The falconers are nearly as interesting as the falcons! I visited during Level 2 restrictions and the Centre's organisation around keeping visitors safe was excellent. I returned home and spent hours on the web learning more about our raptors and look forward to visiting again every time I am near Rotorua.
A.
Incredible experience watching the falcons getting trained. Gorgeous location. Fun experience for adults and kids if you want to do something off the beaten track in Rotorua.
C.
I am so glad i have finally checked this place out, NZ falcons are such amazing birds and deserves so much recognition. The host was also really knowledgable and cheerful, and the place was set up really well. Definitely worth a visit.
C.
A most excellent time was had by all. We chose the family pack $100 for 1 year membership.

It is great to see Wingspan is open again after the Covid-19 Lockdown. Thanks very much for the enthusiastic presentation we watched on Friday 30th June. Our first visit, but we would like to return.. Thanks.

This place is so neat. The staff are awesome and friendly. The show was fantastic. So cool to learn about nz falcons and to see them in action.
R.
Small nonetheless a place of interest for kids and adults alike. This is a conservation place for NZ Falcons. They have an aviary with few Falcons and owls and a museum of Falconery. However the highlight is falcon feeding show at 2:00 pm. Throughly enjoyed the hour and a half show. The best time to go is around 1:30 just before the show as there isn't much else to do here. It's better to keep an eye on the weather as it is best when it's a beautiful sunny day.
L.
This was fantastic, The birds were awesome, we all learnt so much.I would highly recommend this experience for all ages!
L.
A great place not far out of town, lots of information and the staff are friendly. The birds are a great sight - the NZ falcon display is great and worth seeing.
B.
The team do such great work to help educate all those that come and see the birds or prey....one must do when in Rotorua
Z.
Good mix of in depth facts and Kiwi humour and friendliness (from what Ive observed in the 24 hours of this trip so far)
Excellent overall experience, beautiful spot just on the edge of Rotorua
Staff were friendly and gift shop tempting
The aviary is full of good reading
M.
Very Informative and a delight to witness the bird training. A well developed presentation by passionate staff. Good use of audio equipment to counter the wind, which could have lost the message. One of Rotorua's must sees for young & old alike
M.
Awesome experience! The staff is very passionated and you can feel they really care for the birds. Didn't expect to get that close to the birds neither. Highly recommended, thanks again!
J.
Wingspan Rotorua is an amazing please. The Falcons and the barn owl were all awesome. The staff are truly wonderful people. We are very lucky to have people like them in our world protecting and caring for our birds of prey. You all need to go and hear their commentary. Wonderfully put together by knowledgeable staff.
We bought a Ruru nesting box.
We're going again!
L.
If you have the time, please go see this wonderful educational presentation of NZ's birds of prey. We took our year 4-6 students and families, and had a lovely time and oh boy, the flurry of excited chitter-chatter from everyone afterwards just told us we had visited a place worthy of our time 🤩 you'll also be supporting a wonderful cause of raising awareness for these wonderful birds and especially for the karearea bird, that is endangered 😍
T.
Highly recommend booking a spot to visit Wingspan. We learnt so much from their falconry flying show. A newfound appreciation for the Australian Harrier or Swamp-Hawk, Maori name Kahu. A beautiful day with stunning views of Lake Rotorua.
D.
Fantastic experience yesterday. The breeze was a little cold and wondering whether it may be worth having some kind of plastic shield for winter months? Maybe a local company could donate. Other than that we really enjoyed it, thank you.
T.
This interactive and interesting display show was well worth the visit. This is fabulous opportunity to learn about our NZ Birds of Prey and see them up close and personal with their handlers!
A.
Brilliant flying display, dedicated, passionate staff, very informative. A great rehab and breeding program for a precious NZ species.
A.
Amazing experience, couldn’t forget my dslr! Had to get some snaps! Wonderful experience and kind trainers!
T.
I love this place! Every time I visit Rotorua with anyone, I always make sure to take them along.
The keepers are all incredibly friendly as well as knowledgeable, the birds put on a different show every time (cheeky critters!) and you can even have a falcon feed from your hand.
Never gets old, just go, you won't regret it. Be there by 2pm for the flying show!
D.
Wingspan is an absolute delight for anyone who has an interest in animals or conservation. The live demonstration was wonderful - the staff are passionate and knowledgeable and I found myself totally engaged watching these amazing birds do their thing.
Spend an afternoon here, and you'll find yourself pointing out birds of prey everywhere you go in New Zealand. Truly beautiful animals, great people - I loved this place.
D.
Very interesting, even though it was pouring down we still got to see a barn owl and watch and hold a NZ falcon ..great experience
E.
It's not everyday you get to see a rare kiwi icon in full flight chasing down a magpie (remote controlled) and see how graceful and fast these majestic birds are. Wingspan help to raise awareness, rehabilitate and breed some of NZs rare bird species and educate the public about the importance of birds of prey to our ecosystem.
F.
It is a wonderful centre for birds of prey. The visit and talks are in your face with the interaction of these birds, if it is raining they have indoors facility. Will I visit again, certainly in the near future. The backdrop area of the bird display give you a beautiful feeling of protection. Thanks for the correction address. The new Wingspan address is 1334 Paradise Valley Road, Rotorua, we look forward to seeing you again!

I've been to a lot of bird rescues and Wingspan is up there with the very best. Their location is pastoral and beautiful, their falcon show is the best I've ever seen, and their trainers are down-to-earth, extremely friendly, super smart and very dedicated. The birds themselves are charmers and very visible, with opportunities for more up-close encounters. Visiting Wingspan was the absolute highlight of our NZ trip.
S.
Am not sure if it worths the ticket or the one hour show
M.
Incredible experience if you love birds. We both had an amazing time, fantastic presentation and birds. Definitely worth a lot more than 25$, very much worth it.
R.
What a wonderful experience. A must to visit & learn.
G.
Debby and Hyde were excellent hosts. I love being part of Wingspan and supporting them
M.
Wingspan had been at site for some 25 years and is a trust relying on public contributions to keep it afloat. It is well known and sponsored by huge organizations. It is a New Zealand icom, now on a new site near Ngongotaha , at Rotorua where viewing facilities are better than before. You receive a full explanation and opportunities to view the birds before and after amazing free flights which shows the skills of those controlling the flying. Great for young and old with opportunities to have these wild birds settling on arms and seeing these trained but wild birds face on.. you must see when passing thru Rotorua...
J.
Have to book prior to going for 1hr presentations, cost $25 but worth it. They are still in construction but excellent display of flying birds. Will definitely go back.
J.
Wonderful work, great experience for kids. Easy pop in visit.
G.
One of the most informative bird places I have been to. The two birds on show were beautiful and the two presenters were sooooo interesting. A must do if you have an afternoon in Rotorua. Easily found too. Just remember, your entry fee helps their work of helping sick/injured birds continue. A must see.
B.
If you haven't been here, then get there. I have been a few bird of prey shows around the world and this one is right up there.
G.
Don't miss the bird show, it tell you a lot about this birds, you may also have a chance to hand feed these majestic birds. They work hard to protect and rescue the bird of prey in NZ, worth supporting and learning how they are doing it
S.
Another must see /do in Rotorua but only if you like birds .we loved the ability to volunteer to have a hands on bird encounter with one if the birds.I got to have the experience with a beautiful falcon called Shadow ,one Shadow had had enough perching on my gloved left hand, she flew off circled back and landed on my right arm.Thankyou Shadow for making the experience extra special .We definitely return when we return to Rotorua in the future👍👍👍
G.
It's wonderful place. The Falconers are lovely and the birds are absolutely amazing. Really worth going to.
L.
A bird-of-prey rescue center that also has a small museum and daily demonstrations. You have an opportunity during the demonstration to hold a bird while it's fed a little piece of meat. My main draw to the Rotorua region, and it certainly did not disappoint.
J.
Amazing conservation talk and training session with Siren and Shadow, two NZ Falcons. Really amazing work the Wingspan team are doing to help and rehabilitate falcons and owls in the region.
L.
Visited the centre a couple of years ago. One of the best experiances you can visit in the Rotorua area. Highly recommend the 2 pm show. I got to have a Hawk land and feed out of my hand. Best $25 ever spent on a tourist location.
M.
Awesome experience , loved the interaction with birds of prey . Very friendly creatures . Wildlife at it's finest . Thank you , nga mihi

A must visit destination when visiting Rotorua. 2pm flight gets time and an opportunity to hold the beautiful New Zealand Karearea (falcon)
S.
This place is legend all about the protection of Karearea NZ Falcon you are included in on the action when you visit and the birds in the enclosures have their prey instincts. The art is a must view.
T.
Loved it. We came very close to a few amazing birds and the place is doing amazing educational and conservation work
D.
A really good concept, my daughters really enjoyed learning about our birds of prey but it seems expensive for what it is. Also it has moved.
A.
Fantastic display and commentary. Would thoroughly recommend this as a must visit when in Rotorua.

Just a warm up visit today, no live show because they are moving near the agrodome
