Reviews of Taranaki Pioneer Village
L.
Great little village showing a slice of New Zealand life as it was from 1880s to 1950s. Stratford Hospital exhibit was terrific. Excellent recreations of homes and shops. Well worth a visit to relive our history that we should never forget.
D.
Had such a great day here with the family. We arrived at 1, just missing the 1pm train ride, but it took a good 2 hours to go around the village looking at everything, and then we took the 3pm ride. The train ride was great - our small boys loved it !
There is plenty to do here - lots of heritage buildings and great detail about their histories. When we visited we were the only people in the entire park, so it was quite magical.
I recommend that you allow at least 2-3 hours to check out everything in the village. Cost is very reasonable - I think we paid about $24 for two adults and two kids, including a train ride (two laps of the entire village). They have eftpos and a cafe, so no need to bring cash or food.
J.
Step back in time ...spent about an hour and a half looking round and going on the train ride...totally enjoyed it ....Is it something I would do again ...No ...But it is a must go see at least once ...
V.

Step back in time and stroll around this pioneer village to see how the early settlers lived and worked during 1850-1950’s
Allow a good 2 hours so you can take a train ride for two circuits around village.Feed the rooster and hens that follow you around or take a picnic lunch to have by the lake.
All buildings have been relocated including a hospital and you can step inside and check out the memorabilia.
All this is setup and looked after by volunteers who are very informative.
From school houses to train stations and jails , there is something for everyone.
A must see into Taranaki early history.

Great community village, so much to see. We visited for the teddy bears picnic. Only mention: No MC to introduce events throughout the day, we arrived about 10.30am and at 12pm no announcements. Many people seemed a bit stumped at the lack of direction/vibe.

Fantastic experience for young and old. I love the event days, eg military days, when they have old vehicles, period costumes, blacksmith demonstrations, pipe band, and sometimes even flyovers. Really neat place for photography too. Don't forget to take the kids on the train and grab some fab food and delicious coffee at the Shakee Pear cafe next door. Lots of gluten free options.

(Translated) The place is permeated with the spirit of antiquity. It is interesting to look at the life of past centuries. Clean, neat. We walked with pleasure, went into houses, a library, a school, a church. And the police station and prison cells are goosebumps!
Many thanks to the organizers of the museum and people who maintain order.
