Lovely walk about! Mum and I headed to the bird gardens on Sunday, it was a nice quiet day. The ducks and chickens roaming were all very brave and super interested in having the bird feed! The cockatoo can say "ello" if you talk to it long enough. The Cafe is small but the iced chocolate was tasty. I had the waffles with chocolate sauce and ice cream. Om nom nom

Great 1-2 hour diversion with kids. Shady paths are nice on a hot sunny day. The birds certainly enjoy your company when you have a bag of bird food with you.

Great place to visit. Nice and cool in the summer, and lovely place to walk and sit in the shade. Feeding the birds is fun too!

Such a amazing place to go as a family or for some RnR, huge grounds and friendly staff, yummy cheap food too. Highly recommend and well worth the drive. Bring a picnic make a day of it

Beautiful little treasure with amazing collection of birds and the landscaping is just divine. Must visit if you have time ! Kids will enjoy feeding the birds and there are some great instagramable spots to cherish !

Lovely gardens. Lunch was delicious pepper steak pie, chicken panini, Devonshire tea. Nice to see a variety of birds, would have been even better if all the averies had birds.

The Katikati Bird Gardens was a nice experience on a sunny day! The garden is beautifully maintained with plenty of trees, ponds and flowers. It was lovely to see the peacocks, ducks, parakeets and other birds.

We really enjoyed our visit here. Friendly birds and also beautiful gardens - ponds and the natural wetlands. Some amazing trees too!

Lots of chicken and ducks. Great place for leisure with family. One suggestion to the owner: purify the water of the lake to make the garden will be even more beautiful.

Great place to visit for all ages. Fun playground and nice decking areas to relax after a stroll through the gardens.

Great way to get your bird fix. Acres of lovely gardens and ponds populated with friendly birds who you get to feed. Mostly chickens ducks and geese with their babies all around, but also doves, swan, a white peacock and some other unusual species. There are some spacious aviaries for pretty parrots, pheasants and show-breed chickens. There is also a cafe, shop, and a "wedding garden". I understand there is a small cottage for overnight guests.

Absolutely enjoyed the bird gardens. The gardens were beautiful and loved the birds. Especially when they landed on us to feed. Will definitely be back!

I had a wonderful time wandering around this garden. It took me quite a while to get the white cockatoo to say “hello” to me. And the rainbow lorikeets are so cute, they are curious and attention seeking, one asked for tickles and others just dance around. :3 Beautiful birds in beautiful garden. Didn’t see much wild birds only heard them lots. Tips buy a bit more bird food... I wish all the being in garden very happy lives.

Lovely place. Has a playground for kids. Food available. Nice outdoor area to eat. Lots of beautiful trees, flowers and some artwork along with the range of birds available to feed.

It's baby animal time of year. Lot's of lovely fluffy chicks to coo over. Coffee great too. The girl in the shop works very hard running it all on her own!! Highly recommended.

Showing its age, lots of free range birds that will hunt you down for bird food. Great to buy a bag of bird food for the children, then get the camera out

A lovely garden drenched in toe-jam that's been excreted by a motley crew of domesticated feathered friends. Wipe your shoes well before you climb back in your car. Not a safe place for toddlers and young kids who can't swim. Dirty ponds everywhere--so be vigilant with children. You are welcome to feed the chickens, ducks and geese and they will follow you begging for more.

Yeah awesome time! Beware when you walk around with bird food out. The birds are always watching!

Great experience, but there was large swan that fully extended itself after rising from the deep, let out a mighty screech, then proceeded to brutally attack another bird. We made a lucky escape, but another young family wasn't as swift. Legend says the swan still roams the shallow marsh to this day.

Sweet place, great waffles, kids love it, only downside is manager always seems very unfriendly, which is a shame. Luckily birds make up for it.

Awesome place to spend some time feeding the birds, wandering around the gardens and having a picnic. Bird feed only $1 a bag - get plenty!

Be prepared for extremely friendly birds looking for food! They will come from all corners of the garden to greet you. Beautiful if it is a sunny day

We love this place, kids have a best kind of fun here! We try to make it out every school holidays, I have enjoyed seeing it transform in the last few years.

Good place to take in the beauty of NZs Flora and fauna with a bunch of friendly birds. Buy a few bags of bird food and have fun.

Beautiful gardens with great birds to see , ducks and geese to feed and Australian parrots to see too. Nice cafe for afterwards and beautiful park and nice tracks to walk on. Very nice owners of the park. I'm lucky to be a local to be able to see this park more often.

Lovely place, peacefull, very friendly birds. A Paradise between Tauranga and Waihi. I strongly recommend a visit!

Nice place - mostly chickens - lovely gardens and some more exotic birds.

Went here in 1984 and looks like nothing has changed. Very disappointed. No new features , bathroom in need of upgrade.

Thousands of cicadas made it very noisy, otherwise a very pleasant setting to see all the bird varieties

If you enjoy walking through a garden sanctuary, then this is the place for you! Well worth the $11.00 admission. The birdlife is made up of different Duck, Geese and Chickens and native waterway birds. There is a cafe and gift shop attached too. This casual walk around took 1 and a bit hours, but can be shorten if you stay to the main path (there is a grass off the beaten track route). Highly recommend that you take a picnic and enjoy one of the many secluded spots as long as you are willing to share with the locals (birds..).

A nice little attraction with a small cafe. Not too many wild birds about and non that were labeled in the brochure. Freindly wildlife about and the occasional information sign for those in averies.

A tranquil place to wander the many paths through lovely gardens while feeding the birds grain which can be purchased from the shop.

Kids had a ball. Really fun Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday.

Lovely friendly staff at the tea rooms on site. Great fun watching the peacock challenge his own image in the glass door to a dual! Fantastic venue for families with bantums and their chick's on the large grassed area in front of the tearoom. No time for the rest of the gardens today but we will definitely be returning for that!!

Lovely quiet spot to have a wander on the way up or down The Coromandel. You can buy bird food to feed the animals and take in the views. There's a small cafe and gift shop, toilet and playground too.

Absolutely stunning walks. many different types of birds that don't mind interacting with humans (my favorite are the doves and peacocks) :) Great place to bring kids. The food is amazing although the food arrival takes a while. The smell is amazing and the staff are extremely kind. You also get a bag of seeds or corn to feed the birds. I can't remember the price but I think it's somewhere from $1.00 - $2.50. peaceful and quiet for a good few hours.

So beautiful in the Spring. Loads of baby birds around, swans, ducks, phesants, bantams, parrots. The kids loved it. Only $1 a bag for good quality bird food and a nice playground for the kids. Also dotted with picnic tables.

A lovely place to visit especially at this time of year. The chicks and ducklings were so cute!

This is a relaxing and fun stop for those who enjoy gardens and birds. I had so much fun feeding the various birds here. I came 3 years ago and knew I wanted to visit again. The gardens themselves are beautiful and when you add in flocks of geese, swans, ducks, peacocks and exotics then it is a real treat. The cafe and gift shop add just an extra treat to the experience.

I can remember this place being a lot bigger but then again I was a lot smaller , I don't know much about birds but ducks , chickens and pigeons don't really warrant the entry price . Coffee was good though.

If you aren't afraid of friendly birds then you will enjoy your visit here. Entry was fairly cheap, gardens were pretty, domestic type birds very plentiful. Cafe on site too.

These gardens are really beautiful and well worth a visit. There are numerous wild, free birds, some of them quite tame and able to interact while children throw down special food purchased from the Cafe. There are sparrows, various types of chooks (some with their chickens), several types of ducks and various other water birds.There are also several very unusual birds that arent commonly seen elsewhere. They seemed happy and healthy and were an absolute delight to be around. My experience of being there and being part of it with my grandchildren was relaxing, interesting and good fun. THEN SOMETHING AWFUL HAPPENED; I came across a number of aviaries full of smaller birds. There were beautiful little coloured creatures of many exotic types, but it was SAD to see that these unfortunate creatures were living in abysmally boring aviaries where little or no attempt had been made to put fresh greenery or interesting food or toys inside their enclosures. Poor little imprisoned birds! Bad enough that they will never enjoy free flight (weep for them!), but these ones are to be pitied. The aviaries appeared clean and none of the birds were hungry, but that is about all that can be said on the positive side. After visiting these otherwise idyllic gardens, the plight of the captive birds affected me for days afterwards. Captive birds need their lives to be enhanced by humans as much as possible, but in this case they are simply "ON DISPLAY" with no thought at all given to their emotional well being. Its unenlightened of us Kiwis to still allow people to have birds living permanently in cages, but in this case it was deeply shocking to see such extreme deprivation of enrichment rights. These particular birds only had protection from cats, a roof and food; no solace or compensation whatsoever for their pitiable service of acting as "Experiences" for visitors. The exotic birds (in aviaries) at Katikati Bird Gardens are PRISONERS and MANY OF THEM ARE DEPRESSED. If I still feel like this after my next visit, it will be a case of having to take further action.

Couldn’t go to see birds. But the small cafe got the best cake i’ve ever tried in NZ. They are selling the yummy toasts too 😍

Great place to bring the kids for an outing. The cafe also has a great range of excellent food that was served promptly and all at a very reasonable price. Very pleased with our morning here.

Fun place with good gardens. Good gift shop and cafe. Bird species is limited to poultry and wild rescues with a few exotics.

Really good fun. But their male alexanderine needs to be taken to the vet his beak is over grown and needs trimming it's quite sad but overall this place is really good to bring your kids the pigeons and other poultry are very friendly

Well worth a visit. Birds of many varieties to feed and interact with. Beautiful grounds and walkways. Lovely little playground and cafe!

A fun place to visit. Our family visited years ago, and as adults, wanted to relive the experience. The wandering birds made each garden area a delight. The paths and gardens were well maintained, and the cafe food well priced and fresh.

The place itself was stunning and sooo tranquil! The toilets were clean. What a beautiful place to unwind. The shop had some lovely gifts in it. I saw one tui, and one wood-pigeon (which was in captivity unfortunately). Would be great to see more of these beautiful creatures. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, especially with all the beautiful baby birds about :-)

Awesome lovely place lots of birds and plants walkways were.great. enjoyable day jist wondering around been here twice now and we enjoyed it both times. The children enjoyed the open space and feeding the birds.

We recently visited the gardens with a large Retirement Village group. We had a fantastic time and Scott was a great host. Scott took some of our lesser mobile Residents around the gardens on a golf cart, so that they also got to enjoy this spectacular site. We all enjoyed the lunch too! Highly recommended.

Excellent couple of hours, beautifully maintained grounds without being too manicured, plenty of ducks and chickens if you have kids, time spent on the wetlands path well worth it. Nice little cafe too. Owner knows his stuff.😃

Beautiful garden and we loved the birds and hens that followed us around as we admired the plants and shrubs. Well worth visit and lots to see so allow time to spend enjoying it all.

I do love taking my kiddies here there's lots of birds and water. Water is not fenced so watch ur little ones carefully. There's a park to play and a cafe there, this place is a bit over priced for what it is. You can purchase bird food for $1.00 which is fun.

The gardens and birds were quite nice. Mostly chooks and ducks... However, the service left a bit of a bad taste in our mouths. We were polite and respectful at all times, but were shocked that they flat out refuse to accept ANY card transactions from international cards/tourists. They had a bit of a poor attitude and then starting complaining about bank fees and Aussies. Obviously don’t like the extra business that tourists bring in. Eventually suggested a manual PayPal transaction which was a lot more mucking around, but we eventually got there. Have not had a single issue anywhere else across dozens and dozens of payments in NZ, and no one has had any issues whatsoever. Hope the service can improve.

Really relaxing place to walk around on a sunny day. It does need some maintenance and the ponds are quite murky but it's still worth it for the price $10 per adult.

Excellent walk around the gardens. After stopping to see & feed many birds and their chicks it took us a couple of hours - then we had a nice lunch at their cafe.

Doves, bantams, geese and ducks greet you once you walk down the entrance steps onto the front lawn, especially if you've just bought a $1 bird food bag! In fact they will fly onto your arm or back. Following the path past the large pond, theres afew aviaries - one with cockatiels, one with lorikeets and a couple of others with chickens. There's also a couple of cockatoos, king parrots and other parakeets and 2 peacocks. A kids playground for toddlers and cafe onsite. Kids had a ball there, running around and feeding the birds.

Ana amzing place to get up close and personal witht the birds. You can buy a bag of bird food for a $1 and the birds will follow you around the whole garden. Its a peacful place...don't miss out on this one.

Great place for the grandkids birthday, staff are accommodating, we were able to take our own snacks and cold drinks, birthday cake etc, then take the kids on a good walk/run around the park to feed the bird life, they loved it!

A great place to check out all types of birds. Being followed by baby chickens, ducks etc was a highlight.... our 6yr loves exploring nature and really enjoyed it

Visited about 5 times in the last 15 years. Delightful place, great for children and adults alike.

Pretty place however limited information regarding the bird species and tress, still a nice attraction to see and you can interact with the birds by feeding them.

The birds were the stars, very happy to see you just remember to feed them. We had a great time
