Facilities 5 clean, nice shop Services 5 we did the family package for $159, which included the Discovery experience and tour. First rate interactive exhibits. Guide was knowledgeable on the mining process and tour was put together well. Price and value 5 great value. Spent an hour in the Discovery experience and 2 hours on the tour. Summary 5 awesome for kids and adults and the best attraction in Waihi.

We had the most amazing experience with our guide on the mine tour and wonderful ladies at the information centre today. Incredibly knowledgeable on their subjects and very good with customers. Highly recommend to any ages and even people who have been before as alot has changed in the last 20 years 👌 👍

We have visited this place many times and there is a terrific amount of information on the history of the town. You can also hire bikes to ride the rail trail from here and the staff are awesome, friendly and very helpful

Waihi gold mine tours. Get inside the fence, where you'll get up-close and personal to huge trucks, diggers and other massive machines in a modern-day working gold mine.

A fun and informative stop in Waihi, full of local history and all the NZ-themed trinkets you could hope for. Lots of resources for local sights and experiences. Check out the large relief wall map for a bird’s eye view of the entire region. Located on the edge of Waihi’s main strip in town, just across from the historic mining area and walking track. Worth the stop.

This place was far more in depth and detailed as I thought it would be. The staff here are great and you could happily spend an hour or two here learning about the history of gold mining in Waihi.

The open hole mine area is something to see. It's size is so big. The Discovery Centre is very good and with a view of the old pump house across the road

We stopped over in town because we wanted to break up the drive. To our surprise, it was a gold mining town. If you are passing through, don't miss the tour or at least take a look at the old mine close to town centre - it's quite impressive!

This is place of history of gold mine in New Zealand. Very nice track to view the sites of the gold mines. They got hips of car parking. But it is not suitable for wheelchair user.

Just went to the display down from the old pump house building. Was a great display on the history and the process of mining gold. Was interactive so brilliant for the kids too.

Well organised. Did the goldmine experience in the downstairs of the shop. Well worth the visit, not a vastly huge place that takes hours but big enough to entertain all ages but is especially hands on for kiddies. Also got a combo ticket for the boys to do cycling and train ride with the experience. They luvved it immensely. Very helpful ladies at the counter and the chap with the cycles was excellent. Picked and set up the right bikes for the guys. Each bike had a bag and water bottle holder and the helmets were good ones with adjustments to fit properly.

You can watch the gold mine without the tour, if you are just interested in viewing. Tours give you detailed info about the history of the mines.

The best thing to do in Waihi is go across the road to the relocated battery tower and walk around the rim of the mine behind it - free. The discovery centre is a souvenir shop with tedious audiovisual displays reenacted by the local drama club. Yawn.

Pleasantly surprised. Been coming to Waihi for 10+ years now, been all around for a walk to the pump house and all but I wish I had done the Discovery Centre tour ages ago... I loved reading up the short stories and history behind this place. The theatre is a nice touch, the high standard of presentation makes this worthwhile. We came because of the ANZAC day specials, I think the price point is what may be putting off a lot of people.

This place was busy and not long off closing and yet they kindly accommodated us and the dog. As a very cute extra they provided quality dog treats in the form of real sausage, warm at that! How can one not appreciate their ingenuity. So A++ for service and good wine advice. But the food? YUM. Had the pulled beef quesadillas. My daughter had the French toast, not a favorite of mine but yes I liked it. Very well done. Inspired me to try making it again. So all in all we will most definitely be back and would unhesitatingly recommend it to all who want good food in a great outdoor, indoor setting with friendly service. Thanks guys
