Cable Car Museum at Wellington
Visited on 31/1/2019
After getting off the real cable car at the peak of Kelbourne, we visit the Cable Car Museum to bring to the past to look at how it started.
Besides photographs and documents, there is a model of the cable car complete with a conductor and a passenger.
The first cable car run on 22 February 1902. How amazing the service is still in operation.

A modest little museum that is great to kill some time while waiting at the top of the hill for the cable car. Downstairs is a working model of the old cable wheels. Nice little gift store.

Top of the Cable Car ride.
If has a couple of restored original cars plus a lot of historical information & photos.
Down stairs has the original cable winding machinery restored to checkout.

Nice and different experience.
Vintage designed cable car which will take you to the top of the hill (Kelburn). Rises 120m hight and 612 m length. In the top you will find a beautiful view of Wellington as well as a cable car museum.
Ticket price is $5 one way and $9 return. The cable car museum admission is free. There is also a cafe and a perfume company on the top of the hill.
Toilets on the top are clean and well serviced.
I bought a one way ticket and walked down the hill trough the botanical garden which was really relaxing.

Cool little museum and it’s free! A couple of beautifully restored Cable Cars, a moving exhibit showing you the old winding room and loads of photos and history. Worth a visit, will take about half an hour

Great experience, good to see that history is being preserved.

Such a good experience in low budget. Good lookout points, gardens and some shops at the top. There's also a free shuttle to Zealandia (zoo) which is a good experience too. There's a botanical garden, planetarium and some walking trails. Unfortunately it was raining and we couldn't do much. It will be a nice experience for everyone.

A pretty cool place to learn about the history of cable cars in Wellington. Entry is free so can't complain too much about it!
