Reviews of Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne

There's quite a lot to see here, even if it is just taking the time to listen and be quiet while waiting for the birds to come to you. Really calm and peaceful and on a nice day there is a lot of green and blue to be seen. I really enjoyed my visit and would say this is a must-do for any nature lover in Wellington.

I went here with my wife to Zelandia and we had a great time. The staff were really nice and helped us out with what to see and do. There are beautiful walks and lots of nature to take in along the way. We loved the walks and it was an amazing few hours spent enjoying nature.

What an amazing place this is!
Appreciate the effort the volunteers and conservationists put into maintaining this one. Zealandia has tracks that suits everyone’s fitness level. If you are visiting with kids, I do recommend sticking to the easy tracks - the hard tracks can get muddy and are steep.
Was a great experience to watch kākā, saddleback, stitch bird, kererū and shags in their natural habitat. If you are planning to hike towards the upper dam / wind turbine, do keep an eye out for big as tuataras.
And hey, do visit their cafe before the journey :)

What a delight. We got the guided tour and spent nearly 3 hours out in the bush with Don. He was amazingly knowledgeable about birds and the history of the reserve.
We were able to get up close to numerous birds. It was the highlight of the weekend in Welly

Being school holidays we got the last carpark near the entrance but there were more down the street. Social distance queue to enter. Check your bag for pests, sanitize hands and only one bubble through the security door at one time. Lovely to be out in the fresh air on a cool overcast day. Paths are good but some puddles and mud due to recent rain. Lots of signs. Love goes to the family of Shirley for the bench seat in a sheltered glade to rest on. Interesting shop goods but above my price range. I will be taking a picnic next time - $11 for a sausage roll in the cafe.

The success of Zealandia makes it a phenomenal place to visit. You are tripping over the birds before you even enter it. It is a credit to what people can do when they try and to the volunteers who care for the place. An absolute must visit for anyone in New Zealand. Thanks very much.

Fantastic day out. Very helpful and informative staff. Well formed tracks and a few feeding stations. Bags of bird life.

Awesome place, a national treasure. You don't need to go far into the Sanctuary to see our precious native birds.

One of my favorite places in Wellington.
I'm a photographer, and Zealandia has so many photo opportunities for native bird photographers.
I try and visit every few months on a sunny day to get some close up shots of tuis, kakas and wood pigeons.
Great spot to bring friends and family for a long wander around the woods.
Comfortable shoes are a must.
Highly recommended.

Really cool place to visit with family. Very relaxing walking the trails and listening to the native birds. Free shuttle from the cable car is convenient. Seeing so many Tuatara along side of the track was a first. Staff were happy and helpful
