Wanganui has so many little gems of a place to visit. This glass works is one of them. They have a balcony viewing platform that you can sit and watch the artist at work. Loved the amazing glass art on display. You can even take lessons here!

New Zealand Glassworks is well worth a visit when in Whanganui. The gallery features beautiful glass sculptures for sale and overlooks an impressive kiln. The hands-on workshops look like lots of fun and book out well in advance. Friendly and helpful staff.

I had never been to a glass shop. The work they do is astounding. Such beautiful shapes and colours. Introductory workshops are run every month where, for $270, participants get to learn the basics about glass work and make some very cool stuff. Bookings are essential.

Really interesting & informative place.
Watch live glass working & great shop with products for sale ranging from a few $ to $$$ top end sculptural pieces.
Regret it took us so long to visit but will definately be back as each artist using the furnaces & casting area is different & keen to see glass blowing.
Its possible to book a class and create glass art yourself - how cool is that!

I'm visiting as it is Anniversary weekend the Glass Blowing was amazing although it was a very warm day and inside was much warmer to watch a person perform his art and there is pieces of works for sale from various artists, make a point of visiting.

I have a particular soft spot for glass art. The gallery here is filled with many different styles of art, from the abstract to the more traditional, from vases to sculpture to paperweights. The variety means there is sure to be something that catches your eye, whether it be the shape, style, technique, or composition. Well worth checking out if you're in town.

Always worth a look. The kiln isn't always in operation but treat it as a bonus if it is. Some stunning pieces which show the art and skill of the glass artists.
