Reviews of Kauakarangi Bay
L. G.Really fun! Great swimming, for a work out, against the current from the river whilst the tides were going back out. You do have to be careful with people who aren't strong swimmers during the tides. A child could easily be taken out to sea.
Even though this is high tourist season, it really wasn't that packed, to our surprise. We are locals and have seen the place swarming with people. Could be because it was early in the week? I don't know why it wasn't busier, but that made us happy.
I highly recommend this as a place to bring your kids to "swim" across to the little island in the pics. I say swim in quotes because you can walk over to it. Set up a big umbrella, enjoy a picnic lunch and go for a swim!
We are so lucky here in NZ with the shear beauty and often empty beaches. I've been all over the world to many beaches and I can tell you, NZ's are at the top of my list!
