Reviews of Koutu Boulders Car Park
Z.
Check the tide as its not accessible at low tide. Walk towards the beach from the car park, and turn right. The boulders are further up this beach. Really interesting walk along the beach to see these round balls of rock, some starting to crack and break open.
C.
If you are near it's worth a look.
At the carpark walk towards the water then turn right. You'll see footprints from other visitors and also where the grass has been trampled down.
There is a tall tree by the beach and that's where the boulders are.
We got there around high tide so walked along the grass bank. But you need to be careful as some of the bank has given away and hard to see holes as the grass is long. Beach has some rocks so ideal to wear something on your feet.

Good to see at low tide. Don't follow Google maps. Key word is Carpark!
N.
Poorly sign-posted and only mildly interesting. We got lost twice trying to find the carpark. The boulders are not as impressive as the more famous Moeraki boulders in the South Island. But still worth the detour and stretching the legs for the 10 minute walk.
D.
Interesting short beach walk at low tide
I.
Nice little walk to the boulders. Don’t stop at the first one though as the larger ones are just around the corner 😀

Ok I went.... No information at the site a quick Google search provides some insights.. Make sure you check the tides before going or you won't be able to firstly get to them or see much. Some guy drove his fancy land Rover on the beach and got it axle deep stuck - dont be like him leave you car in the car park....
M.
The view here far outweighs the bolders. This is a very special place. If you do want to see the borders make sure you go at low tide!
T.
Go when the tide is out. A little muddy so be prepared to wash your feet or shoes. Boulders were small and few and far between. Ample turning around area.
