Reviews of The Quarry Arts Centre
C.
This place is definitely worth a visit if you like art.
It is a community of live working artists, you can meet them, discuss their works.
Its brilliant
M.
So interesting, lots of little art shops here with a truckload of diversity, potters ,painters, jewellers in this amazing grotto. Wander around to the waterfall whilst taking in the craftsmanship along the journey. I love it here, there is a sense of tranquillity and happening. This is a must.
k.
Lovely place to visit, some great art. And the artists are very friendly. Great Cafe too for a nice coffee
F.
A special artist village. A lot of enthusiastic people, the one more neat than the other. In the shop are nice things to buy, but bring a full wallet.

The quarry arts center is a place everyone should visit. It's the little peice of magic at the heart of whangarei.
E.
A very wet night to view some amazing lights. Well worth the visit.hope to do it again another year

Had a lovely afternoon here with my granddaughter. I must admit it didn't have much going on the day we went but probably cause we went in the afternoon. We had a ball talking to Jackie Strickland from Mosaic Trader NZ bunker 3. She sure had some really beautiful work and I will look in the future to do one of her classes. We also enjoyed taking lots of pics of the lovely sculptures around the place.

Delightful little place. Takes you back in time when life was simple. Nice spot to walk the dogs too. Will be back when next in Whangerei

kids love the after school art classes.

Good selection of glazes...always seem to have to wait an age to get served though. Can be a bit frustrating when you don't have much time (ie. Husband waiting in the car)
M.
An interesting place to visit full of creative and imaginative people. It looks a little different now to when I worked there in 1980. Glad to see it is growing and changing and improving. A must visit .
J.
I love this place I have been going there since it's inception. The shop is a great place to buy unique gifts.
I.
Well worth an explore. Don't be afraid to say hi to the resident artists. Also they run courses so look up thier website
P.
Enjoyed exploring. My husband use to work here which made it a lot easier to visit.

If you are artsy or crafty this place will amaze you. It's nothing like I imagined. It's a ramshackle group of rambling buildings each housing workshop facilities or artisan craftshop. Sally at the front desk is really helpful friendly and knowledgeable. There is a cafe and 2 art shops.
I signed up for the beginners wheel workshop with Julie Cromwell who is an awesome teacher. $95 gets you 2 X 3 hour sessions in the workshop and 2 pieces included for firing. Clay is extra but there is a fully stocked clay store and prices are on a par with pottery retailers online (less if you consider postage!).
There are toilets, hot drink making facilities in the clay studio and limited parking.
Such a great buzz about this place. If you get bitten by the bug check out the pay and play Tuesdays- all day on the wheel for $5! How's that for value for money.
E.
Artistic haven and creative mecca a minute's walk from the city centre, but surrounded in native bush. Peaceful, tranquil, glorious coffee and a waterfall to boot. Stunning artworks and creations for sale. Don't miss it!
A.
Friendly and chatty lady in Cafe. But did not have time to explore all the Centre attractions. Dated cafe would not compare to other cafes in area.
T.
Very impressed with the centre. I bought a rare scrimshaw(fossilized walrus tooth). Others available. My wife bought a stunning necklace in the same shop. We chatted with the artist and wandered among the other rustic studios at will. Unique location, great use of a disused site, close to town. Offers a basic café and summer school art classes for those willing to open their creative side. One of the highlights in our 10 week tour of NZ.
L.
Fantastic artwork on display from local artists. Friendly, informative people there. Made the experience, a pleasure 👍😊
k.
Only the shop was open but loved the diverse range of quality handcrafted NZ goods at reasonable prices. Can walk from here to the quarry gardens too.
S.
Love this place. A magical warren of workshops and gardens and home to some of the most amazing artistic talents in the area. A wonderful place to wander around and discover.
